THE CHILDHOOD OF THIS NON-OP NPC
**Please blame my naming sense…**
Michael was rather conflicted at the moment. It had been 2 years since he shocked a portion of the mothers in the town he was staying in and only now was he given a choice to see the outside of his home. The other children were always brought to his house so he never got to see the outside which he thought was unfair. He still heard some stories from the other children after they learned to talk as well. Two of the boys, Robert and William, were quite talkative once they got the knack of it and they told story after story to Michael. Michael didn’t believe half of the stories since they had a habit of telling of fire breathing dragons and other fairytales Michael heard from his mother. The last boy, Arthur, was rather quiet but Michael always saw his eyes take in anything new whenever he visited. Michael concluded the boy was smart. Or just really distracted.
Of the two girls, Mary was always tagging along the two storytellers and trying to beat them at telling the best story. Michael decided to call those three the ‘Three Fools of the Infants’. The last girl was Elizabeth or Eliza, and she was also quiet but kept close enough to the group to hear and take in everything. She also kept looking away from Michael which made him decide she didn’t like him. Or he smelled.
Michael’s dilemma was when he was allowed to play with the other kids outside, under some supervision. He also was given a choice at staying inside and studying under his parents. He had to choose between a new adventure or...another new adventure. Michael’s concentration was strained as he thought about this for a few days. Countless boxes appeared in front of Michael but he was already used to ignoring them. Actually those boxes made Michael lean towards studying in order to learn how to read and find out what the boxes said.
Choosing to study, Michael was finally allowed to enter the Alchemy room and the training room. Under his parents Michael was learning both of their trades; a Warrior’s trade and an Alchemist’s trade. It seemed his parent met when his father was injured and poisoned after a battle. His mother treated his wounds and the poison and they had a relationship soon after. Michael didn’t understand the last part but he knew that an Alchemist could heal a person. Learning the trade seemed to be a good start.
First though was reading. When Michael asked about it, his mother decided that wasting time on teaching it was a bad idea and passed a book to Michael. Michael gave a skeptical look (he learned that rather easily).
“Place your hand on the book and say ‘Learn’. When you have done it correctly you should know.”
‘How can anyone do that incorrectly???’
Michael erased his dissatisfaction at being treated like a baby again. He placed his hand on the book and shouted (with some satisfaction) “LEARN”.
The book glowed under his hand and he was shocked. A second shock came when the book disintegrated into small lights and rushed towards him in a rush.

You have gained the skill ‘Language Comprehension’
You have gained comprehension of the language “Human”. ‘Language Comprehension’ has gained experience. ‘Language Comprehension’ has leveled up.
Language Comprehension[p=left]You are able to learn various languages as you hear it. At the same time, this skill will grant the ability to read and write in that language.

“Ohhh my baby is so excellent. Never leaves me disappointed.”
Michael’s mother was buoyant with pride at Michael’s ‘accomplishment’. Michael however was reading the box that appeared in front of him.
“Mama, what are these boxes that appear in front of me?”
As the boxes disappeared, Michael’s mother gave another adoring look at Michael and started to explain.
“In the past, all of the races of Gaia was born in different ways. They were also all ignorant of themselves and this caused destruction when some of the races overused their strengths. Seeing this, the all-Goddess, Janira gave the sentient races a way for them to keep track of their growth. These boxes in midair tell us what we have gained when we accomplish various tasks. Just say ‘SHOW STATUS’ to see your own limits and ‘SHOW SKILLS’ to see what you have properly learned. There are other ways to get more information but those two are what everyone can make do with. If you want to know more, go to the church of information and ask them. Not now though, we are going to start studying.”
Michael decided to not use those two phrases till he was alone and instead started to study.
After a long day of studying, Michael was told he would be training under his father tomorrow. Before going to sleep Michael thought of all the work he had done today.
After studying and learning, you have gained the skill ‘Alchemy’
You have gained +10 to wisdom and intelligence from learning ‘Alchemy’
After studying and learning, you have gained the skill ‘Herbology’
You have gained +7 to wisdom and intelligence from learning ‘Herbology’
Alchemy. Beginner level 2. (23%) Active skill[p=left]This skill allows for you to be able to create healing and poisonous concoctions. There is also a rumour that the skill can create potions with incredible enchantments but such knowledge is unavailable at this time.
Healing potions are 5% more effective per level.
Poisons last 10% longer per level.[/p]
Herbology. Beginner level 1. (67%) Passive skill[p=left]This skill allows for you to analyze the various properties of plants and come up with an estimate of its uses and effectiveness. At higher levels you may even be able to create new potions just by glancing at the plant and thinking of its uses.
Can see 1 property of a plant for every 5 levels.
Potions and poisons are 5% more effective for every level.[/p]
Michael was shocked to see the speed of his training. Until he was told that there were five ranks of skills. Beginner - Intermediate - Expert - Master - God. He was kind of shocked at the God rank but was told it was really rare to see a person reach that rank. Legend tells of only 10 god ranked people and there were hundreds of skills and millions of people. Simple math tells the impossibility of gaining that rank. If he could do math.

Michael was initially deterred but decided that it was a good goal in life. He wanted at least one God ranked skill and would do his best. After reading a few more books before going to sleep, Michael decided to finally check out his skills.
“Show status.”

