《Demon's Journey》Chapter 8

Raea stopped the carriage in front of a metal gate with stone walls on either side. She stood up and exited the carriage as her guards approached from behind. A man dressed in blue armor squinted at the group of people below from the top of the wall. “Lady Raea? I was expecting you.”
“Yes,” Raea said and nodded. “On the way here, we encountered Lady Menyel’s carriage and I took the liberty to bring it here.”
“Just her carriage?”
“She is no longer with us.”
“I see,” the man said and nodded. “That is unfortunate.” He signaled behind him with his arm and the metal gate creaked as it rose. He turned around and walked down a set of stairs. Raea and her group entered the city with their carriages in tow.
“This way,” the man dressed in blue armor said and gestured with his arm. “You can tell me all the details over tea.”
“I appreciate the hospitality, Captain Ishim,” Raea said and smiled as she walked next to the captain. Her guards glanced at each other before following behind the two. The group arrived at a two-story wooden building and was greeted by a purple-skinned butler. Raea sat down on a wooden chair with animal furs draped over it while Ishim sat across from her. The guards waited by the door and the demon butler disappeared before coming back with seven cups of tea on a platter.
“Thank you,” Raea said as she accepted a cup. She turned towards Ishim. “Is he your contracted demon?”
Ishim nodded as he took a sip of his tea. “I named him John,” Ishim said as he watched John pass out tea to Raea’s guards who stood by the door. “Care to guess what his sin is?”

Raea raised an eyebrow and turned around to face the butler. “He does not seem to have any special attributes,” Raea said as her eyes scanned John’s body from head to toe. “A minor sin then, cowardice or kleptomania?”
Ishim smiled as he placed his teacup on the table in front of him. “His sin is envy,” Ishim said. Raea’s face blanched and her eyes shifted towards her tea. “Interesting, right? He has no animalistic attributes, yet his sin is a major one.”
Raea bit the inside of her lip. “Interesting,” she said and nodded. “Yes.” She took a sip of her tea and raised her head to look into Ishim’s eyes.
“I wonder what your sin is,” Ishim said and smiled while clasping his hands together.
“Nonsense!” the head guard shouted and stepped forward, causing his tea to spill. Raea raised her hand, cutting the head guard off.
Ishim chuckled and turned towards the guard. “I was merely joking,” he said and leaned back into the animal furs. He directed his gaze towards Raea. “Tell me, what happened to Lady Menyel?”
“She was eaten, organs and all,” Raea said and sighed. “Her carriage was stopped in the middle of the road, surrounded by a pack of dead wolves. All that remained of Lady Menyel and her guards were bloody skeletons left by the road.”
Ishim frowned. “Eaten,” he said and furrowed his brow. “The king of the forest? Why now?”
“Perhaps it disapproves of us erecting a fort in the middle of its lands,” Raea said. “It may feel threatened and is lashing out to express its anger.”
“Stupid beast,” Ishim said and shook his head. “This fort was built to stop the halflings from invading. It also benefits if we keep them out.”

