《Cyber Samurai - A Cyberpunk LitRPG》Chapter 22 - A New Quest

Marcus and Kat stepped out of the office, leaving Damien to face off against the black-eyed man across the table. He didn’t want to admit it, but a part of him wished that he wouldn’t be left alone with this strange person, and the dull silence that followed the departure of his companions only added to his unease.
An uncomfortable minute passed before Zero finally began to speak. “I understand that you are in a unique situation.”
Damien narrowed his eyes in response to the vague statement. What exactly was that supposed to mean? The bald man across the table clearly knew something about him that others didn’t, but how far did that knowledge go? Maybe this person was the key that could tie everything together. He decided that a forthright approach would be the best.
“You seem to know a lot about what’s going around here.” Damien said. “Do you know how I ended up in this place, and why I don’t have any memories?”
Zero responded with the same drab demeanor he’d held throughout the meeting. “I do not have answers to those questions. I may know a lot about your circumstances and those of your acquaintances, but I do not see everything that happens.”
“And how did you learn all of this?”
“I can not reveal that information.” Zero said in his unchanging, deep voice. “I understand that your personal data does not exist within any database. This is an exceptional situation, and it leaves you in a difficult position.”
So he knows about that too, huh? Damien thought. Even Marcus had mentioned how that could be a problem.
“Your situation may disadvantage you in some ways,” Zero continued, “but it also comes with opportunities that you would be wise to take advantage of.”

“And what might those opportunities be?” Damien asked.
“There are many within the elite rings of society that could use the services of a data-less tool. One that can not be tracked or traced back to them.”
Damien said nothing, choosing to ignore irritation that came with being referred to as a tool.
Zero reached under the desk then placed a small, silver disk on the counter between them. He then returned his fingers to the arched position they had been, his every motion slow and deliberate.
“What is it?” Damien asked.
“It contains the information of an acquaintance of mine. She provides a variety of services to exclusive clients within the ruling class. Private hires are among her most lucrative services. Elite private hires are few, and they are extremely valued, particularly if they have an untraceable past. If your skills are sufficient, the rewards will be plenty.”
Damien stared at the disc. “And what is it that I would be doing?”
“Private hires perform a variety of duties depending on the client’s needs. They may range from protection, to procurement of goods, to bounty hunting of corporate rivals. My acquaintance will provide further details should you choose to accept the opportunity. She resides not far from here, and that disc will provide her precise location. Present it to one of her employees, and she will see you right away.”
After contemplating the decision for a moment, Damien reached over and palmed the silver disk in his hand, causing a window to pop up before him.

Our Goddess
Akari Mamori is a huge fan of Shintoism, from its modern practice to its ancient legends. As much as she’d love for those fantastical myths to be true, Akari doesn’t put too much stock in stories of gods and spirits with human-like forms and magical powers. Until she meets a genuine goddess and gets recruited into her harem! Rated Mature for a lesbian polyamorous harem, periodic nudity, and occasional sexy times! (no explicit on-screen sex at this time)

Polly and Drake
Drake has been searching for a job as a personal guard, but wherever he turns, he is kicked out without fail. It's not that he's terrible with weapons, or inattentive. It could be because of his obvious racial heritage. Or because of Polly. With his funds dwindling, the only remaining option is to become one of the Cursed: poor souls that work for the Dragoneye Guild. In other lands, they may be called adventurers, saviors or even heroes, but not in the White Desert. Here, they are shunned and ignored. Depraved people who forsook their humanity for money and fame. With this choice, Drake may not only fall from grace, but also become one of only a few thousands capable of unearthing the secrets of ancient times. If he could get this guardsman notion out of his head. May contain gore, violence, profanity and traumatising content. Taking another shoot at this writing business. I write for fun and when I have time. There is no plan. The story may change drastically from what it starts out - or not. We'll see what happens. Currently, I'm aiming for a Slice of Life with LitRPG elements at a later time.

The Last Marshal
Weird West Fantasy Noir Once the Republic Marshals brought order to the chaotic lands along the Frontier, facing dangers both human and supernatural with ancient wisdom and a six-gun —but that was a long time ago. Destroyed by conspiracy and betrayal, all that remains of that secretive order is one nameless man on a trek though the West seeking revenge on the woman he blames for the Marshals' fall and his disgrace. When a visitor from our world joins him on his journey, they together must confront the horrors of a strange land, the mysteries of the past and the real meaning of their quest for justice. The world of Tellus is what 19th Century Earth would have looked like if the stories of Poe, Ambrose Bierce, Lovecraft and William Hope Hodgeson were real. History in this world moves slower. The old faiths persist and civilization never conquered the dark corners of the map, at least not without being inextricably changed. Technology and culture takes a little longer to evolve in this land, as people here tend to spend more time pursuing their elaborate revenge plots or trying to avoid being the next sacrifice to the Outer Gods rather than advancing science or statecraft. Imagine Cormac McCarthy by way of Edgar Rice Burroughs, though a little less testosterone-drenched than that description would imply. Three caveats: First, there are deep mysteries here, including how such a world came to be and who controls it. Second, this world is not wholly unconnected from our own. There is a historical point of divergence, but in the distant past. To paraphrase Twain: history in this world is not a repeat of our own, but it does often rhyme. And finally, this is not a setting that lends itself to happy endings.