Michael didn’t understand most of what was posted but he did remember the Willpower and Concentration stat. He attributed the stat to his not being distracted every 10 seconds like his counterparts.
Michael is probably the strongest 2 year old Human in the world…

He barely understood those as well but he recognized them all. Michael decided it was enough and he went to sleep.
Michael was woken rather early by a loud crash followed by a fall of water on his head. Even if he was a smart 2 year old, Michael was shocked at both the events and eventually started to cry. Michael’s father was looking down at him helplessly. It seemed this was the usual way to wake a trainee up and Michael’s father went a little too far when he did it to a 2 year old. Then Michael’s mother appeared. Lets just say it was a chaotic morning. Michael’s father was denied something that Michael didn’t understand, something about making friends with his hand for the next month.
A sullen father brought Michael to the training room. The room consisted of racks of weapons with their corresponding wooden versions on one side of the room. At the far end was a row of wooden/straw men, 7 in all just standing upright. They each had a buckler attached to one side. On another side there were shelves filled with books and even a desk for writing. A door was locked behind the targets.
“These are scarecrows. Normally we would use them to scare off pests that try to eat the crops, but they are sturdy enough to also be used for combat training. Now what weapon would you like to try?”
Michael’s father had a feverish light in his eyes when he asked the question. Michael too was a little excited at finally wielding a weapon. He was also hesitant at using a useless one. Scanning the racks, Michael decided to use ‘it’.
“Instant analyzation.”
After whispering the words, Michael also tried to fit the seconds with a 2:1 ratio. Actually he didn’t really know what he was doing but he was thinking he wanted twice as much time to study the weapons.
Time slowed. Michael noticed the little discrepancies around him. The Scarecrows had visible weaknesses that were catalogued and listed in his head. The wooden weapons had minute problems in them which told of a shoddy touch. He also noted a metal core within some of the weapons so he knew they were weighted for training.
Michael also noted various details. Some of the weapons seemed to have been used alot. The wood around the hilt was worn and the blade areas were chipped and cracked. The metal cores even seemed to be the only things keeping the weapon together.
Some of the weapons hadn’t been used at all as well. A noticeable curved blade was still shining from polish and there was barely a chip on it. The handle was unused. Another notice was that the blade would be unusable for piercing, but would be a good slashing blade. To compensate...those daggers at the far end would be -
Michael’s concentration was cut off as the time limit of the skill was finished. Only a few minutes was used but he did manage to get quite a bit of information off of it.
“Can I use that curved blade there? And the dagger?”
Michael looked up innocently at his father. His breathing was rather ragged but his father didn’t notice. In fact, his father was breathing rather heavily as well as he was gazing at his weapon collection.
“Hrm? Uhhhh, oh. Alright, yes. Are you sure though? The sword was an experiment by a friend across the city. It does have good strength but is quite difficult to use. Also the daggers are small and would need close proximity to use…”
Michael didn’t understand the last part but he knew that both were barely used. Good enough for him.
“Yes. The curved sword would be good for slashing and the daggers would be good for piercing or if anyone gets too close.
Michael’s father was nodding and thinking about the uses of both. In the end he gave an affirmative grunt and brought the wooden weapons to Michael.
“Here, since no one close has any idea on how to use them, you can go ahead and just find your own style. Use the training dummies over there and find a good fit. Since you are using two weapons make sure to give enough time for both.”
When Michael touched the blades, two boxes appeared in front of both. Instant analyzation’s second good use.
Wooden Dagger[p=left]Durability: 83/100
Damage: 2-4
A wooden dagger made by an average woodcutter. There is a metal core in the middle which strengthens the durability of this weapon. Damage stays the same due to the blunted soft wood.
Knowledge of the weapon grants a decrease in Durability loss.[/p]
Again more stuff Michael didn’t know. Durability? And the last part was a mystery. How about the sword…
Wooden ???[p=left]Durability: 150/150
Damage: 7-12
A wooden curved blade. It is unknown what the name or type of blade it is but the original was made by an eccentric blacksmith. A wooden version was then made in order to train a style for it. There is a metal core in the center which strengthens durability without increasing damage. Due to the style of the blade it is useless to stab with it.
Piercing techniques do 1% damage.
Knowledge of the weapon grants a decrease in Durability loss.[/p]
Errr more of a mystery.
Michael’s father nodded towards the dummies and Michael proceeded towards the far end of the room. These dummies would woe the bad luck of having Michael as an opponent. Michael also decided to find better sayings in the various books around the house.
Back to the past!
Onward! To the glorious future!

The Lord of Staves
"Where do we go when we die?" "To Drasil, of course!" You all know the story by now. This isn't a story about that. In fact, our protagonist doesn't even have combat abilities! Follow his story as he fend himself off against entire nations as a mere craftsman. ---------- Old Synopsis ---------- Follow the adventures of a young(?) man, who after dying from being run over by a train, finds himself reincarnated into a world of magic, mystical creatures and the all too familiar game mechanics. The Fundamentals
You hear of many tales out there. Some depict worthy heroes wielding tremendous power, noble personas that fight to save the lives of their close friends, family, and all the rest. Good triumphs over evil, that is simply the way the world works, no? While this premise is something inherent to nearly all stories, what exactly the heroes used to attain success can differ greatly. Perhaps they've trained themselves to the limit, pushing past boundaries nobody else could hope to achieve. Others still, have merely inherited the grand legacy of another legendary being, but what they have done with such a legacy would cause their names to be passed on for generations. Rowan is one of the heroes who have ventured beyond the horizon, tempering themselves on a perilous journey all the while and succeeding in attaining strength beyond measure. However, in an unexpected turn of events, this strength caused him to tear open and fall through a hole in the realm he resided in. Now he has ended up in a completely foreign realm, whose inhabitants utilized strange powers that eclipsed his own. Fortune would smile upon him this day, however, as he discovered that they were not hostile, and even offered to teach him their ways. Rowan could see that this was truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and eagerly accepted their invitation to learn what would come to be known as: The Fundamentals.