“It most likely does not realize this,” Raea said. “We are the intruders in this situation; it must be frightened by us.”
“As it should,” Ishim said and nodded. “Lady Raea, to prove your worth, I ask you to lead an expedition against the king of the forest. Bring me back its head. You may take twenty of my men.”
Raea furrowed her brow. “There must be better ways to deal with it,” she said and bit her lip. “We can capture it and relocate it or placate it with gifts.”
“It has already killed Lady Menyel and her guards. In the future, there may be even more casualties. We have our orders to follow and if upholding our duty requires us to eliminate a savage beast, then so be it,” Ishim said. “I understand that your virtues are kindness and forgiveness, but there are some creatures in this world that deserve neither. Do not disappoint me unless you want your father to hear about your disloyalty.”
Raea gritted her teeth. “I understand,” she said with quivering lips. “I will set off immediately.” She stood up and whirled around, not allowing Ishim to see the tears forming in her eyes. She nodded at John and her men before she walked past them and exited the building. The head guard narrowed his eyes at Ishim before following after Raea.
“You do not have to be so obedient,” the head guard said as he walked alongside Raea on the brick road. “Your statuses are equal.”
“Yeah,” one of her guard’s said and nodded. “His attitude really irked me. Who does he think he is to order around our lady like that?”
Raea sighed. “Forget it,” she said. “My father sent me here to be a subordinate of his. Even if our ranks may be equal, my status is lower than Captain Ishim’s in this fort. We are no longer in the capital.”
“I will not allow your hands to be dirtied,” the head guard said and crossed his arms over his chest. “When the time comes, I will be the one to give the orders that end the beast’s life.”
Raea wiped her eyes with the back of her hand. “Thank you,” she said and tilted her chin up, “I thank all of you.”
The head guard nodded. “The barracks are this way,” he said. “I will gather the men. You should rest for now. Driving Lady Menyel’s carriage without the key must have exhausted you.”
“Then I will leave you to it,” Raea said while nodding. She turned around and gazed at Ishim’s building. She saw him standing by the second floor’s window, staring at her group. He smirked. Raea murmured, “So this is the borderland, where the sinners roam free.”

The 8th Day
One day life is good. The next day it isn't! The boundaries between... well, whatever they're between.. have shattered! Monsters burst out from cracks in the universe, and reality suddenly begins to function similar to a game -- but not a game that anyone knows all the rules about! Magic is suddenly real, but so are monsters and death! Lots of death! And the worst part of it all? I think we did it to ourselves! We invented video games, and personally I think that great Finger-in-the-Sky picked up a console somewhere and started playing them. Since He liked what he saw, he must've declared, """"On the 8th Day, let there be Game!"But what do I know about it all, really. After all, I'm just """"The Witness"""" forced to observe it all.__________________________________________________________________________Author's Note: There's a lot of tales where characters get stuck in a Virtual Reality. """"Sword Art Online"""", """"Log Horizon"""", """"The Legendary Moonlight Sculptor"""". This is a story told with the premise inverted -- instead of a person from reality going into a virtual world, what would happen if the virtual world instead came to reality?I want this tale to speak about the aspects of the game, as it has affected the current reality, but the focus of the story should never be on the """"reality-turned-game"""" itself, but on the characters and their oh-so-human struggles, personalities, and attempt to adjust and live within the bounds of their new existence. Hopefully this won't just be a story of """"reality turned into a game"""", but instead will be something more meaningful such as a story of the strengths, perseverance, and humanity of man-kind as they try to adapt and face the unknown.*** And, most importantly, I hope everyone enjoys reading it as much as I've enjoyed writing it. ***WARNING: RATED MATURE M[18+] FOR GORE, SEX, VIOLENCE. The apocalypse isn't a pretty place to try to survive in, and neither is every scene in a story trying to describe it.

I'm just an 'Ordinary' Human (MCU fanfic)
A guy gets hit by a truck and sent to a fantasy world with less power than your average peasant. (Un)fortunately, he discovered his secret power of Immortality at the hands of the current destroy-the-world inclined Demon Lord and becomes experimental subject #1. After hundreds of years, the Demon Lord is killed and the job of destruction was handed to him. Being not terribly favorably inclined to this fantasy world, he wreaks havoc on the world... Killing sacred beasts, massacring cities with an army of undead, headhunting servants of God, plaguing a whole continent with a deadly virus. But he was still unsatisfied.During an experiment, he accidentally killed himself trying to open a gateway to a new world. And wakes up from his coma in his original world. Except, it isn't his world, exactly. Now there is a man in a metal suit, a 90-years old buff dude with a shield, a muscle head demi-god and other weirdos who formed a team called the ‘Avengers’. None of that matters though, because he is so over all that drama. This life is going to be carefree. Or at least, that's the plan. Note: The 4th wall is thin on this one, so the MC often breaks it. As this is fanfiction, I will make sure to follow the "Fair use" clause of the Copyright law. Please support this on its original website too, Webnovel.

