《The Hero Without a Past》Chapter Ninety-Two: The Americans are Helping Too

I spent most of the flight thinking about Goldman’s words.
I had to fight Agni, of course. Couldn’t leave the city to her.
But it said a lot that soldiers on both sides of the Atlantic trusted me enough to - offer their help. Even against the Armykiller.
Why didn’t other heroes get this type of respect?
At Liverpool, even Lady Lumina and Viking hadn’t elicited the quiet support that Nanocloud and I received from the troops. As for Quintana and Soundwave …..
Was I doing something different from others?
I’d heard about Blindsinger and Agni, of course, but was there some other reason that ultrahumans didn’t coordinate with soldiers more often? Some factor I was missing?
I was short one piece of the puzzle. If only I knew which one.
Why did Agni hate armies anyway? And who were the Esperanzas?
“Hey, Dr. Shapiro?” I asked.
The scientist looked up from his reading. “Yes, Belessar?”
“How do soldiers fight an enemy who can escape at will in any direction?”
Shapiro smiled. “Blocking forces wherever the enemy may egress. I assume you’re talking about Agni?”
“Is it that obvious?”
“Yes.”
Shapiro nodded. “You can tell me your plan, if you’d like, and I’ll share my thoughts.”
“She can teleport through flame, so I need to set up an anti-teleport field. And then lure her into it.”
Shapiro shook his head. “If she teleports once, she’s out of your range. How will you guide her into the trap?”
“Nanocloud will have eyes on her at all times.”
“Her nano-drones.”
“Yes.”
“You can certainly track her, but how will you prevent her from running? In any direction she chooses?”
“I … haven’t worked that out yet.”
“The main problem you have is getting her to stand still?”

“Yes. She runs if she’s losing.”
“But she wants to fight you.” Shapiro shrugged. “Give her a reason to face you, one-on-one. Forget about blocking every teleport avenue - it’s not practical. Also forget about avoiding her running. Give her a battlefield where she thinks she has an even chance of victory, and challenge her to a battle there.”
“You mean provoke her,” I said.
“Challenge, not provoke. There is always a target you must defend, and a target she must take. In this case, it’s your person. She’s only able to attack you when you show up in armour? Give her a time and a place, and dare her to fight it out with you. Make it so she has no option but to face you.” The officer set down his tablet. “And challenge her publicly, so she has no option but to respond. Set up the place, make it appear fair - and go in with fireproof armor.”
I sat, stunned.
All of Nanocloud’s preparation, all of my studies of anti-teleport fields - all unsuccessful - and we could simply have asked….
“Thanks, Dr. Shapiro,” I replied.
“Don’t mention it.” The scientist reclined his chair backwards and closed his eyes.

The Lady's Handbook of Intrigue and Murder (High Fantasy Politics)
Summary:The daughter of a dying house is summoned to the Imperial City to meet and perhaps marry a handsome prince. It sounds like a fairy tale. Except Mydea doesn’t have the advantage of a half-forgotten childhood encounter, supreme magic to match the highest echelons of society, or even the privilege of an ally. In order to survive and make a name for herself, she must beat the Imperial Court at its own game. At least no one's tried to kill her—yet. Notes: Basically, if you liked the magic of Harry Potter and the politics of Game of Thrones, you'll probably like this. While the first book focuses on the female lead, and the interplay of competing regional and imperial interests, subsequent books will also cover warfare and how I imagine that differs wildly from historical norms with the introductions of a magical aristocracy. Peerless Hegemon
Warning: Can be quite tearjerking and depressing (or so others say). If you are weak to that and hates that kind of thing, then this story is not for you === Ye Feng lived two lives in one lifetime. First, he basked in the light of Righteousness, becoming an idol of peace and justice. Second, he trod the mired path of the Darkest Path, becoming an object of fear and death. One lifetime, Two Identities, countless experiences, still without purpose. A meaningless existence. An empty husk. In his selfishness of wanting to fill the void in him, he became the catalyst that destroyed Reality. He now controlled everything, ultimate power, uncontestable by none. But he cast it away, to be reborn anew. With a new name and a family, his goal was to understand, his place. To understand how to no longer feel empty. With his family consisting of a Reincarnated Twin Sister and Parents with inscrutable pasts, his desire was not that of grandeur. In this lifetime, he wishes not to hold power, not to gain eternal life, nor control of everything, he only wishes to live, and hopefully look at sunrise with a smile on his face. === Disclaimer: The story focuses on the Main Character’s emotional and personality growth. He is someone who is, obviously OP in some perspectives but almost crippled in others. He is not soft and does not spare anyone because it is “Bad” so expect that there would be genocide and some bloody encounters. I want this instead of just the MC’s search for life and its complication. Where Philosophy and values exist. A story where every action has proper consequences, and not everything can be conquered with a single punch (unless it can be, no need for an unnecessary complication if it can be avoided). Further Notes: This is a story that will gradually increase in word counts and become Chunkier as it progresses and will almost never be below 2000 words, but if the word count will only lengthen the chapter at the expense of a finished tale, it could and would be cut off before 2000 mark), give it a try, it won’t disappoint (I hope). And if by chance that you like it, giving a good Rating and Review will be encouraging to me and possible readers. Schedule: Monday and Friday If you want to read ahead and/or support me to creating this story, you can do it through my Patreon (link below the next chapter button.)
