《Emperor Saga》Chapter 10 : Outlaw 2
Advertisement
Finally, Daniel found an abandoned building near his home to practice his swordsmanship. He decided to practice for 3 hour a day. He swung the sword around, this time while imagining a fight with a black cat. He mixed in kicks and punches sometimes while doing the imaginary fighting.
Normal-speed based fighters can at least wear leather armour but because he was a merchant, normal clothing is the only thing he can wear. And Daniel never learned any form of martial art which is essential in differentiating between a good and great agility-type fighter. Things like hit rate and dodging is purely based on the player’s real ability, the game only provides the basics such as speed and strength, basically a body suited for a user’s fighting style. For an agility-type fighter that needs to dodge and strike the enemy’s vital spots, basic martial arts is needed.
But Daniel used to be a great gamer. In his youth, fighting was one of his games. There was a time when Daniel led his clan and destroyed another whole clan in a single night. There was also a time Daniel PKed a player until he dropped to 10 level. And there was also a time when Daniel spoke all high and mighty until it annoyed a lot of people. Those people that couldn't take a game as just a game looked for him and challenged him to a real fight. But no matter how many people came, Daniel never lost...... ever.......

During day time, Chrono hid himself in one of the safe places. He was always aware of his surroundings during day time as users are a lot more scarier than any monster to him. In this spare time, Chrono practiced his swordsmanship while doing image training. When night came, it was time for him to hunt.
With his strategy, black cats were significantly easier to hunt but Chrono couldn’t let his guard down while fighting it because a single mistake would cost him his life. And his strategy took a lot of time as he spent a 3 hour minimum just to wait for the black cat. While hunting black cats, it took a lot of effort just to arrive at the black cat’s route because Chrono needed to avoid all the users and higher level monsters he found on the way. All of this made Chrono feel despair until he gained an unexpected skill.
Trtting!!
By avoiding higher level monster and user you gain the skill Fear Death
Fear Death(Passive):
No need to fight unnecessarily and lose your life. Can sense danger in 100 meter radius.

Chrono was always looking for other alternatives to speed his leveling and finally decided he would level his manufacturing skills to get extra stats and a bit of experience. This method didn't make the leveling any faster than before, but Chrono could now get to the black cat’s route faster and he could grind his crafting skill while waiting for the black cat because now he could sense when the black cat would arrive instead of waiting in 'Fake Death' mode indefinitely.

"(Its getting boring)". With his tactic, Chrono managed to reach level 5 with Grave. But his leveling speed was too slow using this way. The only skill he could level while in the Forest of the Beasts was the cooking, repair and foraging skills. Other skills needed material which Chrono lacked. Every level up he earned 5 point. He decided to spend 3 points on dexterity and 2 points on sense every level.
Other normal monsters in the Forest of the Beasts move in packs making it harder to hunt. The only monster that liked to solo is the black cat and Forest of the Beasts’ boss monster Rydon wanders around the forest randomly. Chrono then decided he should continue to hunt this way. With 'Fear Death', Chrono could now hunt in day time too.
************
While Chrono was doing his daily hunt, he heard a sound from behind his back. A sound he hadn't heard for a month. The sound he feared. A human voice.
-"Hello there" A smirk come from the user.
"(How could he get so close to me without my 'Fear Death' skill noticing?)". Chrono was flustered and reflexively ran from the user.
--"Why run?" Another user came out in front of him.
"(They are bounty hunters)" Some users hunt chaotic player to get a reward. Hunting users like Chrono that have the 'Serial Murderer' title will be reward 10 copper. The amount itself is not much but some quests required a user to kill a handful of chaotic players for quest progress.
Chrono continued running while changing his direction. "(No way you guys will catch me, I know this forest like the back of my hand.)"
The pursuers chased Chrono confidently, their confidence wasn't baseless as they were both level 50 users. They could outrun Chrono under normal circumstance but Chrono cleverly ran between tree roots and heavy bush which made it harder to chase him even with higher dexterity. Finally at one of the tree roots, Chrono suddenly made sharp turn and jumped confidently. The pursuers followed him without seeing what lay ahead.

When the pursuers landed, they saw a 'corpse' which they knew was pretty much alive and a pack of wolfs!!! The wolves numbers were no less than 15 and they were looking at both users with fierce beastly eyes while ignoring the 'corpse'.
"((Oh no))" Both users only option now was to fight since they were already surrounded by wolves. The wolves level was only 35 but they got numbers on their side and their leader, Silver Hair was level 60. A fierce fight between the two bounty hunters and the wolf pack began. Meanwhile Chrono was staying as a corpse.
The organized wolf pack attacked the two users in sequence to avoid hurting their own kin and the wolves with low health would retreat to the back of the pack to recover while healthy wolves continued their attack. This characteristic made hunting wolf packs hard without a proper party. But whenever a wolf with low health retreated to the back, a 'corpse' rose and finished it off before turning back into a 'corpse'.
You have slain a wolf

