《Double Trouble》15. Everyone (Part 3)

Stanley, Jordan, and Hilary ended up teleporting to a different location. Looking around, they find themselves inside an operating computer, the maintenance of the internet. They could tell from the wires, lines, and bubbles with tons of visuals.
“Wow, I never thought I’d be in a place like this,” Stanley said in awe.
“It’s a good thing you brought us over here.” Hilary acknowledged. “Otherwise—”
“Ok, that’s great.” Jordan interrupted as he looked up at the ceiling. “Now, can you tell us who you are and what’s going on?”
“Alright, then.” The voice replied.
After a while, someone appeared in the center of the room and in front of them. The figure had long pink hair with a black and brown eye. She also wore a gray dress that covered her legs and shoes and had a small black top hat.
“I don’t believe we’ve met.” The pink-haired lady greeted them. “My name is Mimi, the robotic mascot for the Wish App.” She explained.
“I had a feeling; you looked rather familiar.” Hilary pointed out.
Mimi cleared her throat. “Anyways, I’m speaking to you through my Master’s—”
The ground shook as rumbling occurred. The group tried their best to keep their balance and not fall.
“What was that?” Stanley questioned.
“I’m not sure.” Hilary shrugged. After a moment of silence, the four went back to their earlier conversation.
“That’s a lot to stomach,” Jordan replied to Mimi.
“So, if that’s the case, then what is your true form?” Stanley inquired.
“What do you mean?” Mimi inquired, arching an eyebrow.
“Who is your master? What do they look like?” Stanley corrected.
Mimi stammered for a bit before responding. “Sorry, but I can’t say or show what my master looks like to protect their identity.”
“Oh, is that so—”
“Did you honestly think you could escape from me, Mimi?” A familiar voice hissed from a distance.
Mimi and the others turned to find Melody had caught up with them.

“What? How’d you get here and find us?” Mimi questioned.
“Doesn’t matter.” Melody retorted. “All that matters is I will get my revenge on you...”
“We need to get out of here now!” Mimi exclaimed.
“But how?” Jordan asked.
Mimi created an open tube set as a slide and pushed Stanley, Jordan, and Hilary inside while Mimi followed them from behind to make sure they were safe from Melody’s grasp. The group slid down until they exited and came across forks in the road floating in the air.
None of them were sure which way to go, but they couldn’t stay for long. Stanley, Jordan, and Hilary each took one path and split up for the time being. Mimi flew over the big tubes that appeared to be going in different directions, but soon found a way to connect.
.-.-.-.
The group got together as Mimi led them to another room, as they locked the door behind them. As Mimi sighed in relief, Stanley, Hilary, and Jordan looked up to find themselves in a mainframe room. The control pad had lots of buttons that stood from across the room.
Up ahead in their view, videos appeared in their sight; each one had bits of clips of different people interacting and doing tasks in their daily lives.
How was this possible? Did those people use the app beforehand, or have they just shown up on the network?
Mimi lowered her head and sighed. “All these people.” She muttered, breaking the silence between the four of them. “All we wanted was to make people’s lives better with our mechanical properties. But it seems that we made it all worse.” She buried her face in her hands and sulked.
Hilary walked over and placed her hands on Mimi’s shoulders. “Mimi, don’t blame yourself, it’s not your fault, you had your intentions and reason after all.”
“Hilary...” Mimi looked up and beamed a small smile at her.
“Hey, uh, guys? I don’t mean to interrupt...” Jordan spoke up.

“What’s the matter, Jordan?” Stanley asked.
“Well, has anyone noticed that Melody hadn’t followed us to this room?” Jordan continued.
“Now that you mentioned it, yeah, that’s concerning,” Mimi replied.
“Maybe we lost her?” Hilary guessed.
“Man, I wish—” Jordan started.
“No, no more wishing.” Mimi interrupted.
“But I already made a wish earlier...” Stanley defended.
“Is there a way to find this app online and delete it from the mainframe?” Hilary suggested.
“Hold on; I’ll try to look for a way.” Mimi squinted her eyes. She activated a board to scroll over some stuff as well as move around pieces and shapes on the internet until coming across something that caught her eye. “A-ha, I got it. This should do the trick!”
“You got the idea? You know how to fix this?” Stanley asked.
Mimi nodded. “I just need you guys to give me some time and—”
“I see you.” Many of the clips were replaced by distinct body parts of Melody as she stared blankly at the screen, making the others jump back in shock.
“Melody?” Hilary and Stanley questioned. “How did—?”
“I heard everything you said.” Melody ignored the two and spoke up.
“Are you out of your mind?” Jordan inquired. “You’re just going to destroy—”
“Like I care.” Melody interrupted. “All I wanted was to give you guys a paradise.”
The clips blacked out as Melody teleported herself in the middle of the room.
“What—? How did you get here?!” Mimi asked, exasperated.
“Before you delete the app, though...” Melody turned to face the control pad near the clips above. “I’m going to make one last wish.” She finished as she stepped closer to it.
“Wait, what are you saying? What are you going to do?” Mimi inquired, clasping her hands.
Melody hovered her hands over to the control panels and rubbed on one of the motion sensors. “I wish to be the most powerful user in the entire world!” After a moment of silence, nothing happened.
While Melody struggled with the system, wondering why it didn’t work, Mimi motioned for the others to leave the area.
“That’s not even where she can access the wishes,” Mimi whispered to the group of three. “We should get to the main control room before Melody does.”
“What?” Melody turned, overhearing their conversation.
She slammed her fists, causing ominous purple sparks to appear and chase down the others.
.-.-.-.
Stanley, Jordan, and Hilary followed Mimi out of the room. The door they had locked previously broke open as ominous shadows rushed down through the area to chase down and grab the others.
As Stanley, Hilary, Jordan, and Mimi jotted down through the light walls, circuit boards, and tubes, they nearly got caught and stopped by mini dark message bubbles. Mimi shot out some bright bubbles to hit them back, causing some explosions on the premises.
“This is ridiculous!” Jordan exclaimed. “How can we stop that crazy girl?”
“Aside from deleting the app?” Stanley inquired. “She’ll still have those crazy powers. It’s not like that’ll get erased as soon as Mimi—”
“Wait, I got an idea!” Hilary interrupted. “We can fight wishes with wishes!”
“Huh? What do you mean by that?” Jordan questioned.
“I still haven’t made a wish yet,” Hilary informed them. “I’m pretty sure I’m the only one out of all of us that hasn’t...”
“Are you aware of the rules and guidelines?” Mimi asked.
Hilary nodded. “And I know what to wish for, too. Before you delete the app forever, can you let me make one more wish?”
Mimi thought about it before responding. “I understand. I’ll take you there and you can make your wish, then I’ll delete the app permanently.”
Mimi led the group to a door while continuously blocking off the shots from the ominous message bubbles that kept appearing from thin air or another corner.
