《Binary Progression》Volume 4 - Chapter 55: Crispy!... no "w" yet...

The withered form of the boss slumped to the ground, its back pressed against the smooths stone walls of his chamber.
His body damaged from the constant fight between him and the temporary, loose and unspoken alliance between John and Bolst.
JohnWillStab was decently capable of holding out against the boss thanks to his poison immunity and stamina, but Bolst was at risk of death and too stubborn to retreat.
"Damn... mortals..." croaked the monster as it pointed a finger at Bolst once more, a neon-purple needle formed at his fingertip as it flew out and towards Bolst who deflected it with his blade before slashing at the boss who stepped back, much too agile for a bold attack like that.
The deflected needle left a hole in the wall of the cave as it faded away.
JohnWillStab shadow-stepped behind, the boss swiped at him only for John to crouch down in anticipation of the boss' counter-move and sweep at his feet.
Instead of the ball falling over as John hoped, the part he kicked dispersed into the fog as the boss glided away from them, his feet reforming moments later once he reached a safe distance.
"I must be getting old..." sighed the boss.
"I used to fight forty men without much trouble..."
"And now an undead and a human of all races are giving me this much trouble..."
"If you surrender we can leave and try this tomorrow!" John suggested half-seriously.
"Like hell we can!" Bolst exclaimed looking to John as if he just kicked his dog.
"Ok, ok, guess we can't... but a five-minute piss-break is ok, right?" asked John.
"...hmmm..." Bolst looked at John bitterly before breathing a sigh.
"Fine..."
"I DON'T THINK SO!" the boss exclaimed, it reached into its cloak and pulled out a glowing yellow bottle.

It downed the entire bottle before John or Bolst could react causing its body to begin twitching.
John could see the robe it wore shifting as it fell to the ground.
"Yes... finally I..."
He stood up, pushing his cloak open and revealing the pretty-scrawny body of a man in his early thirties.
It had four arms, each one ending with a long claw-like finger.
Its body pulsated with veins that twitched visibly.
"I HAVE FINALLY REACHED PERFECTION!" the boss laughed.

"Perfection?" thought John, "I guess I wasn't all that far off from the perfect body after all!"
Bolst charged at the boss, fist drawn back and ready to punch through the humanoid.
The poisonous fog cleared out as JohnWillStab appeared behind the boss, they both attacked the boss, John slashed at him from behind as Bolst punched its stomach.
Both attacks were easily blocked by the claw-like fingers of the boss, with the remaining two finger-claws it stabbed both of them in the arm.
JohnWillStab slashed at the claw only for his dagger to slide off them, they were too hard for steel to cut.
"WHAT THE HELL!?"
John heard a loud battle cry as Bolst proceeded to head-butt the boss in the torso, bushing it back slightly as well as opening a massive would on his forehead.
"You futile efforts at fighting me are... well... futile..." in what must have been a split second the boss kicked Bolst across the room, smashing his own chamber walls and leaving a large stain of blood and a deep wound both internal and external in Bolst's torso.
"What the hell is this!?" Bolst thought seeing the immeasurable power of the boss.
The boss turned his attention to John as its body twisted unnaturally to face him.

