《A Fungal Dream》Chapter 53. Gods

“Amazing, isn’t it?”
The corpse looked at its hands, moving each finger individually.
“What is this? Necromancy?”
War approached the body and put her hand on its shoulder, feeling a faint heat from it.
Now that it was standing before her like that, its features became more visible.
The body looked strong and well-built. Its golden hair was cut short like they do in the military.
If not for the hole in its chest and glowing eyes, it could have passed for a real human.
“Please I haven’t felt so low to use such barbaric tools. No, this is all thanks to you. The white mold that you provided to me is the one which allowed me to do this.”
The corpse stepped out of the circle and moved to the motionless Darwin.
“Man, I really need to get that hole cowered. It's nasty to look at.”
The body turned around and smiled at War.
“You see, the white mold you created has an incredible quality. With the proper application, I can send my mind into this puppet body. The process is quite interesting, through magical par… tic… le…s…”
The light from the corpse’s eyes slowly faded away, before it collapsed on the ground, making me scream a little again.
“Oh, I am sorry.”
Darwin stood up from his chair and ran to me.
“This is still a prototype, there are a few glitches to be fixed before it could be properly utilized. If you have nothing else to tell me, please leave, my work isn’t something a young lady should see.”
“…Alright. I just wanted to tell you that tomorrow we are leaving. History has a job for us.”
“Fine. Fine. I will be done by tomorrow.”
He escorted me to the door, and once I passed it he slammed it shut.
“…Creepy. Are all scientists like that?”
****
Once War left, I started laughing.
It started as a chuckle, then it became full-blown mad laughter.
“IDIOT! SHE IS AN IDIOT!”
I jumped off my chair and opened another bottle of alcohol.
“To progress and me!”
I drank the whole thing with one swing then I looked at the corpse.
“Buddy, we are going to places!”
I wasn’t lying to War, the white mold was capable of doing what I told her, but it was just a fraction of its abilities.
To put it blankly, this mold was a piece of paper.
Like with any paper you could fold it, write on it, draw on it, and so on.
Such was the multifunctionality of the white mold.
With the right ‘writing’ on it, its possibilities are limitless.
“Hehe he, this is going to be fun.”
I walked to the mirror and shouted into the passage behind it.
“Bring me the materials!”
As I put the mirror away from the passage, the servants came rushing in, carrying metal mold crystals with other materials.
“On that table is alright. Also, lock the door which leads down here. I do not wish to be disturbed. “
As the servants did as they were told, I prepared my tools for the operation.

I stole a glance at the book, which laid open its yellow pages taunting me to ask it a question.
“…Fuck. Okay, book, tell me, how can I upgrade this body?”
Soon the texts appeared with images, depicting the steps I had to take.
“Alright, let's get to work.”
After I put on my surgical blows, now wanting to infect the body just yet, I followed the instructions in the book.
First, I made insertions on the limbs, peeling off the flesh and skin so that I could access the bones. This was cleaner than the previous operations, with all the blood being pre-drained to make the magical circles.
Once the skeleton of the arms and legs lay bar, I grabbed one of the molded metal crystals and using my skills, I made it twist and shape.
When the metal took on the desired shape, I replaced the bone with it.
It was slow and hard work, which required several liters of healing potions, to correct the errors I made.
But it was worth it. Soon, the bones of the arms and legs were replaced with mold metal.
Feeling that it was enough for now, I proceeded with my upgrades.
These upgrades weren’t as great as I had, since I didn’t have the talent or materials to make them, so this model needed to work with the materials I had at hand.
Since I wanted to use this body for combat, I made two blades and put them into the arms, planning to add specialized muscles to make them shoot out from my wrists, like the blades of certain hooded people.
While I was at it, I added small, penny-sized metal plates on their fists for stronger hitting power.
“… Maybe I should put these on the whole skeleton. An internal armor and all that… No, white mold may need the nerves which are spread through the spines. For now, I will just cover the ribs, I will try this in the next model… Now that I am thinking about it, I am making a fantasy wolverine, aren’t I? No, No, that guy has three claws and can not do magic. This isn’t copyrighted!”
Once I was done with the ribs the trickiest part came.
Using the book. I order one of the servants to bring me a sample of the crystal mold.
Once I had it in my hand, I used my surgical skills and healing potion to attach it where the body's mana heart was, while making the thing start to form its own crystal.
[Several gods are amazed by your ingenuity]
[Several gods are horrified by you]
“I honestly don’t care.”
Using the skills of [Body Knowledge], [Basic Steady Hand], and [Surgical Precision] I folded back the flesh onto the bones, while continuously healing them with my potions. But I didn’t stop there.
Using my [Mold Manipulation] Skill I made the white mold grow, spreading it from the base of the neck, and moving all the way to every inch of its body, before covering it back up with the rest of the flesh and skin.