Dream Dungeon

Those in this dungeon must kill monsters to survive; maybe even each other. Join Ely as he struggles to survive a ruthless environment. What replaces his rest is untold trauma. What seems like an innocent game trope turns into a nightmare. This is a story of tragedy and the path to ultimate power. All in the hopes of an uncertain survival. _________ This fiction has NOT been abandoned. I made a haughty promise earlier to not worry because I'll continue this series, and with things lately, I've only proved myself a liar. Further promises dwindled, and I've lost trust. So many things have been going on recently that I've been booked. I will refrain from making any future guarantees or promises as my busy schedule will stay with me for a long long while. Time for me to actually spend on writing and revising won't appear until at the least November 19. I won't say expect that's when I'll restart, but you can expect expecting it to maybe happen. That's really shallow. But with everything going on, I've let my small reading base down. I apologize. I still stick by my statement though that I won't abandon this project. I plan to stick it to the end, no matter the delay. Most importantly, thank you everyone; readers who both like and dislike my work. I appreciate your time spent on my dumb imagination. Stay toasty my readers in this winter season. Cheers. UPDATE: We're back on track. Thank you for your patience. Any future readers, heyo! Glad you're here. UPDATE 2: So far it's been 21 days since I last uploaded a chapter. The best thing done for any fiction, no matter how good it is, is that it continues, and I have a bad history with that. 1 fiction on hiatus and already more delays with less than 20 chapters in this fiction. I've been very preoccupied with adding more things to do in my life rather than actually committing to any particular thing. That applies primarily to this. I cannot abandon this, as busy as my future looks and will look as I get busier and busier. Someday, I hope, I will be able to sit down and just write. just. write. But for now, I ask for patience. I suppose I'm glad this fiction hasn't picked up so that I don't disappoint too many people if any really. But I need to commit and it's going to happen sometime and sometime soon. No more flowery words. I'll see you later. UPDATE 3: It's very evident I won't be able to pick up this story for a while. With AP Testing, competitions, and other things I am busier than ever. But I must complete this fiction. I have too. Until next time. UPDATE 4: It is now the summer. I owe everyone an apology. Chances are, nobody's around to see this, and that is okay. I only blame myself for this sort of brokenness of a fiction, not that it is actually that bad but I am just exaggerating it for dramatic effect. But what's not exaggerated is the severity of my broken promise. I apologize for my naive claims about finishing a novel that I couldn't finish and that I didn't have the discipline to finish. Nor the skills, really, I was and am still an immature writer. What is to place now? I want to make it clear I understand this is my fault. I will man up to this. And I will accept any criticism. I understand I messed up. Reading Stephen King's On Writing made it clear to me that I need to do two things:Read lots. And write lots.I have done neither. If I don't have the time to read often, how do I expect to write? I need to become more experienced. I need to become a serious writer. So if I want to dream of continuing, I need to at least fulfill both requirements. I enjoy writing. I haven't written seriously outside of school in a while. I planned to write this summer and finish this. I made a lot of promises that I didn't keep.So there's that. I won't enact any self-pity, or be foolishly obsessed. What I did was wrong, and I must deal with it. I let down readers. And I apologize.I hope I can find forgiveness. This is a writer's sin.I won't promise I'll finish this. I intend to finish this, at some point, because writing is fun and I want to write. But how things are don't reflect that. Maybe I'll finish this at some point. Maybe I won't. I won't be naive to make that promise.I thank everyone who has read this if this is the end. If not, and hopefully not, I thank everyone who is to read future chapters. I thank everyone who allowed me to live in the miniscule little dream of mine as I passed my days. I thank everyone who cares enough to read this. Until next time, peace everyone. Thank you. You are all great readers and great people. I wish everyone the best in whatever reading/writing endeavors follow you henceforth.
