Journey Towards Greatness Chapter 1018

Julian walked into the gym and decided to look around, though a fighting gym, this also seems to be some kind of dojo, there were photos of many students who won martial arts competition, this dojo seems to be very good at training their students.
Many of them won massive tournaments around the world, as he was looking around he noticed the old man walk towards him, he turned around and noticed Gurkinn looking at him with a smile.
Gurkinn "You seem to be interested in martial arts, do you want to learn it?"
The old man asked.
Julian "No need, I know little martial arts, enough for me to defend myself"
Julian answered.
Gurkinn "I see"
Gurkinn said and stroked his massive long eyebrows, Julian didn't bother noticing them before but now Gurkinn started to stroke it, it stuck out like a sore thumb, his eyebrows were extremely long, it looked like a mustache but they are growing from above his eyes, he also has a patch of hair in the middle of his head like a tomahawk.
Julian 'What a weird style'
Julian thought as he looked at the old man.
Gurkinn "You must be Julian right?"
He suddenly asked. Julian was surprised by this, he didn't expect the old man to recognize him, Julian has not been keeping the same appearance, he changed his clothing style, he changed his hairstyle frequently as well.
So people couldn't really recognize him that often.
Julian "How did you find out?"
He asked and wanted to know how Gurkinn found out his identity.
Gurkinn "Well I just speculated, fierce red eyes, I could only think of few trainers with such trait"
He said.
Julian 'I see, but I can't be bothered anymore, I don't want to walk around wearing shades everywhere"

Julian thought and just nodded his head.
Julian "So when will the gym leader be arriving?"
He asked.
Gurkinn "Well, she will be here in an hour"
He answered.
Julian "I can wait"
Julian said.
Gurkinn "Actually, I wanted to ask for a request"
Gurkinn said.
Julian "Hm? What is it?"
Julian asked.
Gurkinn "When you face off against my granddaughter, I want you to completely crush her in battle"
Gurkinn said. Hearing him Julian was surprised, he didn't know why a grandfather would want to make his granddaughter lose so badly.
Julian "Why?"
Gurkinn "Well, my granddaughter has gotten a little too confident, she has not lost a gym battle ever since she took over as th0e gym leader so she has gotten too overconfident, she is even skipping training, I think she needs a little reality check"
He said.
Julian "Well, I do intend to win"
Julian answered.
Gurkinn "I hope you don't go easy on her at all, push her to absolute limit"
Gurkinn said.
Julian "I will see, it depends on her own skills, if she is really good, she will be able to battle a little longer, if not, she will fall"
Julian answered.
Gurkinn just looked at Julian and nodded. He didn't bother staying around and went back to training his martial art students, Julian headed towards the battlefield and started to examine it, he wanted to see if there is anything different about this battlefield.
After looking around, he didn't find anything special, well it is rare to see a themed battlefield inside a gym, only a few gyms have the permission to apply one to their gym as some of them can be considered 'not safe'.
After waiting for a while inside the gym, the gym leader finally showed her face, she rushed into the battlefield with her rollerblades on, she looked around excitedly and noticed her challenger sitting there waiting for her.

Korrina looked excited to battle, but Julian could tell that Korrina is not here to do her job as a gym leader, she is actually here to have fun through a pokemon battle.
Korrina "Are you the challenger?"
She asked excitedly.
Julian just nodded and walked towards the challenger side of the battlefield, Korrina also didn't waste his time and rushed towards her side using her rollerblades.
Before they could start the battle, Korrina's grandfather himself entered the battlefield.
Korrina "Grandpa, what are you doing here?"
She asked.
Gurkinn "I am here to be the referee of this battle"
He answered. Korrina is surprised, her grandpa didn't referee any matches after she took over as the gym leader except for her first few battles.
Gurkinn "This will be a three vs three pokemon battle, during the battle, only the challenger is allowed to switch pokemons, the gym leader cannot. The trainer with no pokemon able to battle will lose"
Gurkinn explained the rules and asked both Korrina and Julian to choose their pokemon.
Korrina went first and sent out her first pokemon, Mienfoo, a pure fighting type pokemon, Julian looked at her choice and smiled, he then sent out his choice Skrelp.
With both pokemons on the battlefield, both trainers looked at Gurkinn waiting for his signal to start the battle.

It is not an easy task to balance the strain on her soul with the demands of the upcoming battle. In this world, the soul is not an incorporeal concept. To the contrary, the human soul is a physical object, an organ which resides in the chest of each individual. It is a great source of strength, but also of vulnerability. Hardship can leave scratches and blemishes, or even break the soul in two. The soul is each person's connection to divinity, to the magic which is ubiquitous to the world. It enables the cultivation of gods, but old legends warn of demons emerging in the presence of corrupt intention, and of hollow warriors, with no soul at all. There are two sides to every page.
