《Magus Of Darkness》Chapter 12: Creeping darkness

The days passed with Adrius doing the same thing, waking up, going and helping Croft, going to the market, selling his potion, buying ingredients and going back to his room to train and make the potion.
In one week Adrius had 7 magical stones, so he thought to go to the library and buy a spell.
He wore his academic uniform and walked to the library, when he got there he was met with a big wooden door. He pushed it and went in, he was stunned for a moment because he saw hundreds of books on the shelfs.
There was a female magus sitting behind a table, Adrius walked to her and asked her where could he find rank 0 darkness spells.
“ What kind of spells do you want?” Asked the female magus, she had a young pretty face with yellow eyes and dark skin. Her brown hair was tied in a pony tail and she has a red magus robe on.
“ Attacking and defence” Answered Adrius with the respectful manner he always uses when a magus is around.
After the female magus heard his needs she took an orb and gave it to Adrius.
“Put your conscience into it” Said the Liberian.
Adrius did as she said, he has learned how to do it through cultivation.
When his conscience entered the orb he saw a list in front of him and there were spell names and their price next to them.
‘This looks like the hologram that we used in my old world’
Adrius started to look for a spell, he has specified 5 magical stones as the ultimate price.
He looked and some spells caught his attention but they were very expensive, so he looked for the more cheap ones. It took him 15 minutes until he found a spell that was cheap and had good use.
Creeping darkness: The user can create dark smoke that covers everything in 7 meters around the user.

Effect: The smoke has the effect of reversing the sense of directions and everyone in the smoke ( not including the user) will suffer from blindness until they get out from the smoke zone.
Magic power cost: 3 points every minute.
Price: 5 magical stones
Adrius was very happy because he has found this gem, this spell can save his life if something unexpected happens.
“ I want the Creeping darkness spell please,” Said Adrius.
The Librarian raised an eyebrow and said
“ Not many buy this spell, not because it is expensive but because it is very hard to master”
Adrius thought about for a minute but it only made him want it more,
‘ If there aren't a lot of people using it then it is not very known throughout the academy thus making it a very good last resort spell.’
“ I will take it” Said Adrius
“ Okay then, wait here” The Liberian stood up and walked into the library disappearing from Adrius’s eyes, after 5 minutes she came back with a book. She took the money from Adrius when she stood up so she gave him the spell directly.
“Thank you” Said Adrius
The Liberian acknowledged it with a nod.
Adrius walked then to his mentors lab and said the password, he now can mostly understand and speak Xyron. He has advanced so quickly because Xyron is a language that uses the soul as a way to speak so when he learns a new word or sentence it will carve itself in his soul and he will understand it like it is his mother tongue.
Adrius saw his mentor doing an experiment with a cat, the cat’s head was opened and the brain was visible, the worst thing was that the cat was still alive but she acted like there was nothing happening with her body.
The first time Adrius saw Croft experiment, he wanted to vomit. He was a toxicologist in his previous life but his job was just to make poisons and toxins and not dissect a living being, that was someone else’s job. He would just get the results on a video or a picture. So that was very new to him doing experiments on living creatures and dissecting them. He still finds it a little gross but he understands that he will have to do things like that eventually.

“Ah Adrius, how was your journey to the library? Did you buy a spell?” Asked Croft
“ It was good, and yes I bought a spell called Creeping darkness” Said Adrius
Croft’s eyebrow rose
“ I’ve heard of that spell, it is very hard for magus apprentice’s to master it. So be careful” Warned Croft
“Yes mentor, mentor when can I start learning about poisons?” Asked Adrius
“ Not now, your body isn’t tough enough to withstand a poison, thus you have to be at rank 2 magus apprentice to start learning. At least it will reduce the chance of you dying if you made a mistake. But for now I can teach you some mortal poisons, it’s still dangerous to you at this point but if you drink a healing potion that you’re making everything will be okay.”
Hearing the rejection Adrius didn’t continue with the subject and asked about something else.
“ Mentor what are you doing with this cat?” Asked Adrius
“ See this kind of cat has a unique thing about it. Can you see it?” Asked Croft.
Adrius got close to the cat and looked into her brain, he was a bit uncomfortable because this was his first time so close to a brain. But it all vanished away when he saw something, there was a worm in the cat’s brain.
“ There is a worm in this cat’s brain” Answered Adrius.
“ Correct and wrong at the same time, this is not a worm but a parasite.” Said Croft.
Adrius looked again at the parasite, it was 6 cm long white and it had a worm like body. It was connected to the brain.
“ Wait, I know this parasite, isn't it the mind destroying parasite?” Asked Adrius. The mind destroying parasite is pretty famous in the mortal world because everyone who has this parasite will die if they didn’t meet a magus who was willing to help them.
“Wait! This cat’s brain has no sign of decaying!” Said Adrius
“ Good job, you found what I was talking about, this cat’s type is called white flower cat. It is called so because of the shape of a white flower on their forehead and it has the power of rank 2 magus apprentice”
Adrius looked at the cat again, he didn’t pay attention to her because he had other things on his mind, the cat was the size of an 8 year old and had brown fur and there was a mark that looked like a white flower on her forehead.
“ As you have noticed the parasite isn’t doing what its name suggests, destroy the brain. But on the opposite these two have built a symbiotic relationship. I have done experiments on other species but this is the only species that has built a relationship with this parasite.” Said Croft.
“But why is this relationship happening?” Asked Adrius
“ I still don’t know, but I think it has something to do with the white flower cat’s DNA. If I can understand what part of the DNA is doing this then I can apply it on humans and maybe discover something new.”
Adrius understood something at that moment, he was doing it all wrong. To gain knowledge he has to experiment and not just read books all the time.