"Now then... undead..."
JohnWillStab shadow-stepped behind the boss, at first he thought his ability was broken, but in reality, the boss twisted its body to face John so fast he couldn't even see its back.
JohnWillStab riffled through his pocket discretely in search of a health potion, after finding one he tossed it at Bolst.
Much to his surprise, he didn't hear the sound of breaking glass as the boss dangled the fully intact bottle before John's eyes moments later.
"It looks like you dropped this..." the boss taunted before smashing the bottle into John's face making it distinctly less face-like.
Once more the boss was caught off-guard when he was grabbed by Bolst from behind.
"What are you trying to do, human?" he asked calmly, not even stopping the human as Bolst picked the boss up from behind.
"DON'T ACT LIKE THE UNDEAD IS THE MAIN THREAT HERE!" Bolst said as he stomped out of the chamber with the undead in a tight grip.
He was walking up the stairs towards the exit of the boss room.
"What the hell is he planning!?" thought John as he rushed behind him.
"Planning to carry me to your allies?" asked the boss holding back laughter.
"The gate is still locked!" he said melodically.
"I'M NOT GOING TOWARDS THE GATE!" Bolst cried as he slammed the boss face-first into a wall.
"So your master plan was to smash me into a wall?" the boss sounded more disappointed than anything.
His eyes focused on the green light of the torches, first he noticed the smell, then the heat.
"THE FISH OIL!" cried the boss as its head erupted into flames, the hood of its cloak serving to contain the fire as the boss dotted Bolst with holes by stabbing him with his finger-claws dozens of times per second before falling down the stairs.
"YOU BASTARDS!" it shrieked.
"It's weak to fire!" John exclaimed the obvious.
"As are most living things are..."
John reached into his pocket and pulled out a bottle of fish oil as he threw it at the boss, adding fuel to the fire as a disgusting smell filled the room.
"NO! I DON'T CAN'T DIE HERE! NOT LIKE THIS!" the boss' voice sounded dry and pitiful.
"Not... yet..."
The fire crawled across the boss's body, consuming him in a cruel inferno that reduced it to a black husk in mere minutes.
His shrivelled corpse cracked open at the ribcage, revealing a key to a chest that magically appeared in the centre of the room.
JohnWillStab didn't even grab the key as he rushed over to the dead human that lay on the other side of the room.
A dissatisfied look remained on his face, JohnWillStab couldn't do anything to revive Bolst, his heart was already reduced to a pulp by the boss several seconds ago and his last health potion was broken by the boss minutes earlier.
Several panicked voices could be heard running into the boss rooms as soon as the gates opened.
"JohnWIllStab?!" Bonifacius called out.
The battle-ready raid-group charged into the room, ready to avenge JohnWillStab only to see him still alive, sitting next to the corpse of the boss' third-phase and the bloodied body of Bolst.
"What the hell happened here?" asked Bromy seeing the aftermath of the fight.

Path of Righteousness
What do you desire? What are you afraid of? You run away from one, pursuing the other. Is that all you are? Conquer your fears. Dig to the bottom and confirm, what you really want... ...For you cannot escape suffering and death. You only have a little time. Use it wisely. Uru, a young boy with no talent for magic or fighting, sets out on a quest to become an avatar of order, the physical embodiment of righteousness, in a distant future, where control of origin energy allows people to defy physics and manipulate causality. Mocked by fate and broken by impossible dreams, all that's left is to stand in defiance to cruel existence. Because there is a Truth out there, somewhere. Singular, transcendent, eternal. What would you sacrifice for it? *** This is a fantastic sci-fi epic. It's going to blend both western and eastern traditional fantasy tropes – like might & magic and cultivation – with rational sci-fi grounded fully in reality, to produce a purely fictional fairy tale. I'd like to deliver something light-hearted and yet wholly serious. An uplifting adventure exploring the unfathomable reaches of humanity, free of indecency, with a healthy dose of humorous banter, legendary beings, and most importantly – lots of exciting, firework-filled mayhem! I've tried reading many web novels, but there's a fundamental problem with them – the eastern ones are annoyingly repetitive, superficial and morally destitute, while western ones are often dark, convoluted and profane. There's only so much one can do to filter out the bad and try to fill in the gaps with their own imagination. It's one thing to eat tasty fast food, but if it's moldy and filled with toxins, then it's not only poisonous, but also disgusting. The appreciation of beauty and higher values is disappearing at an alarming rate. Although there are throngs of talented people out there, none of them are creating what I want to witness – an inspiring battle against impossible odds, ending in absolute victory. A triumph of the spirit so overwhelming, it crushes the spectator into his seat and takes his breath away. I'm looking for a real paragon, so now I'd like to try conceiving one. *** The MC's name comes from Tolkien's Elven dictionary in Silmarillion, 'Uru' meaning 'Fire', and 'Dagnir an Uruloki' meaning 'Slayer of Dragons'. *** Note: I'm neither a native speaker, nor an aficionado of literature – I've never written anything before, and despite proficient English my literary prowess is abysmal. It therefore takes me a painful amount of effort to polish the chapters and bring them up to par. Last year I wrote and posted some on FictionPress, but I stopped since it wasn't going anywhere. The appalling amount of filth and mediocrity being peddled in all the media nowadays – a result of no conspiracy to manipulate the masses, but plain supply and demand – is no longer just the triumph of form over substance, but most worryingly corruption of the latter. Who wants to read about ideals anymore? And yet, masses flock together to gobble up perversion and depravity. That being said, I can't rule out pitiful exposure as the culprit to my failure, so I am now once again trying to increase it here, possibly for the last time. If there are still human beings present, hungry or in need of a detox after eating too much garbage, make yourselves heard, so I can see a reason to continue the story. Otherwise it's pointless – I'm not going to make fodder for the masses, and I'm most certainly not going to throw pearls before swine. I'll simply stop writing altogether.
