Unlucky?Player Chapter 109

A small deserted island, enough to fit around 100 people, with trees and mini-hills and ditches that hindered one's view. The sun was bright but nothing out of the ordinary, there weren't any birds or animals, just players scattered around the island waiting for the signal. The island was made in a way that it wasn't easy to find the other players, but it wasn't too hard if you really wanted to find someone badly enough!
As soon as Dr. Reed announced the beginning of the event, the registered players immediately made their way to the capsules. A Grand total of 30 players taking part, KYOJIN didn't reject anyone but the only thing was that everyone was aware that Accuracy Spike was for archers or mages. It was quite rare to find players who were willing to take part in public tournaments like this and even rarer to find those who are above level 80.
So 30 was a huge number, more than what the public had expected but that just made them more excited, the more the merrier was what they thought when the number exceeded their expectations. The stadium wasn't noisy at all, everyone was just staring at the big screen that was split into 30 mini-screens, each screen showed the player from an aerial view.
"You got this buddy," Luke said as he looked at the screen showing his friend.
"I got this," Nate assured himself.
"Hmm? isn't that....Layla was it?" Luke said as he spotted a familiar ginger-head, "Was she a ranger?...well this is should be interesting,"
(A/N): There was a small mistake in a chapter where I wrote Layla's class as a Mage but if you look back it's fixed, Aurora is the mage and Layla is the ranger(^_^)
"3"
"What do you guys think? who has the best chance of winning?"
"Are you kidding? there's Layla Milo, of course, she's going to win!"
"Hah dream on! Ju Fen is there as well!"
"Ju Fen??! where???"
"It's true!! right there!"
"2"
"Fairy Ju is the best!!"
"No! Layla Milo is clearly going to win!"
"1"
"Shut the fck up! all of you! it's about to start"
"BEGIN!"
Bunnies - a total of 100 easter bunnies spawned with targets on their backs, as soon as timer hit 0. Players didn't waste any time while most of the archers began to take their aim, a few mages tried their best but only for their spells to miss by a large margin. Arrows were knocked, strings were pulled, piercing sounds took over the island, as arrows began to fly in all directions. Out of the 30 participants, 25 of them were archers/rangers and the other 5 were mages. This raises the question of why would the richer players pay mages or rangers to take part and not warriors or assassins? since there isn't any class lock on this event, this was an extra measure the richer players took to save face, it would be awfully obvious if they were to be warriors or assassins or any other class. Why would a close combat class take part in a ranged event, this would make it very clear to the public, hence this was avoided and only mages and rangers were taken.

"Oy what's that mage doing? haha! did he give up? he's just closing his eyes"
"That's right! already 10 points have been won, there's only 90 left!"
"Fairy Ju and Miss Layla are tied!"
"4 points each, 80% of the points belong to the two of them!"
"And look at that mage still...he still has his eyes close-"
The young mage they were looking at was none other than Nate, after concentrating for a minute or so, he finally opened his eyes, and instantly his hands followed, a weird transparent-blue liquid formed at his fingertips and shot itself straight at a bunny jumping from side to side.
*𝘊𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘬*
The target was hit exactly in the center, cracks slowly formed until the target turned to dust and the bunny couldn't even feel the attack, it just looked around in confusion, its 'brain' unable to process what just happened.
The crowd shared the same expression as the bunny, all they could see a liquid form at the mage's fingertips before it shot itself to the target.
"Ummm, what?"
"Oh, so he's hacking?"
"I think the projector lagged or something?"
"What was that...."
Nobody in the crowd could understand what was happening, nobody except a few, of course, Luke was one of those individuals who understood what happened, looking at his friend tap into his powers, he couldn't help but smirk.
Another individual who noticed what just happened was sitting in the VIP section, she had bright red hair and dragon-like golden eyes, she sported an all-black outfit, composed of a well-fitted pair of slacks, a crisp linen shirt that completely clashed with the aviator jacket she wore. The only thing that was more offbeat than the aviator jacket was the vintage cartoon watch she wore, a closer look of the watch revealed a fat orange cat in the center, waving lazily as the two arms of the watch protruded from his belly and an inscription which read "no time to watch."
'Is that.....that's....no way....impossible! that's mana manipulation! that isn't water you, idiots! that's pure mana!!!' she screamed internally, her eyes wide open from the scene she just witnessed.
"Alright, one down....I think this is the first time I've used mana manipulation for destroying something, it definitely is versatile, and to make it better it looks like water almost so it shouldn't be easy for the audience to understand, not that I care anyway." Nate muttered as he looked down at his hands, they were trembling, he was excited, after struggling for so long, his hard work was finally paying off.
"No time to waste!" Nate screamed as he aimed his palm towards the next bunny and shot. This time pure mana in the shape of a cone went flying towards the target and completely shattered it, leaving the bunny unharmed.

