--------------------------------------
Soon the day of the competition arrived and the five fatties made their way to a fighting stage with stand around it. It wasn’t too elegant. After all, they were mere Qi Gathering Disciples. But still, he noticed what looked like a granite disk, the size of a car, floating above the arena. There were quite a few of the senior outer disciples observing though. Zhen Ji and his two flunkies had reached a couple of minutes after Fang Hao.
Zhen Ji scanned the crowd, and it didn’t take long for him to find the five dumplings. He sent a hostile glare their way and was walking towards the fatties. He sneered as he said, “Fang Hao, I will beat you up so much that your face will become more swollen than it already is!” Fang Hao mocked him in a grave scholarly manner, “Clearly you weren’t taught to respect your elders. Looks like Martial Uncle Zhu’s lesson last time, was insufficient. No matter, I will thoroughly discipline you if karma permits it.”
Hearing Fang Hao’s retort, Zhen ji’s face visibly flushed in anger as he gritted out, “You…just…wait.” and walked away from him. Fatty Hai frowned as he inquired, “Brother Hao, why does he have a hard-on for you? You never provoked him. And if he was upset about missing the chicken duty, shouldn’t he be angry on all of us? Does he think I am a coward just because I am still at the 3rd layer of Qi gathering?” Fang Hao shrugged and replied, “I don’t know… but if that arrogant prick provokes this daddy here, he will be surely taught a lesson!” Fatty Ning coughed as he said, “Brother Fang, although we are supposed to be hot blooded, but shouldn’t you be more restrained? His brother is a core disciple after all.”

Fang Hao sighed as he said “It is not like I have a life and death grudge by him. He is a bully, and if I show any weakness…he will be back to harass us more. As for his brother… that’s out of my hands for now, and he can’t go too overboard if he has to maintain face in our sect. Remember, if they had significant background in the sect, he could have done far worse than just pump his little brother to the 6th layer with resources. If he had an elder for a blood relative who was vicious enough… I would probably be dead by now.”
Fatty Lin nodded and said, “Yeah you are probably right. After all, Old Man Zhu is still fine… so Zhen Ji’s brother probably doesn’t have too much influence. Old Man Zhu couldn’t establish his foundation before 50 after all… and even an average core disciple should hold much more influence than someone like Old man Zhu. Although, his brother did behave like a retard and may have caused him significant headaches. If I talked to my grand uncle, who is still a minor steward, in my family that way…I would have been whipped until tender!”
Fang Hao nodded outwardly, but in his heart disagreed. ‘In the cultivation world, might makes right! Otherwise, why would a middle aged inner disciple call a core disciple half his age senior? This Old Man Zhu isn’t as simple as others make him out to be. These wealthy brats from the mortal world still haven’t adapted here… not too surprising as we had barely any exposure to ruthlessness till now.’ Fang Hao’s musings were interrupted by Old Man Zhu’s voice, which sounded unnaturally loud.
“Attention disciples! Welcome to the preliminary phase of the small annual completion for new outer disciples! First of all the rules: No Killing, No permanent crippling. Any weapons you use, will have to be provided by us. Although you can break bones if you can. Those can be healed quite easily. Ask Zhen Ji, he has personal experience.” A chuckle ran through the spectating crowd at this jab. News of his antics had long since spread on this peak.

“That magic talisman floating there will record all the matches and it may be viewed by your seniors…so put up a good entertaining fight! Who knows? You may end you catching the eye of an elder! Although to tell you the truth, the chance of finding a diamond in the pigsty is higher. The winner here will have a chance to compete with winners of other outer hall mountain peaks in a month or so. And let me tell you, winning there has some definite prizes!”
He then flicked his sleeve and a Cauldron appeared above his head. What look like small golf balls whizzed out of the cauldron and touched each of the participant’s forehead. They now had a shining silver number engraved on the center of their forehead. Fang Hao touched his forehead and felt a faint “1” embossed on it. After things settled down for a bit, “There are exactly thirty-two of you whelps. So that makes things much neater. Number 1 will fight Number 32, number 2 will fight number 31 and so on till there are 16 winners. It will continue until only one of you is remaining.”
Old man Zhu then flipped both of his sleeves simultaneously. Fang Hao suddenly felt his feet leave the ground as he floated to the raised fighting stage. He looked at his opponent and noticed that it was Zhen Ji, who had a confident smug on his face. Clearly, he was confident about thrashing Fang Hao’s fat ass off the stage. ‘Old Man Zhu must have definitely done that on purpose’ thought Fang Hao as he attempted to crack his knuckles…but no sound came. Old Man Zhu said, “You two select which weapon, if any, you want. It will only be of wood from the mortal world, though.”
Zhen Ji said, somewhat humbly, “Senior, this junior requests a long sword.” Fang Hao cupped his hands to Old Man Zhu and said, “Martial uncle Wu, this junior requests a sturdy club, no longer than my arm, and no shorter than my forearm.” Old Man Zhu nodded, as the requested weapons whizzed towards them. They grabbed their weapons and readied themselves for a fight, as Old Man Zhu said, “Ready? Then fight!”

Will was a normal guy in his mid twenties, living in small town America. He was relatively aimless. Then he got struck by lightning. Waking up reminded him why falling asleep in strange places had stopped being a pleasant adventure for the next day, years before. Then, the crazy started. Life would never be the same, but he wasn't aimless anymore. Plus, you know, super powers are cool. Warning: There will be swearing and casual conversation about subjects that might have some people clutching their pearls. There will be dirty jokes. There will not be graphic depictions of sexual activity, or harem shenanigans, as I'm making my mother read this. That would be very uncomfortable.
