《Reborn as a DRAGON》Chapter 27: Monsters

'The emperor must always weigh the responsibility he accepted for others in good times and bad. He must be brave on the inside, willing to see his flaws and work to be a better human being, kinder, more empathic, a better leader. He must be brave on the outside and lead from the front regardless of personal cost, after all, the emperor is a wise keeper of peace, one who is fair. Always remember that my liege!' — ???

'I'm not very sure about Green's fighting abilities, but at the end of the day she is a dragon, and she also managed to complete the 'hunt', so she should be fine.' I thought as I glanced at her small figure still hiding under my wing.
She raised her head as our eyes met before she licked my shoulder since she was still unable to reach my face. 'Ah well, she's injured so it might be best for her to sit this one out.'
I lowered my head and nudged her back a few steps with my snout. Green seemed surprised at that and was about to step forward when I stopped her with my tail and shook my head.
She seemed to understand my intention yet still looked worried with her head lowered. 'Don't make that face, just leave this to your older brothers' I grinned as I patted her head with my tail.
I was still unable to converse with them as father did with me, yet that did not mean that I couldn't use my emotions to send my intentions to her. This finally seemed to do the trick as Green calmed down and stepped back.
'Now then, it's about time we take care of the trash.' I turned to glare at the group of humanoid monsters. None of them were able to meet my gaze head-on as they averted their eyes.

"Roar!" Golden boy was unable to contain himself any longer unleashed a terrifying roar, he then forcefully pushed his paw to the ground causing the ground to crack before he instantly launched himself towards the monsters like an arrow.
'He's fast!' My eyes widened in surprise.
He truly was too fast, I was almost unable to keep up with him as he rushed forward, the ground broke under his momentum. The grey monsters had no time to react before a few dozen were ripped to shreds.
Golden boy was like a force of nature, his body was probably the strongest out of all of us siblings enabled him to rip his opponents to shreds. His claws tore limbs and heads whenever he passed.
Although surprised and with dwindled numbers, some monsters still managed to react as they hurriedly moved out of his way while occasionally launching a few rocks out to try and stop him.
Some even tried to start their counterattack using their sharp claws. Though a few blows did manage to land on Golden boy leaving a couple of scratches on his scales, the one-eyed monsters were not able to escape unscathed as they wore ruthlessly slain by him.
Anyone that came closer to Golden boy forfeits his life. 'But still, their numbers are too large. Although their individual strength is not impressive, their numbers are terrifying. Even Golden Boy with his stupidly strong body and high stamina will not be able to keep this up.'
"Roar!" My maw opened as another spinning bluish orb appeared before it was sent flying towards the grey one-eyed monsters, leaving behind a blue trail in the air.
'I can't let him do all the work.' I grinned before I rushed towards the battle to help out.
Dragon breath was no longer as effective now that they were on guard, I did manage to get a few of them yet it was still significantly less than my previous sneak attack. 'And I still don't know how to use mana to guide my breath attack.'

As I dashed forward, I called for the mana's help from in my surroundings, and it answered. A water shield materialized around my body, it did not hinder me in the least, yet it still protected me from any enemy's sneak attack.
My body wasn't as strong as Golden boy, my scales can defend against their claw attacks but not for too long, hence why I used mana to defend while I attacked using my claws, teeth, and tail.
Whenever I passed, blood would rain as I danced between the grey humanoid monsters. Their skin was too soft, the feeling of my claws tearing their limbs apart was almost intoxicating, unbeknownst to me, my eyes slowly began to glow crimson as my vision turned tainted with a blood-like hue.
It was fun! The thrill of battle made my blood boil, Golden boy to my left was already completely caked in blood, it almost appeared as if his scales were crimson instead of golden.
Enemies of this level were not our opponents. The longer I fought, the clearer my mind became, I could sense the mana in my surroundings like never before.
Two water balls appeared out of thin air before I sent them towards a couple of grey monsters that tried to sneak up on Golden boy. It was then that an enemy suddenly jumped at my right side, just as I was about to dodge, a spike rose from the earth and impaled him.
I turned my surprised gaze towards Golden boy who was still tearing through the enemy's ranks without a care in the world, he suddenly turned his gaze towards me for a split second, the shadow of a smirk visible on his face.
'This little! When did he learn to use magic?' I thought, my eyes gleaming with excitement. It was just too much fun!
It did not take long before I was standing atop a small hill of corpses, Golden boy by my side. We were both exhausted yet we still stood tall with pride. We survived.
The battle had left its mark on us, Golden boy had a few broken scales, while I was hit in the tail, though thankfully it wasn't serious. I turned to glance in Green's direction, a few monsters had managed to bypass us and tried to target her, though they all ended up dead on the ground.
'I think I understand Golden boy's addiction to battles a little bit more.'

Adelaide
The entries here are transcribed from the log of Marie Ruiz, first mate of the Adelaide. It was definitely, definitely not published without her permission or knowledge by a certain lovable artificial intelligence for the purpose of sharing it with my AI friends on other ships who follow it like a soap opera. No way, no how. Remember guys, don’t go spreading this around too much. Only pass it on to those you can trust. God forbid this should ever end up on a public network… (Adelaide is a science fiction web serial featuring the adventures of a crew of smugglers. In space. It’s on the softer end of the soft/hard sci-fi spectrum because the author got a C in physics. Updates every other Sunday.)
