The return transport wasn’t arranged by Senior Lombre, the old Granny Cultivator instead used a magic tool which looked like a giant rotating plate made out of interlocking leaves. It pretty much looked like a flying saucer made out of leaves. The journey took noticeably longer and was far less comfortable. When Fang Hao reached his courtyard, the first thing he did was check his status.

‘Over 200 xp gained this time from the brawling tournament. Not Bad! I can get almost 40xp on spirit chicken slaughter per week, and this tournament can give me 200xp as long as I reach the 4th place. However, xp may differ for different formats. I need 77more xp to level up. I think I can manage to level up with 2 weeks of chicken slaughter.’
Fang Hao then decided that as long as he was close to leveling up, he would refrain from going to the arena. After all if he was spectacularly breaking through time after time while fighting, it would attract too much unnecessary attention. The next day, he paid his respects to Master Zhu as he informed him about his token id. As expected within two weeks, he broke through to the 5th layer of Qi Gathering Realm. He then resumed fighting in the arena as much as he could.

His nickname of ‘Lord Lard’ had become quite widespread within a month or so. With the new source of xp from the arena, he was falling behind in cultivating the Divine Vajra Body Scripture. With the regular visits to the arena, eh also encountered two other types of matches, free-for-all and team matches. Due to his reputation of sitting and slapping on enemies, he was usually the target of multiple people in free-for all tournaments.
Still, his superior stamina and recovery allowed him to keep on running to tire out his opponents. He would usually be in the top 10 earning around 1100 to 300xp per free-for all. As for team matches, it had many different variations. One was where randomly selected teams fought all at once. Here he was at a disadvantage, since sometimes even some of his allies wanted to beat the fatty known as Lord Lard for humiliating them.
Another variation was where there would be 1 vs 1 match between members of competing team. It was similar to the individual elimination match, except that the team with most wins won. This provided him around 200 to 250 xp. Another variation of the team battles was where it would be on endurance of the participants instead of elimination. Here one team member would keep on fighting his opponents till he lost consciousness or gave up. The team with the last man standing would win. This was by far the most beneficial for him. He would usually manage around 250 to 400xp per team battle of this type. On an average, he was assured around 250 xp per week with the combination of chicken slaughtering and arena matches.
After around four months from his first arena fight, Fang Hao had reached the 6th layer of Qi Gathering Realm. Fighting regularly in the arena had hugely boosted his leveling speed. It took him another couple of months to master the 5th step of the Divine Vajra Body Scripture. He estimated that at the rate which he was gaining xp, he would, require another 6 weeks or so to breakthrough to the 7th layer, if he continued going to the arena regularly. When he had around 100 xp left for a breakthrough, he got the next three layers of the Sublime Qi Manual from his master.

Even though his speed of cultivation was quite good due to the added xp from the arena, it wasn’t too shocking. He purposefully refrained from spending his fasting pills, as there was nothing useful he could get from it, apart from the occasional intel. His clique assumed that he was using the fasting pills he won in his regular arena matches was used to quickly upgrade through the Qi gathering realm. He neither confirmed nor denied their questions, further causing them to become concerned and advising him about hidden dangers of unstable cultivation base and pill toxicity.
They were becoming a bit too inquisitive, so he finally disclosed the matter of hi accepting Old Man Zhu as his master and his regular intake of spirit wine. He mentioned that his master had promised to help him breakthrough to the Qi Condensation stage and that quickly reaching the peak of Qi gathering with the combination of fasting pills and cheap spirit wine would be for the best in the long term. He claimed that after reaching QI condensation before 25, he would take a while to stabilize his cultivation base.
When he disclosed the matter of Old Man Zhu as his master; his conditions of regular spirit wine and help to break through the Qi Condensation stage… he could make out expressions consisting of equal parts of pity, jealousy and joy. Of course, accepting a washout QI Condensation Senior who managed Outer Disciples was sacrificing a chance to accept a master who was potentially a lot more powerful. Still the biggest hurdle they faced was advancing to the Qi Condensation stage! And they obviously hoped for some benefits if Fang Hao reached the Qi Condensation realm before them.
But Fang Hao had too many fasting pills and no idea what to do with them. So he decided to give a couple of fasting pills to each fatty of his clique. These pills were trash to him anyway, and it helped getting quite a bit of good will from his clique. He advised them not to use it recklessly like he did to advance in gathering, but to hoard the fasting pills for breakthrough to Qi Condensation since they didn’t have a generous master like Old man Zhu. Around the time he completed his second year at the Jade pagoda Sect, Fang Hao managed to reach the 7th layer Qi Gathering Realm and master the 6th step of the Divine Vajra Body Scripture.
‘I am 16, in this life. Two years to reach the 7th layer of Qi Gathering Realm. Not bad. Although my speed is near the top…it isn’t heaven defying yet. Still my clique will soon spread the gossip about regular spirit wine and fasting pill consumption as the reason for my cultivation speed. I could be faster in cultivating the Divine Vajra Body Scripture…but I am being too greedy I guess. Besides, the more Qi I have, the more times I can practice it. Let me see my status. It has been a while since I did that!’

‘Nice Stats! While I may not be unrivaled under Qi Condensation…I am pretty close to it. I am confident that my stats beat almost everyone who is below the Qi Condensation stage…Still I shouldn’t get too full of myself. Forget seniors, I can’t even beat the swarthy turtle, who is at the 8th layer of Qi Gathering realm without exposing my superior physique…’
