《Hero's Song - A Novel in Verse》Chapter 79 - The Legend
Advertisement
“Once upon a time, there was a demon to the east
who preyed upon the helpless like a vicious, hungry beast
long ago he summoned forth an age endless war
no matter how much blood he spilled he hungered still for more
Despite his evil nature he disguised himself quite well
to trick a righteous monarch into walking straight to hell
many heroes fought the demon til their dying breath
but anyone who fought the demon died a hero’s death
To the north a land of monsters long untouched by man
was ruled by dragons since before our history began
for centuries the dragons guarded peace throughout their lands
but then the demon ripped away that peace with his own hands
He chased away the dragon then provoked a northern king
to start a war of endless spite, destroying everything
the war was long and that was where my father’s father died
and so did too, his friends who all fought bravely by his side
Every creature, every human, every living thing
longed to see the end of war beneath the demon king
the demon of the empire had succeeded in his plan
to bring a life of pain to every woman, child, and man
Legend has it, when the war had come to a stalemate
the northern army and the empire realised their fate
both had been manipulated by that demon lord
another day of death was more than either could afford
In the end their generation paid a heavy price
no one knows how many heroes made their sacrifice
the final battle brought about an all-consuming flame
which burnt away the demon and the armies all the same
The era of the empire and the demon lord were done
thanks to many heroes’ sacrifice, the war was won
still today across the lands, so many heroes fight
to restore the balance, lest the battle reignite
No one knows but some would say the demon lord lives on
maybe he escaped the fire, and really isn’t gone
but heroes train their swords today so if he should return
no more shall the world allow that demon's fire to burn”

The Fight We Chose
"No one starts a war—or rather, no one in his senses ought to do so—without first being clear in his mind what he intends to achieve by that war and how he intends to conduct it."- Harold G. Moore November 22nd, 1963: The eyes of the world turn to the American city of Dallas, Texas, where normality has been forever shattered. An attack the likes of which the world has never seen before has turned the Cold War on its head as the new factor in the silent conflict threatens the balance. The world already teetering on the brink of war, the United States and those that lead it now have to balance a new threat, fantastical in origin, alongside the many others that come with the turbulent era of the 1960s. Eras collide. Values clash. The nature of war remains unchanged.

Little Devil
Samael has lived her entire life in what most people would call Hell... because it is! Fire, brimstone, demons, orgies of sins, pitchforks, and tortured souls—all that good stuff. But Samael is clueless about any of that. Her time was spent in the deepest reaches of Tartarus, living as a wandering hermit with her devil father and the occasional visit of a naggy angel aunt. Meanwhile, Sophia lives a peaceful life as a young priestess on a sacred island, mostly ignored by the world at large. However, as her day is taking a turn for the absolute worst, an unexpected ally will stumble into her path and completely turn her peaceful existence over its head. I do not own the drawing the cover is based on, by FionaHsieh.
