《Double Trouble》6. Stanley (Part 4)

Stanley headed toward an old and torn building where the torn mattress laid aside and plopped Jordan on top of it before dragging and pushing that as well.
Stanley placed the mattress on the side of the apartment complex before entering Willow View. He snuck around the Landlord who was sleeping while sitting on his chair. Stanley tiptoed to the drawers and opened them, taking out a pair of keys and putting them in his pockets.
Heading to the storage room on the floor above, Stanley unlocked and opened the door using the keys from before and stepped inside, bringing Jordan along with him. He placed the man with red eyes on a chair. Stanley headed to another drawer, opening it to take out some duct tape and rope. He turned to face Jordan and unpeeled the tape to place in the guy’s mouth and tied up his body with string, making sure he stayed in place and tightened it.
“Perfect,” Stanley muttered under his breath.
He lurked over to a box, where he found a small pocket knife and picked it up. He noticed the tip of the blade, and upon seeing the reflection, saw Jordan open his eyes.
“Oh, looks like you’re awake, Jordan,” Stanley said, walking over to him as Jordan squirmed and grunted, trying to get out as well as find a way to breathe. “So, how does it feel to be in a tight situation? And don’t try to struggle either. Once I leave this place, you won’t be able to do anything much longer. No one will help you out here.”
Stanley pulled out the knife and drew near Jordan’s neck. “But before I go, there’s something I’d love to test out.” He said with a sinister grin on his face as his eyes grew wide.

Jordan’s heart pounded fast as his body sweated, and his eyes shrunk in fear. He desperately tried to get out of the situation and cry out for help. But as Stanley said, he couldn’t do anything about it. He shut his eyes tight and prayed to his heart’s content.

Stanley closed the door behind him after finishing his business. He locked it with a shiny key before disposing of it in the trash, covering it with all the garbage surrounding it. Nobody will find the broom closet now. He hid in his room to write up a letter to give to Hilary. He exited and headed up toward her room and slid it under the doorway before heading out.
Stanley rushed up the stairs to the roof of the apartment. The wind died down as the clouds separated to show a creak of the moon high in the sky. Stanley walked closer to the edge of the roof, looking down to see the mattress still resting on the ground. His heart pounded fast as he gulped, clutching his chest.
His plan should go smoothly if he could pull this off. Once Stanley went off, his clone will go down with him since they share the same pain.
“Stanley, what are you doing?” He heard a female voice call out from behind him. He snapped around to find Hilary standing there, with her hands clasped together, her body shaking. “I saw your note; it’s not true, is it?” She questioned. “What did you—?”
“Sorry, but I can’t explain it at the moment. There’s little time left for me.” Stanley sighed, turning back to the mattress. “I have to do this.” He turned back to face Hilary and gave her a sad smile. “Although, I’m glad to have met you, one last time, and that you’re not mad at me anymore.”

“No, please don’t do this!” Hilary pleaded.
“Goodbye, Hilary...”
Hilary ran over to try and catch him, but she was too late. Stanley closed his eyes, spread his arms wide, and fell backwards. Hilary dropped to her knees and buried her face in her hands, refusing to watch Stanley fall and letting the tears streamed down her face. Stanley smiled one last time before he blacked out.

Viceroy's Pride
This story could be about the Tellask Empire, ruler of a thousand suns and faced with imminent peril at the hands of the Orakh hordes. It could be about Paltai Amberell, the scion of a noble elven House, fallen upon hard times and seeking to find the key that will restore his family's name and save the Empire itself. It could be the story of his voidship, The Viceroy's Pride, powered by magic and crewed by a team of crack marines as they search for adventure and the solution to the Empire's myriad problems. Instead, this is the story of Daniel Thrush, human electrical engineer, befuddled researcher and survivor of the debacle that was first contact with a spacefaring civilization. Due to a combination of luck, magic, hard work, and more luck he is thrust into the center of events as Earth is shoved onto a much larger stage rife with semi-immortal elves and magical kingdoms that predate the Earthly invention of agriculture. Earth is outnumbered, and we have precisely one wizard. Dan. He's not very good at it, but he's going to have to learn in a hurry or watch everything he knows get torn apart by massive spacefaring empires straight from the pages of a fantasy novel. ---------- Some readers have noted that the MC tends to be weak willed and pushed around a bit. A significant portion of the story is his character growth into not being a pushover (i.e. him being passive is in the early chapters on purpose). I'm just including this caveat/warning to make sure that readers aren't surprised/upset and that they stick with it until he learns to stand up for himself. His arc begins to crystallize around chapters 25-27. If that's too long to wait, I get it, I'm just trying to do my due diligence and warn you that the character development is a bit of a slow burn. This is NOT a harem novel. Nothing against them, just not what it is. --------- Updates Monday, Wednesday, and Sunday Feel free to bother me on our discord- Discord!

Into the Feywild
I've never considered myself to be much of a fighter. In fact, I had no notion what it was all about. I couldn't envision a war amongst people, especially my own. In this odd realm, a timid half-elf has little chance of success. Especially with minimal experience. I've only fought as a means of survival, self-defense, if you will. I had known only humans, so the concept of elven culture and family was foreign to me. And yet, here I am, in the midst of a tremendous battle between two Feys and a God. I never planned for things to turn out this way, or for me to get caught in the great shambles of war—a conflict between good and evil. My two companions are practically strangers to me, knowing nothing but my name. This journey was not something I had planned or wished for, but it was what the Gods gave me.◈ ◈ ◈Meli, a young half-elf traveling the Material Plane, is unexpectedly captured while on her travels, only to become a member of an odd group of individuals. Crane, an older wizard castaway from his college for practicing unnatural magic, and Kurky, a youthful and lively gnome who is as fascinating as they come. Meli's curiosity gets the better of her as she chooses to accompany them on their not so concrete journey into the Feywild. Little did they know of the constant war raging within this woodsy plane. Maybe Meli will discover everything she's been looking for, embracing love and pleasure along the way. Or perhaps she'll become a part of something bigger. © Copyright to EmmeMeadows 2021
