《Reborn as a DRAGON》Chapter 65: Welcome party

I followed my mother to the cave as I glanced about in curiosity, I did not see my siblings yet. It was already late evening, and usually by this time they should all be here somewhere. Golden boy would be practicing with his golems while Green would finish up her flight and come back home.
Strangely none of them were present, I was about to ask my mother who moved towards the deeper ends of the cave and laid down with an interested gleam in her eyes as she looked at me. 'Hmm? What's with that look?' Something was wrong, my senses warned me.
I looked around scanning the cave with my gaze yet saw nothing, 'What's with this ominous feeling?' I wondered as I brought my guard up, 'Is it another test??' I was already sick and tired of getting jumped at every possibility, hence this time I was going to be ready.
Just as I reached out to the water mana in my surroundings, my danger senses tingled as I jumped back a few steps barely avoiding an earth spike that shot out from the ground. 'Golden boy?!' Before I could spot where he attacked me from, another spell came rushing towards me at an unprecedented speed from a particularly dark corner.
The spell was like a cloak of darkness that surrounded me from all sides, trapping me within it. The scenery changed around me as I was now inside a world of darkness, mother was nowhere to be seen, everything around me was obsidian black. I felt a sense of danger coming from above and hastily summoned my water shield as a wind blade collided with it.
I could not pinpoint the exact location of the attack with the darkness spell, just as I was about to retaliate, a bright white orb rushed towards me with a speed impossible to dodge. Thankfully, my reaction time was quite fast as I sent a spinning water orb powered by my mana to meet the attack head-on.

Both attacks seemed to nullify each other with a loud bang, as the realm once again reverted to its dark state. I frowned with my senses alert, It appeared like my cute little siblings have prepared a welcome party for me. 'They even got Green in on it,' I thought with a grin, that wind blade was definitely hers, and It was quite the strong one too!
I quickly tried to analyze the situation, thinking of a way to end it. 'The sneak attack was Golden boy, I'm surprised he restrained himself and didn't rush head-on, I didn't even feel his attack until the last second, this darkness cloak should be Blacky's doing, so he trapped me here but the fact that he's not launching any other attacks must mean that just holding me here is taking all he got, which means I got White, Green, and Golden boy to worry about,'
Just as I was thinking about that, the sound of something breaking through the air brought me back to my senses as I rapidly summoned a water shield around me to protect me from whatever was coming. Seconds later, a few earth darts were blocked by my shield. It seemed like Golden boy didn't use mana on them which gave me a hard time trying to pinpoint where they were coming from.
Not giving me any time to rest, White's magic suddenly erupted illuminating the whole area as if a sun had descended and forcing me to close my eyes in irritation, It was then that Green made her move and launched a torrent of wind blades towards me from all directions, while Golden boy summoned a few earth spikes where I stood forcing me back a few steps.
Although their attacks were fast and precise, they still lacked the output to bring me down. Just as I was thinking about that, three earth golems abruptly appeared, one coming straight at me while the other two attacked my sides. I easily dodged their blows, although Golden boy's control over them had significantly improved, It was still a bit lacking.

I effortlessly weaved through their attacks and evaded Green and White's occasional magic spells. 'Their coordination is impressive, though they still lack a bit of real combat experience, not that I got much of it myself but still,' Their onslaught continued until they must have finally realized that they won't be able to do much to me like this.
The golems stepped back, as the darkness cloak disappeared revealing my dear little siblings who surrounded me with wary yet excited expressions on their faces. Green was standing on top of White's head, while Golden boy was close to Blacky both having an exhilarate expression on their faces.
Golden boy seemed to be barely able to control himself from jumping ahead, his eyes followed my every move with anticipation while Blacky and White slowly circled me like predators. Green swiftly jumped to the air where she observed the whole battlefield, waiting for her chance to pounce.
'Would you look at that,' I chuckled, the humans did not bring much of a fight and had left me quite disappointed, yet It seems like I'll finally be able to have some fun with my siblings.
The first to make a move was Golden boy with his three golems, he swiftly followed right after them. I didn't engage directly and instead choose to evade his blows. He was after all the strongest physically out of all of us siblings. Just as I was about to send a counter-attack of my own, White's body flashed with a blinding light as she blinked towards my back while brandishing her claws.
I sidestepped from Golden boy and his golems' attacks and sent a bit of mana to strengthen my tail as I used it to block White's attack. The force of the clash sent us both in different ways, incidentally bringing me towards Blacky who launched a spinning orb of darkness to my face.
I used my wings to push myself high in the air and narrowly avoided his strike, yet the air was Green's territory, and as soon as I rose a barrage of wind blades came rushing to my wings from all sides. I needed to create a distance between me and them, and so I reached out to the water mana and summoned a wave of water that surged towards them from all directions with me at its center.
This forced all of them to rise to the air to avoid it, and also gave me enough time to put a bit of distance between us. I had them all in front of me at the moment, and It was best that I prevent them from surrounding me.
I reached out to the mana and used a move I knew wouldn't last long but It was enough to buy me some time. A water bubble instantly appeared around their faces stopping them from breathing. Now although the attack itself sounds overpowered It wasn't very helpful, as every dragon has a natural shield of sorts surrounding our bodies, calling it a shield might not be correct, It was the accumulation of mana from the Dragon's respective element.
I figured that out when I was experimenting with magic before I left with my grandfather. For example, for me, I had water mana constantly surrounding me while Green has wind mana, Golden boy has earth mana, and so on.
Now using my attack, unless I was tremendously stronger than my opponent, they could easily break out of it using their mana. But I already anticipated that I simply bought enough time for myself to deal with them one by one and not all at once.
I grinned as I rushed towards the weakest physically out of all of us Green, 'I'm sorry little sis, but I have to teach you a lesson!'

Until You Do It Right
The world ended on December thirty-first of the year two thousand and twenty, precisely at the stroke of midnight. The human race began to be systematically exterminated by the spawn of the System. We were given a chance to defeat them, to take back our place at the top of the food chain. We failed. The first to perish were those who bravely rebelled. The soldiers. The defenders. One by one, they fell. In their final moments, they begged for aid. Nobody replied. The next to succumb were those who feebly cowered. The deniers. The leeches. Together, they fell. In their final moments, they cried out into the darkness. Countless voices replied in kind. The last to decline were those who shamelessly ran. The deserters. The cowardly. Alone, they fell. In their final moments, they whimpered quietly. There was nobody left to answer. The final human to die was a survivor. A runner. As he died, he begged for salvation. His prayers were answered. He was offered a chance to save himself, along with all of humanity, and he took it. This is his story. “I sat in the dark and thought: There’s no big apocalypse.
