Chapter 40
Heroic Bloodshed 9
-:-
Theo and Juno silently traversed the new alleyways in order for them to reach their new objective.
Unlike their earlier rampage, they made sure to stick to the shadows and move as quietly as possible.
With Theo at the front, the duo excited the small alleyway and dove for cover behind a car where they hid for a few minutes.
About 20 meters away from them was a battle between some Triads and some of their cultivator allies against the Mob, the locally grown criminal organization of the Commonwealth.
Despite having the relatively superhuman cultivators and outnumbering the Mob, the Mob was winning this battle due to superior technological might in the form a M1 Abrams AKA a TANK!
Their tempered bodies that absorbed the cosmic energies was instantly turned into minced meat when faced against a barrage of .50 caliber M2HB heavy machine gun rounds
And nothing was left of said cultivators foolishly used their martial arts to block the Rheinmetall 120 mm smoothborne tank gun.
Theo and Juno desperately held in their laughter as they watched the Triads systematically grinded into the dust.
After the Triads began to retreat and the Mob pressed their advantage, the duo moved from their hiding path and stealthily ran into another alleyway.
For the next 5 minutes, the duo passed through multiple flashpoints without murdering a single individual.
Quite an impressive feat given how bloodthirsty everyone was at the moment.
You couldn’t walk a single step without hearing a chorus of gunfire and explosions in the background.
A very festive vibe Hellhole was at tonight.
The duo’s destination was a chop shop used to ‘refurbish’ stolen cars.
They chose this particular chop shop because it belonged to the Shigetsu Clan.
If they were going to steal from thieves, they might as well steal from those who they already have open conflict with.
As they walked in, particularly big half naked Yakuza wielding a katana step forward.
“So you think you can just walk in to Shigetsu turf and-” said the Yakuza before he could clearly get a glimpse of the duo.
But when they stepped into the well-lighted garage, the Yakuza could visually be seen questioning his life choices.
“I-I …. Oh my god… Shit… Listen! I personally have nothing against you, okay? Just take wha-“ said the Yakuza before Juno cut his head off.
The 4 remaining employees made themselves as small as possible, as if hoping that the duo would gloss them over.

Theo ran a facial recognition on all of them.
3 of the 4 were petty criminals such as video game piracy or possession of child pornography.
Quite a hilarious bunch.
Especially the guy that has child porn.
The last one however was a whole different matter.
“Victoria. Choose a car and make child porn boy there give you the key” said Theo to Juno.
Naturally, this shocked the employees.
How could Theo possibly know about child porn guy’s crime?
While Juno wordlessly ‘convinced’ child porn boy to do her bidding, Theo turned to the last employee, which was surprisingly a woman
“Mako Kirayama?” asked Theo to the employee, which nodded out of fear. “For the crime for the rape and murder of 5 young boys, I sentence you to death.”
Before the female yakuza could beg for mercy, Theo shot her in the head with his ARX160 rifle.
From there on out, it was smooth sailing.
The car Juno chose was a carbon black Nissan GT-R.
It was an expensive and fancy car complete with computer based engine monitoring system and a nitro.
It was also fully gassed up curtesy of child porn boy.
It was a shame that they’ll be discarding it in the near future.
Oh well.
With Juno on the driver’s seat, the two of them drove quickly through the chaotic streets of Hellhole.
The main reason why Theo wasn’t driving was because Juno was horrible accuracy with guns. And this was when she was standing stationary with a target that doesn’t move.
As much as Theo wanted to drive the GT-R, he had no choice but to put self defense before swag.
Thanks to the car’s powerful engine and Juno’s traumatizingly fast driving, the duo was able to exit Hellhole and enter the highway in 10 minutes.
This was also in part due to everyone in Hellhole district being too busy fighting for their lives to care about the duo
All they needed to do now was to drive to a specific man hole near the scrap yard and they were home free.
As mentioned many times before, Vermilion City’s sewer system was a massive maze that has claimed many lives.
Theo has mapped some of the area near the scrap yard, thus he was confident that he could lead Juno to safety.
As they entered the highway, Theo received a call from his frog faced doctor friend.
“Hey Doc. What’s up?”
“Kid… my god… I knew you were a smart lad with questionable sanity, but I didn’t think that you and that maid of yours would, or could, forcefully start a massive gang war.” said the Doctor

