《I'm a brick! But why am I a Humanoid? [A Non-Level LitRPG with a Humanoid MC full of Magic, Drama and Comedic Undertone]》Chapter 58- Where an army does post battle stuff

Alforien Arlford
The camp was a mess. Well, not literally, the men were sombre enough to not make a mess of things. But from an administrative perspective, things were not very good. The medical tent was overwhelmed, there had been over 100 injured, rengin from light bruising and extreme inebriation to fatally injured.
If it wasn’t for Arlun magicking away most of the smaller ones there would have been deaths. Not that there weren’t enough already. 13 men had arrived at the camp dead. 17 had died within five minutes of their arrival. 23 others were severely injured.
A tenth of the camp had died on the very first day of the mission. There was a difference between knowing that a mission is dangerous and seeing your friends die from it. And all around me, people were realising that.
At least the men that had been injured did not keep their memories otherwise we would have to deal with trauma. Yes ‘we’. If there was one good thing that had come from this fiasco, it was that the commanders had gotten their act together.
They still bickered endlessly, and the worlds would stop spinning the day the commanders of the 7th and 9th Battalions stopped arguing with each other. But they were getting stuff done. Over the course of the last few hours, they had accounted for the dead, organised and ordered the treatment of the wounded, and calmed the army.
Then they had decided to have every single jar, bottle or any other container of alcohol thrown into the fire. And they did all of this while I lay in my bed, once more rendered immobile by lack of mana. Worse, this time, people knew that it had happened. They now knew that I had limits to my power and could be rendered weak and helpless.
Whether that was a good thing or a bad one was not something I could judge yet.
Arlun
The day was turning out to be quite a hectic one for Arlun. Despite being only a third of the way done, it had already left him in a lurch mana wise. Worse still, the patients were constantly increasing. Coming one after another at rates his mana and skill could not keep up with.
At this rate, he’d be useless and out of mana in five minutes.
“Gah” yet another patient said as he woke up. The patient was immediately moved away and replaced with another, this time an even more injured patient.

“I can’t” Arlun said, raising his hands, his mana pool had hit below 5% now. Spending more than that would be foolishness and he highly suspected the way to be immobilised like the Prince.
“No. You can’t take a break, these patients can’t wait. You can,” the nurse beside him said.
“No I can’t. I am fresh out of mana to give mister. I have been doing this for 6 hours and I’m sorry but I have reached my limit.” Arlun said, his exhaustion removing any politeness he had left in him.
“I have been working for 8 hours and I was at that stupid party yesterday. So you better shut up and work your noble ass just like the rest of us.” the nurse said.
“I do not think you understand my position. I quite literally cannot continue. I am completely out of mana” Arlun said, his tone taking on that quiet, flat tone that one would call ‘dangerous’.
“Then go out and get whatever mana juice you nobles get. But do remember to return.” The nurse said, his tone still authoritative. Atlun really wanted to know who gave the man the right to act like that.
Korin, Commander of the 6th battalion (Surprisingly not a temp character, may change that though. Read to find out!)
Korin was quite surprised by the fact that the camp was still standing. When he had been assigned this mission, he had known that it would be his last. The assignment had been little more than a ploy by his bastard brother to have him killed while also charming up the royal family. The sacrifice of a brother to aid in the assasination of a prince would be noted after all.
When the prince had run away, he had been sure that his death had come. Only magic could have won them the battle and there were no casters left. Not there were any to begin with. And then this new prince arrived. An unexplained, unpredictable phenomenon that changed the course of the battle.
A bloody Space Fissure had erupted in the middle of the battle to deposit a new prince. The amount of ‘coincidences’ was mind boggling. And yet he had no reason to doubt this new prince.
Why would royalty come to this wasteland unless they were forced by freak circumstances. One may argue that he only had the new prince’s word that he was a prince. But what they would not know was that he had already confirmed that the Prince was an Arlford.

It was a little known fact in the Kingdom that all the Royal Family members had one defining characteristic. Under direct sunlight, or any strong light, their hair glowed blue. The only reason he knew this was because he was told of this by his uncle who was in the royal guard.
What did shock him however was the princes shear productivity and mana. Most of the so-called ‘Royal Mages’ would have been useless when it came to running an army. Not only would they not know what to do but they would also not be able to heal wounded, conjure food and teach a new noble magic all in one day.
Wait, the battle was on the same day too wasn’t it? The Prince did seem to have an unreasonably large mana pool. Most mages would restrict themselves to the battle and then retiring to their tent.
And then there was today. Korin had been doubtful of how effective the impromptu council would be. That doubt had been cleared today. With the new prince indisposed and the Quartermaster overwhelmed, one would think that the camp would be a mess.
And it was. It was just a productive mess. The council had assumed command the second the new prince had been rendered imobile after the spell, each Battalion commander assuming responsibility for his own Battalion, handling all the matters that emerged without passing them over to the Quartermaster.
One would think that doing so was merely a commander's job. And they would even be right. But in truth, a commander rarely made real or final decisions. That responsibility fell to the General or Noble that commanded the army. In times like this one where the leader was indisposed, the army was usually reduced to a bunch of quarrelling brats.
And this time it was different. The army had quickly adjusted to being governed by a council. This new way of running the army was simply revolutionary, if Korin had not been betrayed by his brother he’d be running to his mother right now, asking her to give her full support to this prince, he may be the road to nobility that his family had been searching for.
Perhaps it was because the Kingdom was the first Nation on Algrea and had never truly been challenged, but it had never developed a decent way to run an army. Every campaign and mission was a mess that needed a noble to magic it away.
But against the Empire that had an equal amount of Mage power, magic was less effective and the Royal armies were not able to cope with the pressure, causing the Kingdom to lose territory left and right. The prince, with his unnaturally large mana pool and cunning intellect might be what the Kingdom needed to win this war.

Humanity Extinguished
I had the same nightmare again. The loss of my first life continues to haunt me, but now it aches like an old wound. A more grievous injury to my psyche was the losses yet to come and the inevitable hellscape I would return to again and again. Reincarnation is my curse. The lives themselves weren't all that bad. Losing people you cared about hurt and all, but even that pain was preferable to experiencing the nothingness between lives for months at a time. It was enough to drive anyone mad. Now I have to focus on breaking this horrible cycle. Thankfully I have all the time in the world. Trace is an average man driven by extraordinary circumstances in an indifferent and cruel world. His reincarnations give him a few key advantages but also take a heavy toll on him. He lives in a world where magic is uncommon and underpowered compared to the limitless physical adaptations you can acquire by getting your hands a little bloody. This story is one of hardship and terrible lows, but also monumental achievements and grand heights. The main character has flaws. While some of these flaws will fade with time, others will worsen. Thank you for taking the time to read my synopsis. I plan to release 2-3 chapters a week. Cover art is 'The Siege and Destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans Under the Command of Titus, A.D. 70' by David Roberts. This art is in the public domain.
