《Grimoire's Soul》Bonus Worldbuilding Chapter 3: Animals of Kesterline
Advertisement
Kesterline is extremely large, with plenty of biodiversity to go around. Many animals we know of are in Kesterline, but also some unfamiliar animals as well.
Where there are Polar Bears, Caribou, and Walrus…
Mammoth Bears: Megafauna, but for polar bears. They have been known to hibernate for years, and are one of the few “endangered” animals in this world. Throkes: Long serpent like beings with thick, rubbery fat. They are considered a seadragon/ sea serpent. Comparable to seals, sea lions and walruses, only thirty feet long. Arctic Tortoise: A tortoise adapted to living in the arctic, its shell is covered in fur. It has a particularly sharp beak, which it uses to burrow its head underground in search for roots to eat. Daggerfly: a relative of the mosquito family, they often hunt in swarms. Their bite is like ice. Worble: A big fat roly poly mammal with thick fur and a thick padded head. They are herbivores whose mode of defense is extending its head out and back, like a retractable hammer. It has, on occasion, been known to roll away from its predators.
Where there are Elk, Beaver and Bison…
Dragon Squirrel: a large squirrel with two sets of arms, it can climb up trees, and has been known to grow to large enough sizes to be mistaken as a furry human. Still an herbivore, and has a prehensile tail. Fresk: A small, squat, rodent, with pronounced tusks and a skull that gives it the image of having constant angry eyebrows. Grizzly Tiger: They said it couldn’t be done. Well, it could. Run. Prime Butterfly: It is noted for a brilliant black zigzag pattern, and sheer white wings. Waterhorse: More akin to a deer than a horse, it has 1-3 horns on its head, and is suspected to be the inspiration for the myth of unicorns. Mammoth Fox: Megafauna, but for a fox. Often will be found mingling with wolves.

Where there are Brown Bears, Mountain Lions and Timber Wolves…
Dragon Snail: it is lorge, and is frequently found hanging upside down in caves. Toadhog: Similar to a hedgehog, but its prickles will attract and naturally grow fungus, which the creature will use to feed to its young. Also larger than a hedgehog. Listran Gull: an annoying bird that refuses to stop making noise, and fucks a lot. We will be better for it when it dies off. Mistybees: nonstinging bees that pollinate flowers. Instead of collecting honey in hive, they populate at the base of a tree, and turn the pollination into a fertilizer that helps the tree grow, as well as being a source of food. Wildkit: an offshoot of cats, they were trained and bred to hunt animals.
Where there are Coyotes, Prairie Dogs and Rattlesnakes…
Green Elephants: not actually green, but called so anyway, due to it having a slightly blue hue. They are slightly shaggy, and are thinner compared to other elephants, but still have the signature large trunk and ears. Mammoth Grouse: Not actually megafauna, it’s just a really big bird inaccurately labeled as megafauna. Wedfow: A cow-like creature with hulking shoulders and horns that curl around its jaw. Its cheese and milk are considered a delicacy, but mostly due to how much of a pain it is to milk it. Desert Crab: They burrow underground, and do not need water to survive. They are not actually crustaceans, nor are they actually native to the typical desert. They do prefer arid climates, and they do have hard outer shells with meat on the inside. They also have incredibly long whiskers that have light poison qualities to them, allowing them to paralyze smaller prey. They can grow up to three feet. Omnivore. Arthropod.

Where there are Gila Monsters, Roadrunners, and Turkey Vultures…
Twiggy Mouse: A two tailed mouse with spikes coming out of its back. It is often used to camoflage with cactuses. Obsidian Owl: an owl of dark black/brown feathers, it roosts on cliffsides, and hunts coyotes and other owls. Dustcrawler: an insect that keeps low to the ground, its powerful hind legs will kick up the dirt to get away. Glistening Band: a snake with unique venomous properties--it will temporarily turn the affected area partially transparent. Creates the visceral image of being able to see your veins seize up through your transparent muscle and skin.
Where there are Toucans, Anteaters and Jaguars…
Destine Butterfly: A butterfly with wings that are so sharp and fine they’re almost made of glass. Their wings are often used for incredibly fine blades, for things like surgery and torture and murdering soft and tiny animals. Andrea's Parotia: A bird so rare, only one has ever been seen or recorded. It is three feet tall, and has brilliant red and pink plumage. Nothing else is known. Firemites: a type of termite that can breathe fire. Dartwing Moth: A type of moth with brilliant colors and emanate a poison as it flies. It is damaging to most nature, save for a few flowers of which the moth is known to rest on.

Ode to Fallen Angels
Jericho, the land of humanity, squirms in pain. Magic has been forbidden for so long in this so called "Age of Silence", that all Arcane knowledge has been presumed lost and irrecoverable, and the echoes of God's Will grow fainter with every passing year. The sight of Demihuman caravans is less frequent every day, as the likes of orcs and elves have learned to no longer beg for help from those who despise them. Clearly, they can expect more from the voracious wild lands than from humankind. Many have succumbed to despair, some driven mad by their fruitless efforts to bring back a Golden Age that they only ever read about in books. And in the middle of it all, in an old chapel lost in the Eastern lands, young Gabrielle lives in complete ignorance. She is another orphan living under the mercy of the Church of the Saints; one bearing the mark of evil in her red hair, the telltale sign of a Witch. In an Age of the Silent, the Prejudiced, and the Hateful, she clings to a single hope: that one day, be it in life or maybe after it all ends, she may find herself forgiven of her sin. The sin of being born.

Memories of the Bean Times
To those who have survived: I write this now, for I fear my death is imminent. Barnabas Schmidt wasn't serious when he said he knew what was going on in Paris. Thomas Sauer wasn't expecting to put his life on the line studying a mysterious disease. Julia Krause wasn't trying to join a cult. And the Holy Roman Empire wasn't prepared to fight the Beans. In the year 1587, the small farming village of Dijon in the Kingdom of France is attacked by seemingly immortal monsters made out of baked beans. As Schmidt fights against the Beans on the front lines, the Beans steadily approach the Empire's borders. As Sauer searches for the Beans' weaknesses, the Church of the Beanmeister paves the way for the arrival of the God. As Krause helps the Church, she begins to question her loyalty to the Beanmeister. Updates every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Chapters are available earlier on the Bean Times website: https://beantimes.github.io