"What is happening? who is that kid?"
"Just how proficient is he in water magic???"
"And why does the water look like that??"
"At this rate....he might...beat Fairy Ju and Miss Layla..."
Layla and Ju Fen were too immersed in accurately shooting to even notice that someone was catching up and at an unimaginable rate and to make it even more confusing, this someone was a mage!
Luke watched his friend flap his hands around, sending mana in any simple shape he could think of, to do his bidding. Nate was jumping around gaining points at a steady pace. Just then heard the sound of a twig breaking, immediately Nate backed away and put his hands up.
"Hoh? good reflexes for a Mage," a voice said as a figure emerged from the bushes. The man looked to be in his mid 30's and had a scar running down his right eye.
"You're a mage as well...so?"
"True but I'm an exception, you see I have beast-like reflexes-"
*𝘚𝘙𝘐𝘕𝘒* *𝘗𝘭𝘰𝘱*
"Sorry I can't be wasting time here and compared to the people I know, your reflexes are similar to that of a child," Nate said as he prepared to fire another wave of mana if people found out that so far he had just been using his 'basic attacks' they would surely flip. The man in front of him had a perplexed expression, he slowly looked down to see that he was missing one of his hands.
"Did yo-"
*𝘉𝘈𝘔*
A sphere of mana hit the man right in the stomach which threw him backward. He puked a mouthful of blood, he was still confused as to what was actually happening, how was this mage creating objects randomly? and within a second at that.
The slice of mana as well as the sphere were both critical hits that brought the man's health down to 10%, naturally, he wasn't at all tanky, in fact, the man was the opposite, he was a glass cannon and was taking damage that couldn't be explained. Thanks to Hecate's symbol, Nate's damage was buffed by a lot, without wasting any more time Nate proceeded to kill the man that was struggling to get up.
[Player Rock killed]
"He killed him so easily?"
"How? did Rock perhaps have low health?"
"No way! what would he lose his health too? he didn't face anyone before...."
"Then....."
"What were those spells? he was able to bend water into shapes....he cut off Rock's hand....and so easily at that,"
"Bah wasted my time," Nate grumbled before he started to shoot his mana shapes at the targets.
It only after Nate's 8th point did the others notice him, he was now leading, Ju Fen was in second place with 7 points and Layla was in 3rd place with 6 points while the 4th place was shared by 5 people, all with 1 point to their name and as for the other players, they were struggling to even secure one and with the constant attacks, it was virtually impossible for them to do so.
"Hmm only 26 points are secured, I shouldn't waste time, there's a possibility I might run out of mana, and then I would have to sit and meditate... No, I can't let it get to that, I have more than 70% of my mana left, so I doubt it will even get to that point." Nate theorized as he gained yet another point.
After roughly 10 mins, there were only 20 players left, 10 of them were killed either as an act of self-defense or by PKers. But that didn't matter as the leader board was embarrassing, there were only 10 more points left to be secured but that didn't even matter.
1st Place - NotYourTypicalMage 42 points
2nd Place - JuJu on that Beat 21 points
3rd Place - Layla 19 points
The fourth place was shared by 3 players and each of them had 2 points, whereas the 5th was shared by 2 players who had 1 point each. The crowd was dead silent, the lead was too much, it was embarrassing for the supporters of the other players.
Luke, however, had confidence in his friend, he was more amused by Ju Fen's in-game name, he couldn't help but chuckle internally but that didn't last long as a buzzer was sounded, signaling the end of Accuracy Spike and just as he expected out of the remaining 10 points, Nate secured 8 of them and Layla managed to secure 2, putting her in second place along with Ju Fen.
"Now that was something huh?!" Dr. Reed said as he ran onto the stage, he didn't even wait for the players to walk away but that was his goal, he wanted to distract the audience from analyzing too much, "But let's not waste too much time! It's time for the next event of the day! Maze Trampling!"

