《Foreststorm》Chapter 14 - Evolution?

Ves’ra searched out the shaman first thing in the next morning.
“Ves’ra, what can I do for you?”
“My energy felt strange ever since I ate the wyvern.”
“Strange; what do you mean with that?”
“My energy-veins felt like they full, unable to further contain my energy. Apart from an uneasy feeling and more energy leaving my body it didn't impact me all that much, but yesterday when I ate the boar it seemed like my veins would burst the moment I went to sleep.”
“That doesn't sound good, but I can't help you there, I’ve never had that problem. How did you solve it?”
“I wove my energy into a rope.”
“That does sound like a good solution. I have an idea what happened though, we’ll have to talk to the chieftain.”
“What can I do for the two of you this early?”
“I think Ves’ra needs your advice.”
“How so?”
“I have an idea, but I think she should tell you herself, I don't want to influence your opinion.”
“Oh, that does sound interesting, do tell Ves’ra.”
“My energy veins were about to burst before I went to sleep yesterday, I only managed to stop it by weaving my energy into a rope.”
“That does sound like it yes, can you tell her band she won't be hunting today, we have much to talk about.”
“Sure; was I right? Did she stop her evolution?”
“You were.”
“I was about to evolve?” She asked, shocked.
“It does sound a lot like my evolution, so yes I'm pretty sure you were.”
“So I shouldn't have stopped it?”
“Not necessarily, evolutions can be both good and bad. You are young, so your life couldn't really influence how you evolve too much, so it’s probably a good thing.”

“So energy is tied to evolution?”
“More than that, once you amass enough total energy it will infuse your body and change your very essence. You will effectively be a child again, and slowly grow into your new form.”
“So can I do anything to affect my evolution?”
“You can, and before you ask, no I don't know how. I went to sleep and woke a different kobold.”
“So I shouldn't try to stop it the next time my veins feel like bursting again?”
“That's on you, but I don't think it would hurt you. You should make sure to get a familiar before you evolve though, I wasn't able to get one before I evolved and that's not something you want to give up on.”
“Thanks and bye chief, I’ll go out and hunt something.”
“Yeah, you do that, have fun.”
“Thanks.” She cried cheerfully.
Their talk took a sixth of a day, so she had most of the day free to do more stuff for herself. She promised the chief something to eat, so she decided to go out hunting and try to kill something with her lightning. She would have to get really close for that, so the hunt would serve a dual purpose. She would also have to find an animal or monster baby to serve as her familiar, it was best to start building trust as early as possible - she didn't know how long she would take to evolve again - so it was best to start the search now.
She’d try to find a lynx or something, she really didn't like wolves and birds were not strong enough. It would prove tricky, but she was sure she’d manage. She would check the wyvern’s nest too, perhaps she was lucky and it left some eggs behind.

She didn't find any worthwhile prey before midday passed, not really surprising as chieftain and shaman killed everything dangerous near their village. She would have to settle for something weaker on the way back.
Ves’ra slowly inched forwards - taking extensive care not to be noticed. She could see her target only ten steps in front of her, an old deer that had a small limp. Animals tasted better the older they were, at least while still fresh. She split her focus, one half was still cautiously approaching her prey while other created a sphere of energy - now shining with a definitive yellow tinged blue compared to the pale blue of winter.
She made sure the sphere was as big as possible, hidden by the deep grass. She needed another few breaths to get in range, but she could already cast her spell. That was one of the most useful things the shaman taught her, though it only really worked with magic that didn't have a physical component. She could enchant parts of her body with her spells and connect them to her mind, enabling her to cast spells with but a thought.
By the time she was in range of her spell all her limbs were shaking in exhaustion, moving as careful as she had was way more exhausting than sprinting across the clearing several times.
Ves’ra directing a thought into her left arm, commanding the stored spell to leave at her claw and hit the deer’s head. Lightning left her with a loud crack, arcing towards the deer and solidly connecting to its head. The deer jumped upwards as it was hit, twitching a few times after falling down. The herd of deer vanished in the forest, startled by the noise and death of the old deer.

The Ordinary Life of Tom Nobody
[participant in the 2018 NaNoWriMo Royal Road challenge] The Ordinary Life of Tom Nobody is a LitRPG system story where each person transitions into the system, or SCHEMA as this system is known, innocent and unaware of his former life. Following the tutorial, memories return, but by this point, each person has a better chance of accepting their new world. It also gives them an opportunity to start from scratch, fresh without all the baggage of their former lives dictating their decisions in the early stages of the process. I don’t expect this will necessarily turn into an action-packed heroic tale, my intent is to create a character who wants to have just an ordinary, but reasonably comfortable life. I don’t know myself how well he will succeed, there may be twists and Tom may discover some heroism hidden deep inside. I guess we’ll find out together. This is my first writing attempt. I’ve wanted to write all my life, but I’ve never been able to develop the proper discipline to put in the work. I hope I complete the challenge and work my way past this hump. I am writing this as part of the NaNoWriMo Royal Road Challenge. While I will try to self-edit as I go, the challenge requires close to 2,000 words a day, so parts of the story may be rough, and things like plot lines may not make as much sense as any of us would like. If all goes well, and I complete the challenge, I plan on going back through everything and trying to polish it up. In the meanwhile, thank you for reading and I hope I don’t disappoint.

Drakon the Necrolord v2
Rewrite of my novel Drakon the Necrolord. 100 thousand years ago the system apocalypse began and all of the known worlds with sentient life in the universe got merged together forming a super planet. Orcs elves humans dwarves and hundreds of other species now living on one planet. These are the memoirs of one of them. Written with the help of the AI in his head and a little help from his friends. As a note: I have tons of worldbuilding done (probably way more than needed, as that was why the rewrites took so long. Depending on the reception here I might do more stories in the same universe and/or build a wiki with all my worldbuilding stuff.
