POV Colossus:
What a peaceful slumber, so comfortable. I still envy those tiny elementals, nobody probably forced them wake after just a thousand years of sleep. It’s always irritating to stand up after sleeping for a thousand years. When I first woke up, I was under a small pond and got soaked with water. Then, after merely taking one step, I get encased in layers of dirt. Now that I think back, it wasn’t even that comfortable.
After crossing an ocean to escape that hideous continent, I faceplant into a beach. The sand was much too loose, I couldn’t sleep properly. Now, just to stand up, I had to force a hill off my body. It’s not hard, just irritating. I can’t see properly with so much dust around me and notifications blocking my vision.

Ha-ha, at least this is some wonderful news. I’m finally one step closer. When I first opened my eyes, after waking, Zohn looked so distressed… and white. I managed to calm him down, but I should ask him what’s wrong. He’s usually so calm and happy, it’s probably urgent.
I turn my head towards Zohn. Damn this dust! Its turned Zohn’s white clothes completely brown. Zohn doesn’t seem bothered by this, he still has his usualy calm face. Maybe I’m just worrying over nothing? Still, it doesn’t hurt to ask, “Zohn, my dear friend, what was with that previous distressed expression? Was it because your hair has turned white?”.
This is a reasonable question, so why is Zohn suddenly frowning? It’s probably unrelated. Zohn looks like he’s at a loss for words. Don’t worry Zohn, there’s no rush. I’ll just wait till you’re ready to speak. For now, I’ll organize my thoughts while I wait.

This dust is insufferable. I try to ignore it, but the dust is warming rapidly. The heat doesn’t bother me, but it probably bothers Zohn. I’ll wave the dust away; some sunlight might help Zohn to think.
I wave my arm through the dust cloud, it doesn’t seem to make much of a difference. Anything helps at this point, and I’ve got no better method right now. I wave my arm again and again. The surrounding temperature is spiking. What is going on? I hasten my waving, trying to get a proper look outside the dust cloud.
I quickly look towards Zohn. Why does he seem so scared? We need to leave this dust cloud, it’s upsetting Zohn. I stop my aimlessly waving. I pull my arm back and in one quick motion, I wave my hand through the dust cloud. Halfway through, my hand suddenly impacts something incredibly hot.
The impact forces me a step back. Fortunately, Zohn has already retreated into his house. The good news is, the resulting force managed to thin the dust cloud, but now my beautiful hand is scorched black. Am I missing something important? It can’t be, I’m usually extremely observant.
Why can’t I wake up in a peaceful and calm manner? Is it my fate to be cursed by rude awakenings? I need to leave this mountain, it’s become so unpleasant compared to when we first arrived. How was Zohn able to live in this ugly place? It’s probably a mystery that can never be answered. Also, my back feels heavier than it should be… I’ll focus on these conundrums later, I need to focus on the task at hand.
I barely move and the stone under my feet crumbles to dust; why is everything so difficult today? Climbing down seems unwise. There isn’t too much left of this mountain, only about five kilometres. Jumping down shouldn’t be too hard? Hmmm, yes, it could work. Zohn is still in his house, so there is nothing to worry about.

I’ll jump on three. one… two… three!
Ugh! That could have gone better. The landing was a success… Somewhat. Sadly, my legs are currently completely embedded into the ground. How was I supposed to know the ground was this soft? How did my brethren go about their day when they were larger than I’m currently? At least this can’t get any more irritating.
I’ll start with pulling myself out of the… What is making such a noisy ruckus behind me? I turn my head to look and I’m greeted with a blast of dust. I’m barely able to see the last parts of the mountain crumble completely. This must have dispersed the dust to the surrounding landscape. Was my small jump too much for the mountain? I need to learn to control my strength.
I finally manage to escape the intolerable dust, but it has returned for revenge! I should have known such a mighty foe wouldn’t be defeated easily. My only option is to fight back. Be prepared dust! Breaking out of the ground can wait, this fight is more important.
Without hesitating, I start waving my arms rapidly. The dust doesn’t stand a chance against my prowess. Ha-ha, just a little more and the dust will have no other choice than surrender. Who is shouting during this pivotal moment? I look towards Zohn house and in front of the house, I find Zohn frantically waving his arms.
Ha! Zohn has joined the battle, now the dust’s defeat is inevitable. “Col! Calm down!” I hear Zohn shout. “There isn’t time to talk during battle” I answer back, are you crazy Zohn? “Battle? Never mind, Col, stop waving your arms, please calm down.” Zohn shouts again, his tone seems pleading. Fine, the dust is permitted to survive… For now.
“Welcome back old friend” Zohn greets me, a wide smile brimming from his face. Oh right! I haven’t greeted Zohn since I woke, how rude of me. We’ve been separated for far too long. “It’s wonderful to be back,” I reply, my mouth forming a smile as I speak.

