Chapter 914: A Done Deal? Where’s the Law? Is There Still a Law?
The next day, the weather turned gloomy again, and it looked like it was about to rain.
When Luke and Selina left the house, they saw a long line of people outside Foggy’s office again. There were even more people than the day before, including some hapless brats in their elders’ grasp.
Selina burst out laughing. “See that? See that? Charlie and Raqael are over there.”
Of course Luke saw them. He turned the wheel and drove close to the side of the road as he greeted the four people who were whispering to each other not far away. “Temple, Barbara, good morning.”
Temple turned around and smiled when she saw Luke. “Long time no see. Are you going to work?”
Luke nodded and asked, even when he knew the answer, “That’s right. What are you doing?”
Temple said, “Signing these two up for community volunteer work.”
Luke looked at Charlie and Raqael with a smile. “Wow, it seems you’ve improved a lot. Do your best. I always thought highly of you.”
The two boys said gloomily, “Hello, boss Luke, boss Selina.”
They couldn’t change the way they addressed them even after finishing the last job.
Of course, they wouldn’t appear in front of Luke if they could help it.
At that moment, it was unavoidable.
What was scarier was that apart from Luke and Selina these “bosses,” they were cursed with something that they could never escape from — a mother and a cousin.
A short, fat black woman waved at Luke and Selina with a smile. “Luke, Selina, thank you for last time, but why haven’t you called? I want to invite you over for dinner.”
Luke said with a smile, “Barbara, you’re still as cheerful as ever. We’ve been very busy recently, and we really don’t have time. However, I have high hopes for Raqael. He’ll definitely be chosen. He and Charlie have experience with renovation.”

This Barbara was naturally Raqael’s mother.
Barbara nodded quickly. “Yes, yes, yes. That would be great.”
It was like the gates of hell opening! What was great about that? Raqael was in despair.
But what could he say? One was his mother, and the other was a terrifying hitman. He couldn’t afford to offend either of them.
As they were chatting, a car stopped on the side of the road. Foggy and Matt got out, and Foggy said to Luke, “You’re here? The agreement is here. Take a look and let us know if there’s anything you need to change.”
As he spoke, he took out an agreement from his briefcase.
Luke accepted it and scanned the pages one by one. He smiled. “You’re more meticulous than I am. This is fine.”
He then handed the agreement to Selina. “Sign it first.”
Selina found a pen in the glove box, signed in the required spots, then wrote a check for 50,000 dollars.
Luke signed the agreement and also wrote a check for 50,000 dollars, then gave both checks to Foggy.
Foggy was stunned. “Isn’t that too fast? You should take the agreement back for a look.”
He was actually quite afraid of people who signed too quickly, because most of them didn’t look closely at the contract and would start wrangling after something happened.
Other lawyers didn’t really care, as long as they got the money, but Foggy wasn’t in the habit of swindling clients.
Luke shook his head. “This agreement is pretty simple. I had a good look. We still have to go to work, and can’t hang around to chat. Bye, everyone.”
Foggy helplessly accepted the agreement and watched Luke drive off.
Temple looked curious, but didn’t ask anything.
Barbara, however, couldn’t help but ask, “Are Luke and Selina filing a lawsuit?”