“Not bad huh. I was a bit worried that we didn’t start a strong enough spark, but the criminal’s inability to trust others prevailed in the end.” Replied Theo as he watched the chaos outside the window.
“Do you have any idea how many people have died just this evening?”
“I didn’t keep count but it should be in the few hundreds. Hopefully it will reach the thousand mark in the coming months before the crime bosses force peace down everyone’s throat.”
“*sigh*… that’s going to be a lot of work for underground doctors like me…”
“More money for you. I say it’s a blessing. By the way, have you evacuated?”
“No need. My clinic and the entire building was built with fireproof and bulletproof materials. It’s also has some magic warding on it so-” said the doctor but was interrupted when an earsplitting roar echoed through Hellhole.
A massive 30 meter tall flaming humanoid bull with 6 arms each wielding different weapons appeared the middle of Hellhole.
“On second thought, I’ll be leaving ASAP. Talk to you later kid. Damn those cultivator bastards!” said the doctor before the line went dead.
“What the hell?” asked Theo to no one as he stared at the giant
“It’s a Taoist based demon summoning normally used by cultivators. The Jade Empire has a bad habit of corrupting whatever it touches. Taoism at its core was supposed to be about harmony…. Yet modern cultivators use it to summon demons. Quite ironic really” said Juno, much to Theo’s surprise.
“Ho. You seem to know a lot about cultivators.” Replied Theo.
“It’s easy to pick up stuff when you hang around with someone like Nichola. She has developed a few weapons specifically to counter Taoist based demon summoning.”
“Wow… Maybe I should ask Nichola for some tips.”
Suddenly, more earsplitting roars shook the air.
3 more massive titans appeared out of nowhere and began fighting with each other.
Theo made a mental note that he needed to make countermeasures to defeat such giants.
“Oh? A With Doctor’s Undead Behemoth, Norsca’s Frost Giant and the Alchema’s Blood Golem. Well… I guess Hellhole district will be a parking lot tomorrow. Too bad. It’s such a fun place.” Said Juno with a bit of melancholy in her voice.
“Don’t worry. That’s not going to happen as long as Superheroes are around”
Large number of helicopters entered Hellhole and began dropping a colorful assortment of costume clad beings.
Some flew towards the giants and began beating the shit out of them.
Others went for the many criminals and began pacifying them.
Sadly, Vermilion City had no active Superhero above B Rank.
This was because most A to S rank heroes often stayed on their hometown
To cancel this out, Vermilion City boasted one of the largest concentration of Superheroes in the Commonwealth
While Vermilion City lacked in quality heroes, they had a lot of quantity.
As such, it might take a bit of time for them to bring the situation under control.
“Aww… looks like your 1000 criminal casualty goal is going to fall short” said Juno
“Not necessarily. As long as the animosity between the gangs exists, they’ll find ways to kill each other in a more low key manner.” Replied Theo as he checked his guns.
“I see. But still, I kind of want to join in the fun. While our earlier escapades were indeed satisfying, I cant help but feel our silent exit is very anti climactic.”
“That’s not true at all. We have one last battle on our hands.” Said Theo as he pointed at the thing that was rampaging in middle of the elevated highway that they would be passing under.
There was a 5 meter tall humanoid with deep red skin and long horns that was playing whack-the-mole with every car in his reach.
“Oh my. A low level Oni? I guess that’s okay, but you know that we easily bypass it, right?” said Juno in contrast to her blood thirsty smile.
“Yes we can, but odds are, that is probably from the Shigetsu Clan. So technically speaking, if we let it be, all of the innocent deaths would be criminal negligence on our part”
“I see. If you say so.” Replied Juno with a clear disinterest to the potential innocent deaths.
“And besides, I bet you’ll pout if we do sneak past it.”
“HAHAHAHAHA! I see that you have a very good understanding of me given our short time together! Very well my darling, what is your desire?”
“Let’s go Oni hunting.”
“Your command is my wish”

A Prose of Years
For decades, spiritualist Evert Kallstrom and his team have joined in humanity’s millennia-long fight against the beasts. Wielding their weapons and their ki, they fought and killed these great threats to civilization. And yet, despite their efforts, humanity was losing traction in the war. In the last fifty years alone, more cities had been overrun than in all of known history. While most thought the great beasts natural, a few knew the terrible truth. They were the product of a dark lord, who desired neither fame nor wealth nor power. Instead, his sole purpose was the genocide of humanity. While their peers dithered, a small faction of the strongest mankind had to offer—including Evert Kallstrom and his team—set out towards the Deadlands to find and confront this dark lord. After weeks of travel, twenty-one spiritualists found themselves approaching an ancient fortress wherein rested a being known only as the Eastern Guardian. All they found was death. But death has other plans for Evert. Evert bolts awake in his 16 year old body near his hometown, decades in the past. He is confused, poor and weak. But with grit, sweat, and years of experience, he won't let the future repeat itself. That level of strength won't be enough by itself (it wasn’t last time) and victory is hardly assured (he’ll need to reach farther and higher than he ever did), but Evert refuses to squander a second chance. [Other tags: First Person POV, Hard Magic, Faulty Memory] Volume 1 is complete and has been fully released. My current intention is not to write any sequel volumes. That said, I have also released appendices (SPOILERS) that cover the worldbuilding and future story-that-never-was. Comments suggesting fixes for grammar, misspellings, etc. appreciated. Note: If you came here from Candlelit Lives, these stories have nothing in common.

Their lives now depend on his completing the Challenge and ranking in the top 500. But the odds are stacked against him, and he was a better operator than a swordsman. Chapters released Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 12:30 Warning: After Chapter 11, the MC undergoes a significant change of class and race. This is due to a couple of factors. The first is that when the MC was created, James didn't know what he was doing, so he picked what he thought would work. The second reason is that he had access to more information to game the system a little. The premise is like when you buy a new video game and decide to play it without RTFM. After creating a great character and making it to the end of the first act, you realize that, although your character may be kewl, it is gimped and will not survive until the end of the game. Going back to the start, you create a new character with the knowledge you gained from playing the game and perhaps, peeking at the manual.
