《Approaching Ascension (Book 1) [Hiatus before Book 2]》Chapter 049

'I am still not sure about how rewarding the non-lethal arena is for Qi Condensation disciples. So I need alternate jobs..and it looks like most jobs can only be done once a week unless the job overseer gives you special permission. Hmm in the safe zone, other assignments which don't require constant full-time care I could also take the spirit beast slaughtering job. Tri horned spirit goats have the strength and speed of an average peak Qi gathering cultivator and no innate abilities. Should be easy enough to butcher. One butchering gives 20 contribution points...which includes catching the beast, killing it and dressing the meat. Worst case scenario, I can only butcher one per week that can also earn around 1000 contribution points per year.'
'Looks like around 2200 contribution points per year can be earned well enough. That along with the constant spirit wine and non-lethal arena rewards should tide me over for a while. My aim is to upgrade Aura Infusion to the next level and the three basic Qi spells to at least the Expert level and buy at least one good defensive magic tool and one spell to hinder the mobility of my opponents. The way I see it, I can do more damage with an Aura Infused close combat attack than long ranged spells.'
'And Aura Infusion also makes me reasonably faster...but not as fast as those using agility techniques. So a good encumbering spell to slow down opponents while I have my defensive magic tool so as to survive the barrage from their talismans and spells till I close the distance. That combined with Aura Infusion's boost to speed and attack should should be able to handle most cultivators at my level. Oh and I should buy a god iron sledgehammer and club. Apparently one contribution point is valued at roughly 25 fasting pills. So I can expect a good mortal weapon for a few contribution points. Deadline for Foundation establishment is 50 years of age. I have around 33 years+ to breakthrough to Foundation Establishment. Once my initial spells/magic tools are set. I can rack in the xp relatively easily in the non-lethal arena. But I guess for the first couple of years I will have to struggle to get enough points for new spells and magic tools. Later on, I can earn more contribution points to buy additional resources when the spirit wine's potency isn't so useful for cultivation anymore...'

Having made up a road-map for his cultivation progress in the near future, Fang Hao started to prepare for his xp farming at he arena. He still had the set of mortal armor from his Qi Gathering days, and he then spent around five contribution points to buy a sturdy steel sledgehammer and an iron club. With that he had mortal armor, a one-handed and a two-handed weapon. He reckoned they wouldn't be useful for too long...but hey beggars can't be choosers. And he was incredibly short on contribution points for now.
Fang Hao then applied for the spirit field ploughing and tri-horned spirit goat butchering jobs. The spirit field ploughing job was quite simple for him actually. Each disciple had to till an acre's worth of spirit field within two hours. But these fields weren't normal. The spirit field had soil which was quite hard and it had a lot of rocks and weeds which needed to be cleared before spirit grains could be planted. They were given a kind of hoe shaped magic tool which was enough to till the spirit soil but not enough to break the rocks. It was basically a glorified laborer's job.
Of course Qi Condensation cultivators could use their Qi to amplify the hoe shaped magic tool's efficiency...but they would soon exhaust their Qi before completing it. So generally most of the disciples attempting this task had some form of body refining to support the effort, even if it wasn't their main focus. Indeed Fang Hao noticed that quite a few disciples had additional cultivation paths other than the orthodox Qi cultivation.
Fang Hao made excellent use of his Expert level Aura Infusion spell to clear the ploughing task. Instead of using his Qi to supplement the hoe shaped magic tool, he sued his Qi to enhance his physical strength and speed and used the hoe shaped magic took as an ordinary hoe. Using Aura infusion to boost his physical characteristics was much more efficient that using the same Qi on the hoe shaped magic tool. It also had the added benefit of training his Aura Infusion spell. However, in spite all this, his first time ploughing the spirit field, he barely managed to finish his 1 acre and had exhausted his Qi long before he could complete the ploughing. Fortunately his first seal provided him excellent endurance and stamina recovery and he managed to persevere through sheer physical effort. The job wasn't as easy as expected but still doable.

His second chosen job of butchering spirit goats was a success too. However, he wasn't handed spirit goats and told to butcher them. No, he had to go to a contained mountain peak and catch the tri-horned spirit goat, kill it then transport its carcass to the foot of the mountain and butcher it there. The time limit for that job was two hours, and his first time doing that was sloppy. The goats were smart and ran away form him quickly. He had wasted almost half an hour chasing one of the goats but it would always manage to evade his grasp.
It was simply more familiar with the territory. Fang Hao had to resort to using the wooden sword shaped magic tool to release a series of wind blades to kill the fleeing goat. He would then dump the carcass in his storage pouch and sloppily butcher it at the slaughter house near the base of the mountain. Of course, all the offal the sect didn't require to be butchered, he pocketed it. But still this job made him feel depressed somewhat. He was proud of his body cultivation, but he couldn't even catch a fucking goat without the help of his sect provided magic tool. That alone highlighted the importance of good equipment!

Ps. There are game elements here Disclaimers and warnings: - This story uses clichés. Like, lots of it. - I am not a native English speaker, so my grammar may not be best (It actually is pretty horrible). First 80 or so chapters are a true butchery for eyes and I admit it. Shouldn’t I correct them then? I should. Why am I not doing it? Who knows. Maybe one day I will. - This story is pretty much an experiment. I try different perspectives, different styles, I can make some random Deus-ex-machina if I would consider that I made mistake in the story and decide to change it. - This story is written for pure fun, if you expect some mind-blowing plots and conspiracy of top-level authors – then you will be most likely disappointed. - Easter eggs. Easters eggs everywhere. Every now and then you will be able to spot single events, characters and lines of text that belong in different stories/mangas/movies/books and such. The story is written for you and WITH YOU. If you have any suggestions, events, characters, skills, class… ANYTHING… you wish to see, please – tell me. Era: Dawn of the New Gods
Concise Synopsis: This is a post-apocalyptic story about the origins of various powerful figures that appeared after the apocalypse event. During the apocalypse monsters appeared possessing powers and constitution beyond the limits of human understanding. They ravaged the world and brought down all governments. The first part of the story follows Jade, a terrorist that was ravaging the world before the monsters arrived. Dramatic Synopsis: The New Gods, the most feared and revered beings on the planet. They are forces capable of absolute destruction and creation. The Council of Branches Hayley, the Living Lie (if that is her real name) Chao Feng, the Prince of Stars Lara, the Mother of Heroes The Great City of Tver Gog, the Ever Losing War The Unkillable Freak Dave, the Flow Demon Avatari, (only the name is known) Satoshi, the Gentle Hurricane As Impactful as they are no one knew their origin, they are called the New Gods so there must be Old Gods. I and my collegues dedicated our lives to finding their origins only to find out that the beings we fear and adore were once like us, average, mortal and weak... at least most of them were. *It is a sort of reverse RPG as no one knows anything either skills, abilities or how the system works but they find out on their own or develop their own skills or abilites. *The story has many protagonists and point of views but it paints a beatiful story of survival in a world of endless perils for both the humans and the monsters(some monsters are protagonists). *There is a system but it is very limited (not overpowered) and treats everyone equally, monster or human. The system is very different from regular systems; no exp, levels and system items. *The story is a world building story where overall, the world is the true main character. The cover image photo is credited to Angel David *For now it's one chapter a day