Foggy hesitated and looked at Matt.
Matt coughed and nodded slightly, and Foggy understood. “No, they’re donors, and the ones who proposed this volunteer incentive plan for rebuilding the community.”
Barbara was stunned.
Realization dawned on Temple, and she subconsciously looked at her cousin and Raqael.
At that moment, Barbara asked uncertainly, “You’re saying that if Raqael does volunteer work, he can get an allowance for poor families?”
Foggy nodded. “Yes.”
“If they’re donors, doesn’t that mean that they’re paying Raqael and the others to volunteer?” Barbara followed this train of thought and suddenly realized something.
“Wait, he just said that Raqael would definitely be chosen.” Barbara looked at Foggy. “Foggy, Raqael doing this volunteer work…”
Foggy nodded helplessly. “That’s right. Luke and Selina ‘think highly’ of Charlie and Raqael’s ‘work abilities.’ They’ll definitely get it.”
Charlie and Raqael’s eyes almost popped out of their sockets. What the f*ck? This hard labor was already a done deal behind closed doors? Where was the law? Was there still a law?
Looking at the two boys’ expressions, and recalling how Luke had declared that they would definitely be chosen, Temple could only shake her head with a wry smile.
Luke had always remembered these two brats.
Looking at Charlie and Raqael’s expressions, Foggy still felt the need to comfort them. “Don’t worry, Hudson’s name is on the list as well. I called his mother last night, and he’ll be here later. You can join together. I’m sure it’ll make the work a lot more fun.”
With that, he and Matt hurried upstairs.
They hadn’t finished with the charity foundation applications yesterday, and they still had to deal with Luke’s donation and volunteer recruitment today. It would be another busy day.
Temple patted Charlie’s head with a smile. “Hey, Hudson’s coming too. Happy? You said last time that Hudson should thank you or something…”
How could Charlie say anything now? He couldn’t even protect himself at the moment; who cared about Hudson?
If Hudson wasn’t afraid of death, he could choose not to come. The two bosses would definitely make him realize the error of his ways.
…
The weather was gloomy the entire day, and it finally drizzled at night, enveloping New York in a misty rain.
Looking at Manhattan in the rain, Selina took a sip of hot cocoa and exhaled contentedly before she asked, “Shall we continue tonight?”
Luke was looking at the files on the couch. He hummed and said, “I said we would give Kingpin half a month. That’s still a few days away. He has a big empire and a big business. He won’t show up unless it seriously hurts him.”
Selina said, “But this guy seems to be avoiding us. According to the intelligence from the police department, the important organization members we’re targeting have all disappeared.”
Luke said, “He’s more tolerant than I thought. If he can really endure it…”
Selina asked, “Should we let him go this time?”
Luke chuckled. “What are you thinking? We can eliminate his forces in New York one by one. I’ve always admired people who can adapt to the situation.”

Lost In Translation
If you're one to travel the roads, you may have heard of me. You may have heard my Names in the stories, the songs, and the whispers of the road. Perhaps you've even seen me during my travels, speaking to a bird of blue light, or on a city street, performing small acts for coin and repute. Or perhaps you may know me as the Skystrider, who walked with the wind. Or the Voiceless, a man of song without speech. You may know me as the Tutor, who taught the Lion of Summer how to fight, or the Traveler, who has walked all the roads of the earth. I am all of these things. And people have branded me a myth. But people don't understand what a myth is. They haven't heard the songs lost to our tongues, nor have they seen the things I've seen. They haven't gone to the places I've gone. My feet have walked the plains, the seas, and the clouds. I have spoken languages unspoken; tongues lost to time. I have sung to the earth, held the moon in my arms, and walked the roads that your heroes hesitate to even mention. I have outwitted Demons. I have danced with the Fae. My songs have been heard by lords of wind and ash, and my steps have echoed in the bellies of gargantuan beasts the likes of which you have never seen. These are what real myths are. And me? I'm no legend. I'm just the bard stupid enough to poke the real ones with a stick. Discord link here. Protagonist: The Whims of Gods
Book one now also on Amazon! After quitting her job as a therapist and grabbing some work at a dog shelter, Tess's life became pretty slow. A tad boring, even. It thus came as no small surprise when she was chosen by a god. Thrust into a new world where magic, monsters, and character levels are suddenly a reality, Tess will quickly find that just surviving can be a challenge. It doesn't help that dark forces are stirring, she's woefully underpowered, and that spiders keep trying to claw her face off. One thing's for certain, though: The possibilities are endless. Will she end up wrestling a dragon? Becoming an arch-mage? Opening a quaint, bookstore, coffee shop, and wine bar for elves? The choice is hers... As long as she can live long enough to make it. Protagonist is a fairly classic LitRPG novel with character levels, classes, stats, settlements, and other LitRPG elements. Unlike a lot of LitRPG stories, while the protagonist has some perks, she doesn't start off overpowered. You can expect to see her struggle as she advances. This novel also takes the opportunity to explore some less frequently seen builds, shying away from any min-maxing. Chapters are about ~2000-3000 words and are released at 8:00am ET every other day.

"Ohhhh, who's this again?" The creep asked. The one with the chainsaw shrugged quickly, looking to his right. I felt my heart jumping out of my stomach and my adrenaline pumping.
