Chapter 1877: The Gods of Darkness!

Rumble!
A moment later, the High Priest thrust his staff upward, gathering all the energy of the Forbidden Art Sea to attack Wang Chong .
Krakoom! Countless bolts of violet-black lightning tinged with scarlet and wrapped in destructive power hurtled toward Wang Chong .
One explosion after another rang out . This attack carried indescribable might, far greater than that of any other attack made in this battle, even Wang Chong’s three suns .
Blazing lightning endlessly battered the same area .
“How could this be?”
Suddenly, the High Priest seemed to sense something and stared at where the silver whirlpool was in utter shock and disbelief .
The lightning suddenly disappeared, and the churning Forbidden Art Sea also grew calm . In the center of the Forbidden Art Sea, blazing suns began to manifest, all of them swiftly vanishing into the silver whirlpool .
In short order, at least seven massive suns had appeared and entered the silver whirlpool .
Not only had the silver whirlpool not been obliterated by the High Priest’s frenzied assault, it had grown stronger and larger .
The fiercer the High Priest’s attacks, the stronger the silver whirlpool became . Moreover, Wang Chong had only manifested suns, celestial bodies, and stars, but now, he was beginning to create several other objects .
And the High Priest had no idea what they were!
This special system was only getting stronger and more frightening .
Kaclack!
A massive shattering sound could be heard . Around the silver whirlpool, what should have been formless space suddenly solidified and shattered like ice, upon which the shards of space were sucked into the silver whirlpool, dragged in by an enormous pull .
“This is impossible!”
The staff in the High Priest’s right hand trembled .
No one understood what this meant more than him!
This was the clashing of two worlds, of two different systems . That silver whirlpool, seemingly tiny compared to the vast world around it, was in direct conflict with the Forbidden Art Sea and was even beginning to affect it .
But how was this possible?
Any object formed from Psychic Energy, whether it was the sun, moon, stars, or endless mountain ranges… none of them could resist an entire mental domain .
This was only possible if the enemy’s Psychic Energy was far above his . Otherwise, a part of the world could never defeat the world itself . This was a law!

And for a legendary existence like the High Priest, if that silver whirlpool in the sky was a part of this world, it was even more impossible .
The Forbidden Art Sea was the strongest of sealing worlds . Unless the High Priest willed it, no other Psychic Energy practitioner could open their own world here .
No matter how talented Wang Chong was, he could not transcend this law, not unless…
“Not unless the ability he uses… has already transcended this world, and its nature is above that of the Forbidden Art Sea!!”
This sudden realization had the High Priest shuddering .
The world contained all things, and the Forbidden Art Sea was at the apex of worlds . What could be bigger than a world?
Was it really the case that Wang Chong’s silver whirlpool had transcended the level of a world?!
But how was that even possible?!
“Heheheh…”
Suddenly, Wang Chong laughed, apparently knowing what the High Priest was thinking .
“Something that’s larger than the world is naturally the boundlessly vast universe!”
Buzz!
This simple observation was like a bolt of lightning!
The universe!
What was the universe?
Who could know the secrets of the universe?!
Even the strongest Psychic Energy practitioner could not leave the ground to explore the secrets of the universe . How could someone know the secrets of something they couldn’t even interact with? Even the sun was a mystery, let alone the universe!
And how could someone of this world know about it?
Buzz!
This thought had just occurred to the High Priest when the silver whirlpool transformed once more . This time, it was not a sun, celestial body, or a star . It was a massive resplendent collection of lights, like a cloud and like a tapestry . It was a gorgeous sight to behold as it floated in the sky .
The High Priest’s eyes were filled with confusion . Despite all the years he had lived on this world, he still had no idea what Wang Chong had created .
Was it a star?
But there was no star that was like a cloud .
“This is a nebula!”
Wang Chong offered no explanation, only the name, before sending that dazzling nebula into the ‘universe’ he had created . Rather than entering the silver whirlpool, it took its own place nearby .
Boom!
Before one wave had time to settle, another wave stirred . A celestial body appeared, but it was different from any previous celestial body .

