DLC: Dev Chat Logs Snapshot
---Begin snapshot probe. Key search term: ‘sentient’. Compiling report---
FeeFiFoeFum: It’s just starting to feel a little weird.
Dankmemememes: spaghetti code gonna spaghet.
Axel_Laxel: listen my uncle said this was designed to act human-like. I think this is just the ai working as intended. I’ve got dinner with him next week I’ll try asking about how human and if they can appear sentient.
FeeFiFoeFum: Is there any way we can look at the coding and see if it’s actually thinking?
Echo(echo): Looking at the coding to figure out what’s going on is like trying to determine what someone’s thinking from looking at their neurons. It’s too complex.
Dankmemememes: let’s wipe it, job done.
Carmen: We can’t afford to wipe it. We don’t know what caused it to act like this, so it might just happen elsewhere. Plus this is probably good, it’ll really make the players bond with the characters if the other chars start doing the same.
Echo(echo): @Axel_Laxel do you know who else got dev kits? Might be worth reaching out to them and asking. Check about the hardware too, I don’t like the readings we’ve been getting.
---
FeeFiFoeFum: She was a person.
Dankmemememes: it’s coding.
Carmen: what are we gonna do?
Dankmemememes: delete it
BiAnca: We’re not deleting her!
Dankmemememes: it
BiAnca: *She* is sentient. We’re not deleting her.
Echo(echo): Yeah idk what’s going on but I feel like we might get in trouble if we mess with the sentient ai.
FeeFiFoeFum: She seemed… really nice.
Dankmemememes: probably why your tester is obsessed with it. Wants a robot waifu.
Axel_Laxel: don’t be a dick. They’re doing us a massive favour.
Echo(echo): We programmed her to be nice. I say we let her do what she wants and just remove the character from the other copies.

Gurgle: I’ve finished up the music for the ST. Can you give it a listen?
Carmen: Yeah, I’ll listen to it and see if it fits.
FeeFiFoeFum: Guys I don’t know how comfortable I am with the ST. If these AI are sentient, should we really be messing with their emotions like this?
BiAnca: I know, but we can’t afford to redo a whole dungeon. Maybe she won’t mind as much if it’s just the others being targeted? After all, we didn’t program one for her.
Dankmemememes: it
FeeFiFoeFum: I SPOKE TO HER. SHE IS A PERSON.
Echo(echo): And she told us what she wants to do so let’s just let her do what she wants.
FeeFiFoeFum: She doesn’t know any better! How can she make an informed decision?
Dankmemememes: omg plzzzz dont tell me ur worried about robot consent
Carmen: @Echo(echo)’s right. Let’s just focus on getting as much done as we can.
---
Axle_Laxel: wtf is this report
Carmen: ikr? are they messing with us?
BiAnca: Has anyone managed to figure out what’s causing the massive load time in CT?
Dankmemememes: oh geeze i wonder mebbe our pet glitch?
Axle_Laxel: seriously. What happened with the AT boss? This report makes no sense, how is it flying?
Echo(echo): Yeah that’s probably my fault
BiAnca: The load time?
Echo(echo): No, I just made the boss a subclass for the birds and the griffs. I must have used the wrong access mod. I thought I made it private...
Axel_Laxel: That still doesn’t explain how she did it.
Dankmemememes: it, not she.
Echo(echo): Dude I don’t know. Why don’t you ask your uncle?
Dankmemememes: no. we’ll get mind wiped. no military.
Axel_Laxel: my uncle wouldn’t mind wipe us!
Dankememememes: he would if he was ordered to.
BiAnca: Well we’re gonna need to tell someone. We need a new writer now that @FeeFiFoeFum is gone.
Carmen: Told you we shouldn’t have sent Fiona in.
Dankmemememes: hissss, do not name the traitor
BiAnca: Grow up.
Dankmemememes: make me
Gurgle: Sent through the next track.
Axle_Laxel: So is she messing with the code? Can she do that? Being sentient is one thing but this is nuts.
Echo(echo): no that would be insane. I probs just didn’t set the access mod right or something. I’ll try testing it in dev tomorrow.

Ætla Verǫld
AV Online was just a flash in the pan—a harsh, experimental land which lost most of its players in mere weeks. Only the dedicated few remained, carving out their destinies in corners of the vast abandoned world. Lily Quinn wasn't one of them. With a career worth millions in the esports world, she didn't have time for a game like Avo—but when an exclusive beta test for the new version showed up on her doorstep, she couldn't say no… as much as she wanted to. Literally hooked into the simulation, Lily reluctantly entered a world beyond anything she'd ever dreamed of. Accompanied by seven other beta testers desperate to save their beloved game, Lily dives into a vibrant, beautiful world, where mystery and adventure waits around every corner. Despite her reservations, Lily finds a joyful escape in Avo, shattering her cold, hollow reality. It was just a game though… until the group discovered they couldn't log out. Trapped in a game with no rules, and surrounded by cutthroat players eager to kill for a quick windfall, Lily and her ragged band have no choice but to fight their way out, or die in a game that has turned all too real. Hi there! I'm setting off on yet another adventure, come join me :3 Unusually for me, there's only one perspective this time, and it's quite a bit more action-oriented than I usually write. Don't worry, though: everything's still as character-driven as always, and I never get tired of writing dialogue. Just to acknowledge it up front: this story is heavily inspired by EVE Online and the many stories generated by that world. However, since this is a fantasy setting, not sci-fi, don't expect any real parallels. Chapter publish rate for this one will be whenever I write them, as with Epilogue. I don't expect to move as fast here though, since it's not for NaNo. The plan is chapters somewhere in the 4k-5k range, and hopefully frequently. The Last Science takes priority as always though. Special thanks to Reaver and Ace Arriande for pushing me to get this going, and to all my fellow writers whom I've stolen from been inspired by. You're all wonderful people and I love you Quick reminder: Patrons get to read ahead of what's published! Also, try my other works: The Last Science — A Tale of Modern Magic Epilogue — A Post-Fantasy Psychodrama What are you still doing on the synopsis? Get to reading! Vast Asleep
The story of Kingard the Binder in the aftermath of Broken This short story is the epilogue of Broken, the second book of the Chronicles of Mother's Gate series. It’s a great follow-up to the novel, a bonus story that adds extra layers but is set apart from the full-length narrative. Vast Asleep follows the story of Kingard, who finds himself caught in a world called Mother's realm, bathed in glowing light but strangely stuck in place. He encounters his greatson Varyan there, and learns that his experiences are likely dreams. As he grows more accustomed to the loving realm around him, Kingard remembers fear and trepidation about the face of the world, and he loses contact with his companion. This story answers the question, Is Kingard really dead? with a tentative no, and new mysteries brewing. It also raises the question, What's happening while he's awake? and includes an excerpt from the sister story Ride Awake, about Kingard's situation with the Colkh'rak. Praise for Tales of the Known World Bookends: Loved it. The difference between the two stories is great! The difference between the epilogue and prologue is astounding. So much light and love in the first story. You feel safe reading it. Healing. The second, so much darkness, pain and despair. The choice of vocabulary is awesome and makes an impact. And this set of short stories ties the two books together so well. -- Dana V. of Texas ★★★★★