Once I was done the body had no wound on it, almost as if it was sleeping.
“ Alright. Now to the next thing.”
With the help of the servants, I turned the body around laying it on its stomach.
From under the table, I took out an urn, which contained the blood which belonged to the corpse.
I lifted my arm, and bit into my hand, pouring my blood with the stuff.
Quickly, before the mold could grow, I mixed the two liquids and with a brush, I started to draw on the back of the corpse, while mumbling an incantation in Latin.
Seriously, what with this world and Latin?
“ Audite me animas mortuorum. Audite me, animae Orci. Venite ad me et audite orationem meam.-“ (Hear me, souls of the dead. Hear me, souls of Hell. Come to me and listen to my prayer.-)
This went on for so long, needing me to keep up a rhyme with my work since I had to finish the drawing at the exact time when the chant was done.
“ - Da igitur quaeso spiritum meum tutum transitum in hanc inanem testam. Amen. Ave. “ (- So as I pray, grant my spirit safe passage into this empty shell. Amen. Ave.)
With the last word, I finished the drawing.
The magic circle on its back started to shine with a green light absorbing itself into the skin.
It even seemed like the mold crystal which was located in the middle of the circle absorbed some of its energy, its rainbow glove being visible from where I was standing.
Perfect.

[A decision needs to be made.]
“A what?”
“Come with me.”
Hearing the sound of someone I didn’t know, I spoon around, a small knife in hand.
As I was stabbing into thin air, the world around me… broke down.
The bricks of the wall and ceiling of my lab, detached from each other and floated away into the darkness behind them.
“What is happening? Am I under attack?”
When there was nothing more than the ground I was standing on and the table on which the corpse was lying, stars started to appear around me.
At first, there were a couple then soon entire galaxies surrounded me.
“The fuck is happening here?”
Out of nowhere, things started to appear around me.
They were thrones that were floating in this space.
Hundreds. Thousands. As many as there were stars in this space.
“DARWIN TIM RIGHT. THE PLAGUE FATHER!”
A few meters away from me, a column of flames shouted out from which I could see the rough outlines of a face.
“You. I know you! You were at the dungeon! What is happening?!”
“YOU ARE CALLED HERE BY THE GODS! BOW YOU HEAD FOR THE MIGHTY TO RECEIVE JUDGMENT.”
“That’s enough. We have it under control. You may leave.”
On the thrones people appeared, their faces and clothes continuously changing making it damn hard for me to identify any one of them.
The column of flame disappeared and something else appeared in its stead.
It was another golden throne, but it was way bigger than the other and I could tell that the one sitting on it wore a white robe and had quite a long beard.
“Darwin Tim Right. Phil Smith. The Apostle of Putrefaction. The Plague Father. Father of the new race called kayeri and the one who created that… thing behind you. What are you calling it by the way?”
“Ehhh, I haven’t named it yet. Steve?”
My answer seemed to please this giant. It started to laugh in a booming voice, which shocked the ground under my feet.
The other thrones also laughed, but I could feel an awkward feeling coming from them.
“Hahaha, It's been so long since a mortal made me laugh so hard! You are an interesting creature aren’t you?”
The giant lifted his right hand slightly, making the platform I was standing on approach him slightly.
“Yes, a being that possesses the powers of The One Above and The One Bellow. What makes you so special, that it lets you use these gifts without harm?”
“I-I do not know. I just use them.”
“…Whatever. All will be showered in time. Today, we have a different matter to attend to.”
My platform floated back to where it was with the thrones arranging themselves in a way that they could all see me.
The giant raided both of his hands and spoke in a loud voice.
“GODS OF EXISTENCE TODAY WE SHALL DECIDE THE FATE OF DARWIN TIM RIGHT HIS RECENT CREATIO AND HIS SPECIES!”
“…Could we not?”

My Pixie Familiar
Pixies are real. Not only are they real, but are considered pests due to their mischievous nature and love of pranks. Some people think they are magical and making a potion or powder from their wings will transfer that magic to a person. Any good alchemist will tell you that is not true. Most will gladly take your money and make you a "magic potion" though. My name is Jase Fisher and I thought I would follow in the steps of my mother and become an alchemist since I didn't enjoy fishing, hunting, or any of the other trades offered in Beau Ferry, my village. Not only have I been looking forward to being an alchemist, I was looking forward to bonding with a familiar. My biggest fear is not bonding with one of the exciting familiars such as a dragonet. If I can just make it through the bonding process, my life is set. Oh, and not run afoul of any pixie pranks.
