《Shovels In Spades》B1: Chapter 18: Court and Motivation
Advertisement
Lord Upgrade Court of Lords Description Naturally, Lords are a civilised group of nobility and like to contest and confer with one another, but a location is needed for such things. Upgrade Allows the Lord to teleport to a separate dimension dedicated solely for Lord-type rulers. Price 10,000 Merit Points 1,000 Base Points
'Hrmm, I think I should buy this... it might be useful to talk to other Lords and find out about other classes and monster types from them... not to mention, how the rest of the world is doing,' Daz thought before he decided to buy this upgrade. 'Purchase Lord upgrade, Court of Lords, please.'
Confirmed. Lord Upgrade [Court of Lords] purchased. The total merit balance of the host is now 168,510. The total balance of the base is now 4000.
'That'll do for now. I'll check out this 'court' later, but for now, let's quickly look at the five other upgrades before I check to see what Lyle had picked for me. No point wasting all of my base points solely on Lord upgrades," Daz pondered before he took a minute to view the five remaining upgrades that had caught his interest.
Lord Upgrade Baronship Description Those that stand above the Lords, but below the rest of nobility. Upgrade Changes a Lord's status to that of a Baron Price 200,000 Merit Points 20,000 Base Points Lord Upgrade Fiefdomnship Description What is a Lord without properly granted land? It is only natural for a Lord to be the owner of a base, but what is more impressive is a Lord who owns a Fiefdom. Upgrade Adds 'Fiefdom' to the bases current base types. Price 100,000 Merit Points 10,000 Base Points Lord Upgrade Territorial Advantage Description Battles are an inevitable part of a Lord's life, so it is only natural that a Lord would fight in an opportune location. Upgrade Grants the Lord's base a territorial boost based on its location. Price 75,000 Merit Points 7,500 Base Points Lord Upgrade Mounting Description What is a Lord without his trusty steed? Only a true Lord has a loyal steed at his command. Upgrade Grants a bonus to the Lord when riding a being classified as a mount. Price 5,000 Merit Points 500 Base Points Lord Upgrade Monarchy Description Naturally, all Lords follow a certain type of Government. A Monarchy is the most optimal Government for those who wish to rule their kingdom alone. Upgrade Allows the Lord to create ten laws that the citizens must follow at all times. Grants access to Ruler battles. Price 1,000,000 Merit Points 100,000 Base Points

'A lot of interesting things, huh? I definitely need to get the Monarchy and Baronship at some point..hrmm... I can probably skip Mounting unless it counts Rimmy as a mount, but I don't think the system does. I guess I'll get Fiefdomship and the Territorial Advantages first when I buy more Lord upgrades,' Daz concluded before he stood up and stretched a bit.
He took a moment to look around at his base. The recycling facility was small, maybe two-hundred meters by one-hundred meters. Although it was small, it still managed to hold eight skip bays, three skips on the ground level, a car park, the bothy and a small trail walk for kids to teach them about the benefits of recycling.
Daz had only worked here for six months, but he was quite fond of the place. It was quiet most of the time except the odd burst of busyness, which Daz liked. He was normally quite lazy due to having no motivation to live really, but now he had changed. The Apocalypse has changed him. Daz smiled before he walked over to Lyle. It was now time to upgrade the base physically.
Lyle noticed his approach and stopped talking to the system before he turned to face Daz, a smile on his expression. "All done? I found four upgrades that I think we desperately need now, while I found two that might be beneficial, but we don't need them. I wasn't sure how many merit points you had, but I gained three thousand for doing nothing today, and just over two thousand for yesterday, so I went on the assumption that you had around fifty thousand points since you've been doing far more than I have."
"Mmm, I have a lot more than that, but that's good. I need to buy more stuff for myself too so that much should do for the base," Daz replied in a far more sociable way than earlier thanks to the fact that he knew Lyle was loyal to him.

Lyle's smile only grew when he knew that his estimate was accurate to the amount Daz was willing to spend. He was very happy to be of help. "Well, this whole 'system' function is fascinating. I'll tell you what upgrades to view now, my Lord," Lyle said, to which Daz cringed a bit, but he chose not to chide Lyle for continuing to call him 'my Lord'.

Incursions
This blurb concerns Incursions book 1: Incarceration. If you could buy superhuman abilities, but they might kill you—or worse—would you do it? Ten years ago, in a world not so different from our own, people with powerful abilities appeared. The new powers were dangerous, dangerous to acquire—dangerous to have—dangerous to wield. World governments raced to find and eradicate the abilities and those who possess them while using the media to rule by fear. Whereas corporations sought to exploit the abilities for profit. Raz Owens was living the dream - a rising star at a job he enjoys, a girlfriend he loves, but it all comes crashing down when Raz disregards his late father's advice. He is pulled into a chaotic underworld of clandestine labs, shadow organizations, and super-powered criminals. Used as a human test subject in a place where few survive the day, he must last long enough to escape. His only advantage? A power that seems nearly useless—a heads-up display. Contains: monsters, violence, death, dismemberment, gamelit, superpowers, superpower consequences, good guys, bad guys, good guys who might be bad guys, bad guys who think they are good guys, good guys that might go bad, bad guys that might turn good, guns for hire, competence, incompetence, continence, incontinence, conspiracies, and some of what I just said wasn't true. This story is written in third person limited POV. That means you can expect to know many of the thoughts and inner dialog of one character, and only see the actions of other characters. This POV does include scenes without the main character, and thus the reader can and will know things the main character does not. Further, this means characters act on what they know, which is almost always less than the reader knows. Something else to know. These books do not hold your hand. If you're reading it and thinking "Gosh, why aren't 'they' doing some 'obvious' thing." Bad news. You probably missed something that explains exactly that. If you're seeking a light read that doesn't ask much of you as the reader, you're invited and very welcome to come on in, but this might not be the story for you.

Giantslayer
Synopsis: Alain is a fledgling Giantslayer, enhanced individuals capable of killing deadly giants. But these giants are not big, they are what ancient humans would refer to as mundane animals or beasts. 'The Final Curse' as many humans call it, was a curse that shrunk down the entire human population to the size of small rodents. When the curse first occurred, the majority of the human population was eaten by beasts who are now of towering heights and sizes. But their abandoned gargantuan structures were not built for naught, the remaining humans retreated back into their now giant buildings and rebuild societies and nations inside of them. Follow Alain in his quest to right the wrongs done to his past and hunt down the elusive and mythical Elder Giants, giants capable of intellects and speech. Are they real? Alain certainly insists so despite no one believing him. But perhaps it did not matter, they were real enough to him for what they did to his family. A/N: I'm pretty new to writing creatively so I hope to improve as we move along the story. The prose I use is still fairly simple and 'plain', but I am also new to literature in general so I am hoping to improve my vocabulary as well. It should also come under no surprise that I am a non-native English speaker and writer as well. With that said, I do appreciate constructive feedback. Please don't be overly mean at least. All the chapters are rough drafts that will be edited in the future. The cover is by this user from pixiv: https://www.pixiv.net/en/users/4545042
