《The Planes Walkers》10. No Home of His Own

Heyvl pulled Jet away from the doorway. Jet struggled. "We have to help him!"
"We'll be killed by those two men. If you want to help Trekthar, we must leave!"
"Won't they just start hurting others?" Jet asked.
"We'll have to take the chance they'll sense you have gone elsewhere...I don't know. We just can't go sacrificing ourselves right now. Trekthar wants us to go."
Jet hated it, but he knew Heyvl was right. He couldn't do anything against Wrathel's men. He would just be putting more people in danger.
Heyvl went to the room that Jet had stayed in. He began to kick the wall. The stick slowly gave in to the force. "I always told him he needed more entry ways," Heyvl said, trying to lighten the mood.
Jet didn't reply. He simply watched Heyvl kick the wall, while hearing Trekthar get beaten. Heyvl squeezed through the new opening. "Come on, let's go."
"Okay," Jet agreed. He followed Heyvl through the opening in the hut and the two ran further into the living area of Lonav.
"Where are we going to go?" Jet asked.
"I figured we could-" Heyvl started but cut himself off.
Jet slowed down and turned towards Heyvl. He tilted his head slightly. "What's wrong?"
"We can't leave just yet. I have to tell my parents."
Jet didn't expect that. He had almost forgot that other people had parents after spending so much time without them.
"Where are they?"
"Follow me," Heyvl replied.
Jet nodded and let Heyvl continue to lead the way. They started heading further into the village, rather than towards the city limits.
The two ran for what felt like hours. Jet couldn't hear the Soul Army Imperials anymore. He hoped Trekthar was okay.
Heyvl eventually led Jet to a large wooden house. It was similar to the ones around Trekthar's. Jet assumed it was Heyvl's house because they went straight towards it.
Jet watched Heyvl go inside. He waited a few seconds until Heyvl looked back and beckoned for him to follow.
"Come on, they'll want to see who I'll be travelling with."
"Are you sure they'll be okay with this?" Jet asked carefully as he stepped inside.

The inside was much cooler than Trekthar's hut. It wasn't as bright comparatively. Instead of sunlight, the walls were lined with gas torches on small holders that jutted out of the wall.
"Mom, dad!" Heyvl yelled out.
Heyvl ran down the entry hall into another room. Jet closed the door behind him and followed.
"Heyvl? Is everything alright?" a woman's voice asked with worry.
"Trekthar might need you two," Heyvl spat out as Jet came into the room.
"Who's this?" Heyvl's father asked as he looked to Jet.
"This is Jet."
Heyvl quickly explained everything. He told them about Jet and Trekthar and that Trekthar might be in trouble and possibly injured. Jet watched Heyvl's parents take this information. They didn't seem to be in shock that Heyvl was going to escort him to Kingdom.
"We must go check on Trekthar. If no one else was willing to help him, we must," Heyvl's father explained. Jet could see Heyvl was the spitting image of his father. Like Heyvl, his eyes were piercing blue. He didn't wear his hair like his son, but he had the same black hair.
"I agree. Please, take some supplies with you son," Heyvl's mother said. Jet noticed her hair was black as well, though her eyes were purple.
"Yeah I probably should," Heyvl chuckled a bit, as if supplies had passed his mind. Jet had to smile a bit. He too had forgotten basic needs to make a trip.
His parents began to scramble around. After a few minutes, they handed two bags to Heyvl. "These are for you two. Make them last," his father said.
"We have to go check on Trekthar," Heyvl's mother said as they began to head towards the door. "It was nice to meet you Jet. I hope you have a safe journey."
"Oh, uh...thanks," Jet replied, unsure of exactly how to speak properly to them.
"And Heyvl, please make sure you send word when you get to the Kingdom," Heyvl's mother said.
"Will do," Heyvl replied.
Like that, Heyvl's parents were gone to check on Trekthar. Jet stood there, silently going over their existence in his head. It happened so fast, he wasn't sure how to react. Jet came around when Heyvl pushed one of the bags to his chest. Jet looked down at the bag and back to Heyvl.