There is only one problem: she may be losing control of her abilities. Sixteen years after a global pandemic devastated the earth’s population, the lines in the old United States have been drawn between the Cheyenne Directorate in Colorado and the New England Alliance on the East Coast. However, when a diplomatic mission to the New England Alliance goes wrong, Alexandra finds herself at the center of a bloody civil war. Battles are fought on the old highways and in dilapidated towns and once-great cities. And as the conflict escalates, all of North America faces the threat of being burnt away by nuclear fire. Against this backdrop of war, Alexandra tries to uncover the long-hidden secrets behind the plague, her abilities, and the two men fighting to decide the fate of the United States - Henry Bedford, Alexandra's father and leader of the Directorate, and John Martin, the mysterious figure at the heart of the New England Alliance who may hold the key to everything she seeks. None of this will matter, however, unless Alexandra can prevent the power growing inside her from taking over and consuming the very world she is fighting to save. Author's Notes: I appreciate you taking a look at my novel, The Girl from the Mountain. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, military thrillers, and/or cosmic horror, I think you'll enjoy this story. I completed the novel's first draft back in 2011 and made significant changes in 2016. Since then, I've more-or-less sat on the manuscript while working on other projects. Thanks to a bit of prodding, I've decided to send this story out into the wild with some touch-ups and additional revisions. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and I hope you enjoy The Girl from the Mountain!

Neos Online (Hiatus)
Every person has a tale. A story with which a person defines the world around them. Yet the question remains, is it the person who defines the world, or the tale itself? In the case of Elijiah Pierce, it is a question that many don’t really understand the answer to. His story was thought to have ended with the ending of the Third World War. A retired super-soldier who wished to live in peace is brought back into the worlds tale as his memories threaten to overwhelm him. With psionic individuals on the rise throughout humanity, the United Worlds Council asked for a company, any company, to help deal with them. With the turning of 2234, Corellec Inc introduces a new sort of entertainment for the billions within the Sol system. A game built upon DDVR, or Deep Dive Virtual Reality. A realm built within the net allowing the players to have their playground. This would, in essence, help solve the problem. With his friends and family wishing him to try something to deal with his problems, he finds himself venturing into the virtual realm of Neos Online. The very game that had been in the process of gathering players for its Beta. It would come to pass that not only would this game change him, but it would also be changed by him. For both machine and man harbor secrets that could change the course of human history, and not every secret should be brought to light. --------------------------- I'm shite at writing synopses, so just give it a try and see if you like it. I do not claim ownership of the cover art, it is just a stand in until I can commission a piece.

Dismissing Darkness
Out amidst the stars, far past the point Earth appears as a pale blue dot, a human spacecraft plunges forth towards new and exciting worlds. The passengers know they are never going home, not after the lengthy journey ahead of, and to a lesser extent behind them. They while away their time frozen in body and plugged into a simulation in mind waiting for a new planet to explore and colonize. Still, space is a place large enough for a surprise or two as our protagonist, the underqualified Mike Jackson (no relation) is soon to find out. ~~~ I will be posting chapters here and on my wordpress blog-thing, hopefully within minutes of each other multiple times a week. Currently on hiatus. If I get back to writing this one, it will be after I tweak it to make it feel less like an empty world with too many extras in the background.