No doubt the two bounty hunters were annoyed by this cheap trick.
-"Damn you red eyes!! That’s cheating!!"
--"Cheapskate!! I have never in my whole life seen someone KS like you!!"
One curse word after another was spewed by the two users towards Chrono while fighting the wolf pack. Of course Chrono didn't mind any of that. Surprisingly, the two users were pretty skillful, the number of wolf had depleted significantly but of course they could never land the last hit. After a long fight, the users’ health was reduced to around 30% but they only needed to fight the wolf leader.
As the leader, Silver Hair the wolf was considered a mini boss. It had a tremendous amount of health and only moved when all the wolves are slain. The result, the two users needed to fight the silver haired wolf with its full health. Both users fought desperately and their health was further reduced to 15% and 18% respectively while the wolf still had 50% health.
-"Jason! Complete the quest while I hold Silver Hair!!" They finally decided to kill Chrono before they died.
--"Okay, leave it to me James!" Jason dashed to Chrono and prepared his strongest skill.
Realizing the situation, Chrono rose quickly then threw his spear at Jason. With Jason’s own dashing momentum and the spear’s throwing power, the spear penetrated his armour and thrust through his body.
Critical Hit!!
Chrono struck Jason while he was in a panicked state as this situation had never happened to him before. Like the black cat, Jason couldn’t retaliate properly with the heavy spear in the way. Chrono took this chance to attack Jason relentlessly.
Critical Hit!!

Chrono managed to get critical hits with all of his five attacks. Finally Jason fell and died.

Busy with Silver Hair, James didn't know about Jason’s situation. He desperately tried to hold back Silver Hair with his life. When his health got lower than 5% and he was about to give up, suddenly a huge spear thrust through the wolf’s body.
Back Stab!!
Critical Hit!!
-"What?" While wondering what was going on, a sword thrust through his body from his back.
"Never try to hunt me again." Chrono warned with an eerie voice.
Back Stab!!
Critical Hit!!
You have successfully killed a person. -100 fame
You have earned the title Psychopath. You can earn more experience when you mercilessly kill a person.
25% of your vitality restored
Chrono turned his gaze on Silver Hair. With his merchant’s eye Chrono could guess the wolf had around 30% of it health left. Chrono activated a skill and charged to Silver Hair.
"Soul Wall!!"
Silver Hair charged to Chrono and tried to attack with it huge canines. Dodging the slowed wolf by a hair’s breadth, cold sweat ran from Chrono’s body. Thankfully Chrono didn't panic and managed to counter attack but the attack didn't hit its vitals.
You hit Silver Hair
Because of its huge body and strength, Heavy Spear only reduced Silver Hair’s speed by 35%. Chrono fearlessly attacked Silver Hair while knowing he could die from a single strike. He managed to hit Silver Hair while landing a few critical hits. But after he used up all of his souls, Silver Hair was still alive.
His normal attacks would only do little damage and a single mistake meant be game over.
"(I should have crafted more heavy spears now I have got nothing in my arsenal....wait, I do have something)" Suddenly Chrono thought of something. He had never done it before, but he would bet his life on this one last trick.
Silver Hair charged at Chrono with all its might. It seemed the wolf wanted to end the fight. Chrono face the wolf while standing still. The wolf got closer and closer, when Silver Hair leapt at Chrono to strike.
"Portal!"
Chrono activated his 'Ancient Merchant’s Secret' skill and a portal appeared ten meters above Silver Hair. A giant sword fell down vertically from the portal and thrust through Silver Hair body. The wolf died impaled by Ragnarok.

You slay Silver Hair
You level up
Grave level up
Chrono smiled as he succeeded. He took all the loot and disappeared in the thick forest.

Checkpoint
as an anomaly sweeps the world, many gain strange abilities. as for Mal, the power makes it so they cannot die, or more accurately, they get sent back in time to the last place they were safe at. A power that seems like a blessing until you’re crushed under rubble, drowned in sewage, shot, stabbed, all while having the royalties to feel all the pain from such fates. And to put the icing on the cake, a strange message appeared before everyone’s eyes stating that unless someone breaks down the gate within 17 years, everyone will die”. now Mal needs to find a way to “break down the gate” (whatever the hell that means) or they will be forced to die and revive, only to die again for the rest of time. Which would suck, probably. /————————————————— this is technically a time loop novel. the MC is chaotic neutral with a worryingly lack of care about how their actions affect people. i want to interact with my readers so give critique and suggestions. I will sometimes host polls for the personality for new characters, story decisions, and the ability to cancel annoying characters, besides Mal, if they get enough complaints. I am also impatient and will end decision polls when I want to write more. If no one votes, I choose, so don’t let that happen. if you’re want world building check out hitchhikers guide to checkpoint (an encyclopedia of what I made up with lots more explanation)