"You can carry this one."
Jet nodded and took the bag from him. Heyvl smiled. He walked towards the door. "I can tell you're surprised with how my parents are, then?"
"A little bit. I mean, I guess I didn't expect them to be so okay with their child traveling with me to another land."
Heyvl smirked. "They've learned that I can take care of myself. I once traveled to the border, so I'm sure this will be just like that."
Jet could see what Heyvl meant. He supposed if they had experience with his wandering around, then it would be fine.
"Come on, let's head out," Heyvl told him.
Jet followed Heyvl outside the house. The bright sunlight caught him off guard. He still wasn't used to the cloudless sky. He shaded his eyes from the sun with his hand as Heyvl started leading him away from the house.
Lonav seemed to stretch out for miles. Jet strapped his bag to his back. Heyvl had done the same.
Most of the houses all looked like Heyvl's parents'. They may have all had different layouts and shapes, but they were all of the same material and mostly the same colors. "I wonder if took long to build this city... er, village...place," Jet said to Heyvl.
"It's a city. It's just referred to as a village because we aren't as advanced as the other capitals from the other lands."
"That's a bit rude for them to assume."
"That's how the Kingdom and the Empire see us. Simple people."
Jet frowned. He could tell they were beyond 'simple.' They had trade routes, shops, and a huge capital. "Well maybe someday they'll see Lonava for what it is, and not what they assume," Jet said.
"Hopefully."
The walking was mostly done in silence. Jet wasn't sure what to talk about with Heyvl. He thought Heyvl felt the same, but he wasn't sure. He could have been thinking about the trip ahead.
"We'll be reaching the edge of the city soon," Heyvl finally said.
"Oh?" Jet replied.
"Maybe we can find somewhere to stay near there. It'll be night time before we get there."
Jet looked to the sun. He noticed it was sunset.
"So, why do you think the Emperor is looking for you?" Heyvl decided to ask. He wanted to keep conversation going.
Jet looked to Heyvl. It looked like Heyvl had been thinking about it for a while. He then looked to his hands. Focusing his Element, the pale green aura appeared.
"I figured to finish the job."
Heyvl frowned. He stopped walking to look at Jet. "Well we aren't going to let him. If you're that big of deal, then we have to insure your protection."
Jet smiled and nodded. "Thanks for wanting to help."
"I always thought the Empire was full of tyrants and evil people. So it feels good to do something to stop them from their actions."
Jet nodded at Heyvl's statement. He wasn't sure if the entire Empire followed the Emperor's example. He hoped they wouldn't.
The two of them approached the city edge as the sun was nearly gone. Jet and Heyvl stared out into the vast open land that stretched out before them. Jet scanned the distance. He couldn't see any difference in the land. It all looked the same for miles.
"Looks like a long way till we reach anywhere," Jet told Heyvl.
"The border isn't too far away. Probably a few miles over the horizon."
Jet had never dreamed of traveling so far. The land of Lonava felt intimidating, even if he was near the north end of it.
As Jet watched the sun slowly begin to fade away, he started to see the horizon fill with purple and black figures. "Are those souls?" he thought to himself, unsure of what he was seeing. As the figures filled the land, he realized they weren't souls, but instead members of the Imperial army.
"Are you seeing what I'm seeing?" Heyvl asked out loud.
"I am...they're surrounding the city."
Soon the open lands that outstretched before them were now occupied with men setting up tents and posts for their horses. Jet's hope of getting passed undetected faded away with the setting sun.

Blood Quest - A LitRPG
Leon's family has been diagnosed with a new type of incurable blood disease. It's an absolute death sentence and when it turns aggressive, you only have a few more years of painful life left to live. His mother has just begun the last years of the disease when a person supposedly comes back from death with supernatural abilities. He talks about a choice you get after death--get an extra chance to come back to life, or die. Even with Leon's diminishing life span, he won't consider the option of going there, until he meets another survivor who had the same goal as him and succeeded. Leon has a choice to make—die now for a chance to save his mother, or die in a few years, where the disease rapidly melts his muscles from his own body. He enters a game-like world, a sort of limbo, where his ultimate goal is to climb the tower of Katastroph before his mother's time runs out. There are a few problems with this though. The tower is almost impossible to beat, if you die you won't revive, and only three people in over twenty years have actually made it back. Leon has two years to climb the tower, with the help of the few people willing to try, while Ai, the tutorial guide, makes things harder for them. ***** The story starts pretty dark but goes onto a lighter tone. Then (more) dark again. Disclaimer: This story is an experimental project and I hope to get any and all feedback you can give me. Warning: First draft. Chapters tend to be between 3400-4100 words long (about 8-11 A4-pages). Mentioning it since I've seen it in other fictions :P Sometimes they're shorter, sometimes they're longer. ******************************** CHAPTER RELEASES UPDATE: As the first "book" in the series is done, I'm going to release coming chapters somewhat sporadically, and when Writathon ends, I'll probably go back to publishing one chapter per weekend. We'll just have to wait and see! I hope you enjoy the story! I really appreciate all comments and feedback, so if you have anything to say, feel free to voice it :) ************ [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
