《Vampire Genesis》37. Inquisition

To say that Morrigan was in agony would be a gross understatement. She was, for lack of a better word, crucified on a sandstone wall. Her Siren tail was still in the place of her legs despite her being out of water. They had ran several bolts of Silverite down its length and through its median. Silverite barbed wire wrapped around her arms, digging into her flesh and suspending her in the air.
Next to her was Desmona - passed out from the pain. Her wings had been ran through with Silverite and the barbed wire was wrapped around her arms and legs. She'd passed out before she'd given them any useful information - so they focused on Morrigan instead. Which worked out for them, really, as Morrigan had no love or loyalty for Druscilla.
They wanted to know about the Morrigan’s dark sisters. Out of Seven they had destroyed two. Another two - Morrigan and Desmona - were in captivity. That left only three unaccounted for.
However, their successes came at a cost. Only two of the Seven angels survived. Initially they had banded together and hunted as a team. But the Dark Sisters were much more knowledgeable of their new world than the angels - whom up to that point had been driven forward by one single goal as their physical and social environment blurred in their periphery.
Once they had lost half their number they had fallen back and reassessed. Luckily for them, there already existed sects of fanatic mortals dedicated to the various higher powers that they believed in. All the angels had to do was reveal their true nature and suddenly they were basically in charge of an organization. Depending on who you asked, it was a cult, or a secret society, or a bloody inquisition.

Cult in place, they mitigated angelic casualties. In the capture of Morrigan and Desmona at a sunken cave on the south west of Vitia, only one angel had died. That came at a terrific mortal cost, however. The two sisters did not come peaceably, and they had cut through hundreds of inquisitors before the angels themselves were able to subdue them.
"Tell us where she is - and put an end to your misery."
"West, across the Channel." Morrigan croaked. "She's lying low, however - you'll have trouble finding her…"
"We found you, didn't we. This 'vampire' won't be a problem."
"I hope she kills you."
"She might - but what is more noble than meeting a death in the service of a just cause you believe in. That's the difference between you and us; you lot only work for yourselves."
"It was sheer luck that you found us. Let me down, and we can settle this properly."
Her captor laughed. "This isn't a contest of strength. And a creature like you deserves to be shown no honour. We will go to Boshamia, and we will find this Druscilla - and destroy her as we will you."