In Umbra Hasta
A blue marble floated in the unending void. On that marble, billions went about their lives, unaware that somewhere else, something had changed. Some requirement was met, and suddenly, a new type of energy saturated the universe. A mother closed her car's door and lifted a bag of groceries in an arm before vanishing into nothingness. Across the world, a teenager disappeared mid-word from a conversation with friends. In eastern America, Captain Octavius J. Asher of the US Army vanished from a mountain trail with no witnesses. People all over the Earth disappeared simultaneously. Such a thing would normally cause mass panic across the globe were it not for the fact that there wasn't a single person left on the globe to panic. Congratulations! Your universe has joined the System. Note: I wanted to read another litrpg apocalypse novel but couldn't find one. Thus, I decided to write one. The MC will be strong for a human but insignificant on a cosmic scale. No destroying worlds with a spell on chapter 25 in this novel. He will face challenges and be forced to make hard decisions. This serial now on hiatus for the time being :( Please rate and review. Constructive criticism is welcome!

A Prose of Years
For decades, spiritualist Evert Kallstrom and his team have joined in humanity’s millennia-long fight against the beasts. Wielding their weapons and their ki, they fought and killed these great threats to civilization. And yet, despite their efforts, humanity was losing traction in the war. In the last fifty years alone, more cities had been overrun than in all of known history. While most thought the great beasts natural, a few knew the terrible truth. They were the product of a dark lord, who desired neither fame nor wealth nor power. Instead, his sole purpose was the genocide of humanity. While their peers dithered, a small faction of the strongest mankind had to offer—including Evert Kallstrom and his team—set out towards the Deadlands to find and confront this dark lord. After weeks of travel, twenty-one spiritualists found themselves approaching an ancient fortress wherein rested a being known only as the Eastern Guardian. All they found was death. But death has other plans for Evert. Evert bolts awake in his 16 year old body near his hometown, decades in the past. He is confused, poor and weak. But with grit, sweat, and years of experience, he won't let the future repeat itself. That level of strength won't be enough by itself (it wasn’t last time) and victory is hardly assured (he’ll need to reach farther and higher than he ever did), but Evert refuses to squander a second chance. [Other tags: First Person POV, Hard Magic, Faulty Memory] Volume 1 is complete and has been fully released. My current intention is not to write any sequel volumes. That said, I have also released appendices (SPOILERS) that cover the worldbuilding and future story-that-never-was. Comments suggesting fixes for grammar, misspellings, etc. appreciated. Note: If you came here from Candlelit Lives, these stories have nothing in common.

Meeting myself
Canceled (This was my first attempt at a story and while I really enjoyed it, I lost track of the thread of the story. The MC was too op, and except for some fun slice of life moments it just wasn't a very good plot. Anyway, I may come back and re-write this in the future because I really enjoyed the premise, but for now don't expect updates.)I've never met Karma; or at least I think I haven't. Hope, really, because I'm pretty sure she hates me. You see, the thing is, I've always hated flying. When you don't wind up getting molested (cavity searched), then your bags get lost, or you spend the entire flight sitting next to a crying baby. This flight was even worse than any of those things. You see, this flight killed me. I won't spoil it, but lets just say, Karma owes me a few explanations. NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE, deserves to die like that. Of course, that wasn't the end of my adventure, far from it. But, you'll just have to read the story to learn about that.(This is a mature fiction, so far their hasn't been anything overtly bad (some minor sexual innuendo and drug use), but their will be plenty of blood, gore, sex, all that good stuff... eventually)