This object was completely black, even blacker than the Forbidden Art Sea . Even as he stared at it, the High Priest found it hard to determine if it even actually existed . This was because all light that approached it was devoured before it could even get close .
Without light, it was impossible to see!
It was only through his powerful Psychic Energy that the High Priest was able to see its dark and uneven surface . And from the depths of this celestial body came a simply monstrous pull .
It devoured the waters of the dark ocean, the bolts of lightning in the sky, and even the Forbidden Art Sea itself .
Wang Chong was affecting the Forbidden Art Sea through a higher ‘system’, and this pitch-black celestial body could be considered the core of this system .
“What is this?”
The High Priest was stunned and even more confused now .
Everything that Wang Chong had produced had gone beyond his imagination .
He had never experienced such things before!
“This is a ‘black hole’!”
Wang Chong softly chuckled, still refusing to explain .
“High Priest, thank you for your suggestions . Now, it is time for my counterattack . Your Forbidden Art Sea no longer poses any threat to me!”
Wang Chong’s voice thundered throughout the Forbidden Art Sea .
“In addition, I’ve already linked our minds together! Even if you want to escape or dispel the Forbidden Art Sea, it’s impossible! Only when one of us wins can this end! You can’t escape!”
Rumble! Wang Chong went on the offensive before the High Priest could respond . There was a great shaking as Wang Chong’s nascent universe began to turn, devouring the world around it like a giant maw .
Crash! Crssh! Large chunks of the world instantly collapsed into Wang Chong’s nascent universe, serving as nutrients for Wang Chong’s universe and strength .
And as his strength drained away, the High Priest’s face turned cold .
The Forbidden Art Sea was unique in that it was fused with the High Priest’s mind . If the Forbidden Art Sea were completely absorbed by Wang Chong, the High Priest would die with it .
“No matter what sort of world or universe you have, or any sort of celestial body or nebula you can produce, you’re still far from having the strength to fight against me . Even if you’ve comprehended that world of yours, you’re not strong enough to threaten me yet . And… I won’t give you that time!” the High Priest coldly said . As he did, the giant golden idols standing in the vast ocean came to life .
Their eyes opened, their arms spread, and immense vitality erupted from their bodies . A moment later, these idols had transformed into true demon gods of darkness!
The High Priest did not know the origin of the universe or how it was constructed, but he did know the origin of all myths .
What did it matter if Wang Chong had used his Psychic Energy to create the infinite universe that was unfathomable to all other Psychic Energy practitioners? Could it stand against the gods that were at the heart of all legends?
Boom! Boom! Boom! One demon god of darkness after another emerged from the dark ocean, and what came after were countless armored demon soldiers, the legendary armies commanded by the demon gods .
One hundred thousand, one million, ten million… the entirety of the sea was covered by the endless demon armies . After accomplishing all this, the High Priest’s body became much dimmer, a barely distinct phantom .
The gods of darkness!
This was the most profound technique of the Forbidden Art Sea . In the ancient era when Psychic Energy practitioners were at their peak, this technique was banned . Summoning the legendary gods of darkness, this technique that had been lost for thousands of years, placed an immense burden on the High Priest, and there was an even extremely high chance of a backlash on his body .
But the High Priest could no longer worry about such things, because Wang Chong was already devouring his mind .
“Go!”
The High Priest’s voice was so soft as to be almost inaudible as he thrust his staff forward, sending the innumerable demon soldiers and the gods of darkness forth, joining the lightning barrage to attack Wang Chong .
One terrifying explosion after another came forth, and Wang Chong harnessed the full power of his infant universe to resist the High Priest’s assault, their struggle reaching unprecedented levels of intensity .
As the High Priest exerted all his strength, the Forbidden Art Sea stabilized and began to exert pressure on Wang Chong’s nascent universe .
But the High Priest was still vastly underestimating his opponent .

The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.
