CHAPTER 41
"Haha haha. Who do they think they are?" Jade's voice rang out in the room and Macy could easily detect the sarcasm in her voice.
She already knew her friend's reaction, so her laughter did not come in as a surprise.
Rather what she was going to tell her would be the surprise.
"Umm, Jade, our investors are…"
"Not worth it? Pff what were they thinking?"
"Umm, Jade that is…"
"I knew it. They are thinking too highly of themselves."
"It is not that they are…" Macy was trying to quickly pitch in her words when Jade interrupted her for the third time.
"Would you just let me finish, young lady!" Macy hollered at her. She also had things that she disliked and that was someone cutting her short and this boss of hers just kept on doing that.
"Ahem," Jade cleared her throat after her friend's outburst and shut up so she could do the talking.
"All your guesses have been wrong Jade."
"Oh really?"
"Yes."
"Okay, who are they?"
Now that her friend's tone was more calm and relaxed, Macy decided to drop the final bomb.
"Our new investors are none other than Warner Corporation."
"What!?"
"Yes. Star Cross City's very own number one company wants to do business with us."
"Holy shit!"
"Keep it up. I know, I know." Macy very much understood her friend's reaction and was more than happy she got the right reaction from her.
This was not just any company but the number one. So if they requested her presence, then they could at least grant that to them as a lot of people were desperate to do business with them.
"Wow!"
Jade was still finding it out to believe that the number one company would find interest in her just growing company.

'Hmm, something feels fishy.' Jade thought to herself.
"Jade, are you there?" Macy's voice broke her from her train of thoughts and brought her back to reality. "Jade!"
"Yes. Yes. You were saying?"
"So, what are you going to do? Mind you, this is an important business opportunity to grow your business."
"Huh?"
"Yes, think about it this way, with Warner Corporation doing business with you, other companies would want to invest as they believe any business Warner goes for would definitely succeed since they won't do a business that would bring them losses."
"Even if that is true, you are missing the most important fact here." Jade corrected her friend.
"What is that?"
It was true that Warner Corporation was the number one and everyone thought it the best to do business with them, what they did not know was that something must have made them choose her company to do business with.
It could be her increase in stocks and some other things, but regardless, they did not know why and that included Macy.
"It is quite simple. For the first company to pick ours to invest in, meaning they have seen something in us that is making them be willing to risk doing business with us. It is not we who are lucky; it is they who should consider themselves lucky if we chose to do business with them."
"Whoa! Jade, do you know what you are saying? That would mean…"
Once more, Jade interrupted her but Macy let it slide as this was something very important for them to discuss.
"I am not saying I will not do business with them. Nevertheless, they shouldn't come to my company and call the shots here. Besides, I can choose to not accept their business proposal and do business with some other company. Their loss, my gain, anytime."

She was partially offended by their request, but given their standing as the top-notch company in the city, she could understand their approach.
First, it could be that they virtually saw others as benefiting them and as though they were doing people a favour by doing business with them, whereas it was the others that were doing them a favour as well.
It went both ways, fifty-fifty.
Secondly, it was just to be in a clear position. Perhaps they saw it as transparency if the CEO or the owner of the company was the one to attend their meeting and finalize things.
Macy was stupefied by how well she analyzed the situation within a few minutes. It wasn't much of a wonder though, as her father would have drilled her in the arts of business.
That and the fact that she came top in everything she did even back then at the university.
She really was the heiress of the Deadly Iceberg.
Tsk, a true Mafia heir and soon to be Mafia Lord.
"Okay, what is your decision?" Macy asked, waiting to hear how she would treat the issue as whatever she decided was dependent on the future of their company.
"It is suspicious that they picked us, seeing as there are other successful businesses out there, but I have an idea."
"Tell me."
"Patience, I will."

The Stormcrow Cycle
Once a powerful and lauded witch, Ba'an salu-Ba'an now lives alone in a cave in the desert, waiting to die. When she rescues an outlander from certain death she becomes embroiled in a deadly game of politics and empire, of heart and soul, but worst of all--of hope and love and a chance at a peaceful future. Can a disgraced witch find a reason to live her life again--and if so, what price must she pay? The Stormcrow Cycle is a trilogy comprising of The Exile, The Lion, and Abomination. Tags or genres for each book: The Exile: romance, slice-of-life The Lion: romance, slice-of-life, politics Abomination: tragedy, high/epic fantasy (aka "Everything is on fire!") Updates once a week whenever I have time. Cross-posted on Wattpad and Scribble Hub. The CBMokedi cover will return! Excerpt: She looked down at him again. Young. Healthy, from what she could see, except for the wound that was killing him. He was handsome in a way that suggested a life of wealth and plenty. She did not think he had ever starved. Someone important. Her shadow fell across him, and he frowned. Blearily, he opened his eyes. They were amber and bright, even as he lay dying in the dirt. She could feel his soul, blazing inside of him like a fire refusing to die even as his body began to fail. He met her gaze, eyes widening in what she guessed was surprise—or shock. But he never looked away, staring up at her as though transfixed. Ba’an made her decision. She raised her hand and covered his eyes. In another moment, a murder of crows cawed as they took wing. The man and woman were gone from the road, leaving only the dead staring up into the sky. Note: This is a high-fantasy set in a low-magic world. The first book is largely character-driven and we really only hit the real plot in Book II, so if you're not fond of long epic yarns you ought to skip this one. I also don't include trigger warnings, but mind the "traumatizing content" tag--all societies minus one practice slavery and the world is indeed, rather grim!

Falling for a Star (Complete)
I had never paid much attention to celebrity gossip or what was going on in Hollywood because that was so far from the lifestyle I lived as a poor college student, working as a barista to save up for my own house after graduation. But then, without my knowledge, my Dad submitted my name into a talk show sweepstakes to win a week with Hollywood superstar Dylan Chase, to see what it's like to live like a celebrity for a week. My Dad thought it would be the perfect chance for me to get out of Iowa, see the world and have an adventure for once. I was dreading leaving home, flying for the first time and going by myself all the way to L.A. Plus the idea of spending a week with an arrogant, rich, snobby actor that was probably the worst kind of womanizer didn't sound like my idea of fun. What I found when I got there and met Dylan was the total opposite; a man that was humble, hard working, easy to talk to, and down to earth. Spending a week in Paradise in the guest house of Dylan Chase's Malibu mansion right on the beach, attending a movie premiere on his arm, shopping on Rodeo Drive and eating at five star restaurants was like a dream come true, but sleeping in his bed and falling for a guy from a completely different world than me was never part of the plan because we could never end up together.
