《Wildling》Thirty-eight: Cold as Ice

After letting the dummy beat the ever-living shit out of me for a full hour to earn my three constitution bonus points, I queued up a quick meal from the cookpot, raised my cooking skill to four, then settled down in front of the forge.

The bar halted at a little under ninety percent, then disappeared.
Catastrophic failure. All materials have been destroyed.
I said.
Ezzie said.
I sighed and cued up another pair of greaves. Which failed ten percent into the creation process.
Thankfully, it’d just been a regular failure, so I hadn’t lost the scale I’d used, and I had so much bronze on hand between the bars I’d forged before the invasion and the raw materials I’d farmed up via the golems that losing raw materials wasn’t worrisome.
I kept at it, eventually getting my Armorsmithing up to eighty-four and forging the greaves as well as a helmet:
{Iceshard Greaves of the Wildfire}

Secondaries: +7 Frost Resistance
Durability: 45/45
Armor: 12

Ezzie said.
Damn. I’d forgotten about that, too. The idea of being able to specialize made want to hold onto my scales even more.
Wait…I didn’t need to use a scale to level up, right? I’d learned the bronze pieces pretty recently, so it seemed like they’d still give points with or without the use of modifiers. I queued up another helm, since that was the cheapest of the three pieces I had.
Ezzie said.
The helm finished successfully—the bronze items themselves didn’t seem to have a chance of failure—and I earned two more points in Armorsmithing, bringing me up to eighty-six.
So the scales hadn’t been accounting for all that much of my growth, then. Interesting. I made two more helms and bumped my skill up to ninety, unlocking the recipes for five more pieces of gear:

Recipe: {Bronze Epaulets}
Requirements: 12 Bronze Bars, 2 Medium Flux, 1 Leather Strap
Recipe: {Bronze Gauntlets}
Requirements: 9 Bronze Bars, 1 Medium Flux, 3 Leather Strap
Recipe: {Bronze Boots}
Requirements: 8 Bronze Bars, 2 Medium Flux, 3 Leather Strap
Recipe: {Bronze Belt}
Requirements: 5 Bronze Bars, 2 Medium Flux, 2 Leather Strap
Recipe: {Bronze Bracers}
Requirements: 5 Bronze Bars, 2 Medium Flux, 2 Leather Strap
Ezzie said.
I looked down at my gauntlet, where my throwing knives were still lodged.
Ezzie said.
I shrugged.
I went to work…in that I watched the forge go to work. Two more failures occurred before I completed the set—both failures being of the normal variety—and I also hit ninety-nine in Armorsmithing.
Unfortunately, I’d also received a series of profession prompts:
Congratulations, you’ve hit the Grade F Armorsmithing cap!
Progress to Grade E to unlock Intermediate Armorsmithing.
All further Armorsmithing gains are now disabled.
I said.
Ezzie said.
I did my best to tamp down my irritation. It wasn’t all bad, really: I’d managed to unlock the recipe for the bronze shield—so I went ahead and made one of those—plus I’d procced another rare upgrade for my bracers.
The upgrade was a little bittersweet: the stats were just about perfect, but it seemed like it would have been a lot better to proc an upgrade on a piece of armor with a higher stat budget, like the greaves or the shoulders. I threw the bracers as well as the shield on with everything else I’d just crafted.
Ezzie said,

I couldn’t agree more. The set was midnight blue, so dark that it was verging on purple, and the smooth surfaces were etched with tiny white snowflakes.
Ezzie said.
I said. I had no doubt that the snowflakes would resemble stars from a little way out.
Ezzie said.
I winced.
Ezzie laughed through the link.

Cycles, which the only purpose is to purify soul – release it from the burden of its memories and experience, the process, that would let the soul be reincarnated again, to experience new life. The world is being born, it is being populated by souls, the smaller and bigger, the world would die and be reshaped anew. In a cycle. A never-ending process. Since the dawn of time, since the countless cycles, the pool of soul was closed, a soul that died could be reincarnated only within a System of its Administrator. Until now. Join us in our story of a single soul which because of certain events could no longer be reincarnated in its original world – being forced to be transferred into Universe ruled another Administrator – another God in world full of Fantasy and Magic, watch him casting aside his previous restriction and try living his life to the fullest… thought someone, somewhere, may have different plans for this weird, weird soul. Ps. There are game elements here Disclaimers and warnings: - This story uses clichés. Like, lots of it. - I am not a native English speaker, so my grammar may not be best (It actually is pretty horrible). First 80 or so chapters are a true butchery for eyes and I admit it. Shouldn’t I correct them then? I should. Why am I not doing it? Who knows. Maybe one day I will. - This story is pretty much an experiment. I try different perspectives, different styles, I can make some random Deus-ex-machina if I would consider that I made mistake in the story and decide to change it. - This story is written for pure fun, if you expect some mind-blowing plots and conspiracy of top-level authors – then you will be most likely disappointed. - Easter eggs. Easters eggs everywhere. Every now and then you will be able to spot single events, characters and lines of text that belong in different stories/mangas/movies/books and such. Of course, they do not belong to me but to the owners, though I am not listing them – I am sorry, but if you need to be told from where line comes, we won’t be friends. - And finally. The story is written for you and WITH YOU. If you have any suggestions, events, characters, skills, class… ANYTHING… you wish to see, please – tell me. In best case scenario I would use them, in worse – I would just not implement them, so what do you lose? Guyz I owe my thanks for their contribution: KenChi? Taverns edge - A mercenary's guide to Ley Line traveling
The taverns edge is a fiction that centers around a pair of unusual friends. A mercenary that happens to be a princess of fae, but prefers to stay in a well-known établissement instead of staying in the Sidhe. Moira. Being half a dragon doesn't really help getting along with snobbish elitists at her mother's court. Like all sidhe she likes to strike a good deal... Which has led into many a disaster... Though she always tends to get by, especially when she gets home to the Tavern on the edge. The mentioned établissement is run by the formidable Barkeeper and jack of all trades Tora, who happens to have a very interesting past. Which involves more than one sinister secret... Now add to the mix a totally clueless elven girl - a mortal, not a fae- on the run. Lunara. She has unknowingly struck a deal with the devil - quite literally. Now unable to handle the consequences on her own she enters the tavern on the edge. An epicenter for magic and the only place where she might find help. She talks Moira into helping her out. A race against time begins as the deal's symbols appear on Lunara's skin. The journey leads to the dwarven empire, the sidhe and wherever the crossing leylines under the tavern may lead. This fiction belongs to the same universe as Ancient Blood. English is not my native language, so please don't be harsh. This story is an adaption of an idea, that we, a friend of mine and me, have developed over a few months while taking a break from learning. Some parts were written by Emberspark. Thank you for allowing me to work with your ideas and letting me publish this as a whole. Updates... I will try to frequently update both of my fictions... Well in case you are interested I post it on Scribble hub, too. I really don't steal from myself 😂
