《Magus Of Darkness》Chapter 38: Scaring a mortal

The slave market was a very common thing in the big cities. Slavery was a normal thing throughout the magus world, you could find slaves from every race. In the fancy places you could find knights and in the super fancy places you could even find magus apprentices.
Adrius walked in the market with not much expectations, after all The Firebird was not a very strong city, by the magus standard. But if you take the mortal standard then The Firebird is very strong.
So he didn’t expect to find a useful slave or knight here. He could really use a couple of knights to work for him, he can give them missions and experiment on them.
The market was like a normal market except there were cages on both sides of the road with people inside them. People were watching and buying slaves from the slave owners.
Adrius was looking while walking, he then spotted a killing glare coming from his side, he turned his head to find a boy. He was around 10, he had yellow eyes with two grey hairy ears and a grey tail. He was a beastkin, he was looking at everyone with a killing intent. But when he saw Adrius looking at him he started to shiver. Adrius didn’t have any mask so he was covering his face with the hood and only his mouth was shown. That made him extra creepy especially for a child.
The child lowered his gaze when Adrius looked at him, and started to shake in fear. Adrius actually didn’t do anything, he just looked at him. He thought it was the trauma the child had that kicked in when he saw him, maybe a person wearing similar clothes captured him.
Adrius just shrugged and left the place without looking back, this was the magus world. If you have power then you are a god, but if you don’t have any then you are less than trash. And in such a world having sympathy can be lethal, so Adrius won’t interfere in someone’s business unless it means he gets something out of it.

The guard was still following Adrius and giving him a tour around the market in hope of getting on this magus' good side.
Adrius didn’t mind him, it was his first time in a city and didn’t know where to go and what store was good so he could use some help.
In fact this was the first city he visited after his transmigration into the magus world.
He woke up on an air-ship, then went to the selection area, then air-ship again. And then academy until the mission. So technically this was the first time he was out in the world. Also it has been a year since he came into this world.
Adrius cut his train of thoughts forcefully because he saw something that grabbed his attention. It was a shop, a very good looking shop. There was a sign that said that they have knights to sell. Adrius was excited, he had enough money to buy knights. For mortal currency like gold he was very rich but as for magical stones he had only his savings which were around 30. He has stopped the business of the healing potion shortly after he advanced to rank 2 magus apprentice. Because it took a lot of his time and he can use the time to cultivate. But he still took jobs from students, like curing poison, making a potion and things a poison/potion master usually did. It was a good income, he even one time made a poison to a rank 3 magus apprentice who was going on a mission to hunt a magical beast.
Even though his reputation isn’t the best around the academy, people still worked with him because he was the only poison master in the academy. Of course there is Croft but Croft was an official magus.
He was lucky because he brought all of his money with him on this journey, he put them in a pouch he wore in his waist. It was troublesome to carry a lot of stuff but he couldn’t do anything. There were some artifacts and equipment that had a storage ability but he couldn’t find any at The Raven academy’s treasury. It was a rare artifact; only big academies and families had them.

So it was normal for The Raven academy to have none, even though The Raven academy is a pretty strong force in this area of the south region of the magus world. But compared to the real powerful academies and families The Raven academy was an ant. But that was the good thing about the magus world, it was big! There were literally billions of creatures living here. And the land mass was very big. Each region can be its own world that can contain billions and billions of creatures. That is why the magus world was very divided, there were powerful academies and weak academies.
Adrius then walked into the store, the moment he walked into the store a old man with a white beard and a formal clothing welcomed Adrius: “ Welcome honorable guest how may I help you”
“ I was looking to buy some slaves to protect me” Said Adrius with an emotionless voice.
The old man immediately understood Adrius’s intentions, he wanted to buy knights: “ Of course honorable guest, we have a lot of trained mercenary that were captured in a battle” Said the old man, he gave Adrius the mercenaries because not anyone can buy a knight. Especially this kid.
“ I was thinking of a more trained warrior, someone who is strong enough to kill 50 men” Adrius knew that the old man didn’t want to sell him the knights. Adrius guessed it was because of his age and maybe the knights were booked for someone.
The old man still had his cool and a smile on his face: “ i’m sorry, but these warriors you are looking for are only for VIP guests”
“ Oh I assure you I’m one” Said Adrius while forming a ball of darkness in his hand.
The moment the old man saw the ball his face went pale and he started to shake. He offended a magus! He was definitely dead, the old man immediately kneeled on the ground and started to beg: “ I’m sorry my lord for my bad sight, I deserve to die”
“ Stand up and bring me some knights to see, I want to buy some”
An invisible force lifted the old man off the ground, he then shouted at someone and walked to bring the knights.
A pretty girl came to Adrius and bowed: “ Hello my lord, my name is Shirly, I’m sorry for my grandfather’s mistake. Please follow me to the VIP room.”
The knight behind Adrius didn’t speak a word the moment they entered the store. He didn’t want to speak without permission so he wouldn't offend the magus.
“ Good, lead the way” Said Adrius in his usual emotionless voice, he looked very creepy. Especially that he was wearing black robe with the hood on and only his mouth was visible.
They then followed Shirly to a room in the back of the store, the room was a very fancy room. Adrius sat on a sofa and waited for the old man.
After minutes of waiting the old man entered with five people behind him. They then stood in a row, bowed to Adrius and stood still, they were very well trained.
“My lord, these are all the knights we have,” Said the old man with sweat dripping from his forehead. He was still afraid Adrius would kill him for offending a magus.
“ Good, they look very healthy and from what I can see well trained, Where did you get them?” Asked Adrius
“They were servants to a family but the family was defeated and they were captured”

Humans, Elves, Beastmen. All of them. Within these contradictions, a miracle might manifest. But this tended to work with a trial and error methodology. Most mortals never got the happy ending. This diary is my journey alongside a few students of mine. In simple terms - they learn, they grow, they fight. They'll journey through centuries of conflict, from the physical to the educational. They will grow to become useful to me, or die trying like all the others. As for you? The god reading our lives like a book, sitting in your chair without a care in the world?
