《Dungeon Core Abi》Chapter 15 : Noir and Carrie

On the way home Dum and Dee are discussing what their master will say, after they had managed to successfully cross the river running north of Abi's mountain.
Upon crossing the slow moving water they wait just before the treeline to dry off a bit before heading back, both still a little hesitant to know what Abi will say about Dee's broken dagger.
"Why did it have to break?" He poses the question to himself more than his partner.
"They're cheap and rusty, don't worry about it, the Boss'll understand. We've had 'em ever since she summoned us so they were bound to break at some point, especially when we're trying to take down enemies like those boars." Dum tries to cheer up his partner, who's looking a little dejected.
"I just... it's special you know." Dee says with sadness in his voice.
"Don't be daft, it's just a dagger."
"Give me yours then." Dee holds out his hand and Dum recoils faster than a Leipold.
"No, it's mine!" He exclaims whilst almost hugging his weapon.
"See, you get what I mean now, right? It's more.. sentimental, I was created with this weapon for it to be used to serve my master any way that it can and now..." He trails off leaving his bittersweet words hanging in the air.
Before Dum can once more try to console his trusted partner the overgrowth behind them starts to rustle and both Rogues spring into action taking separate hidden positions to maximise their chance of a stealth attack.
"Come out you idiots, I heard ya talking a moment ago. It's me, Veris, I'm with the adorable Sweet A and the beautiful Sweet B." The new voice shouts out.
Drawn out at the mention of the first-floor Boss monster, Dum and Dee reluctantly reveal themselves and kneel before Veris to appreciate her status in the dungeon.
"Veris, how come you are not protecting the first floor? Is the master safe?" Eager to know about the place he calls home, Dee blurts out his thoughts to the three Vagabonds before him.
"Yea, Boss is fine. She created some more voracious Vagabonds and now I can rotate with them, meaning I get to come out and kill things." She snickers joyfully to herself, then notices the broken blade in Dee's hand." What happened there?"
"He broke it inside a large Boar that we managed to kill." Dum happily belittles his partner, whilst boasting of their victory, to the monsters a tier above him.
"Well done, I'm sure the Boss will be pleased with your efforts, here." She tosses Dee one of her old Rusty Daggers. "The boss has had an upgrade of sorts, so I won't be needing that one anymore and I'm sure you can put it to good use."
Dee's face lights up at the prospect of not having to tell his master that his blade has broken anymore.
Veris eyes him as he catches the blade before ending their conversation with, "Don't disappoint me now."
"Okay, come on you two sexy beasts, Mama's got shit to kill," Veris comments to the two named Sweets beside her before disappearing back into the overgrowth.
"I thought you said these blades were special, you're happy as hell now you've got Veris's," Dum questions his now jubilant partner who appears to be grinning ear to ear.
"Shut up fool, I've got one of Boss's daggers now and neither of us has to tell the master we couldn't carry our loot or that my dagger broke. In fact, do you know what, to quote Veris, I also feel like killing 'shit' "

"Alright but we don't have that long left, let's stay close to the dungeon." Dum reminds his companion.
"Okay. Hey, w-what do you think she meant by that last bit?" Dee asks with a touch of hesitation in his voice.
"I don't know, but do you intend to disappoint anyone?" Dum asks back smugly.
"Don't be ridiculous, I'm a natural killing machine, I am! I'm definitely gonna kill more than you in..." Dee boldly declares all hints of fear or hesitation gone at the slight mockery from his friend, before asking "..how long's left again?"
Dum lets out a hearty laugh before reminding his partner of their deadline and with that, they head into the woods that surround Mount Morte, the home of Dungeon Core Abi.
The Adventures of Dum and Dee:
Part 2
Shadow Walkers.
If I was still a human, would I have become one of these super cool looking people standing, or kneeling, before me?
I was a Rogue, could I have gotten this far?
Noir looks as though he should be some type of royalty, whereas Carrie is cold and distant and in more ways than one, fits the bill for an evil sorceress title. Whether it's regal or ruthless, both look phenomenal and the added beauty brought by yours truly makes them picture perfect.
"Master, I beg of you to command me!" Noir once more shouts out, echoing through my dungeon and catching himself another side-eye stare from his partner Carrie. He's no longer got a fist to his chest but rather he's clutching at the very lovely shirt he is wearing instead in sheer anticipation.
"Woah they're... beautiful just... like me?" Peaches, who has just heard and seen their arrival, is in about as much awe as I am as her human-slime eyes are bulging and her mouth is open larger than any human mouth should actually be capable of opening.
I wish I could gawp like her, I just shine.
Damn beautiful Slime.
Her words gave me a pause for a moment before pulling me back to reality as I actually thought she asked a question for a moment. I then remembered that's just how she is, adorably pink and a brand new kind of stupid, I still love you though Peaches.
It doesn't matter if you talk like a bit of a loony, you're half Slime and 100% gorgeous so that's all you will ever need to be for me.
"MASTER!"
"YES, Noir, I can hear you. Gods, I was just...thinking." I managed to give, what I thought was, a fairly decent reply. I wasn't going to come straight out and say 'you took my breath away' or 'I was hoping I could open my mouth like Peaches one day' was I.
"Where are your weapons?" Ha, that makes it appear as though I was actually in deep thought. Neither one of the Shadows has a weapon on them unless Carrie is concealing hers somewhere or they're both martial artists?
They answer my question with actions instead of words, both reach out into a pocket dimension and retrieve magnificent looking weapons that complement the status of the outfits they each wear.
If Peaches' mouth opens any further, she'll be munching out on dungeon.
Noir has an exceptionally long spear, made from what looks to be the same dark oak as the Retreat and golden engravings cover the entire pole from top to bottom. A large spearhead is sharpened to perfection on one end and there is a red sash wrapped around the bottom, with the familiar A set in black, on the other. The oak wood itself looks incredibly durable and as soon as he starts to manoeuvre his weapon, throwing some casual moves out there as though it was child's play, I am assured of his skill with it too.

Carrie on the other hand has the nicest sword I have ever had the privilege of laying my eyes upon. A golden pommel with the same golden crossguard features small red gems, that I'm sure are mana stones, which sit in perfect symmetry with each other around the hilt of the blade. The steel blade looks as though it is made from diamonds as it shines almost as bright as the creation of my monsters does. It is a double-edged blade with the sole features being the letter A engraved on both sides just by the handle.
Why can't I summon these weapons but I can summon the one that Talia got?
These are unique weapons only possessed by these two individuals. No copies will be able to be made by anyone.
I suppose they wouldn't be unique then would they? Still, that's some bull right there, Me! If I could give each of the new monsters a weapon like these that would be amazing.
Yes, but that does not necessarily mean they would know how to wield such a weapon. These weapons were created during the summoning process for no extra cost, that is rather amazing, wouldn't you agree?
I cannot fault you there, Me.
You know, sometimes you give great advice.
Only sometimes?
Well, you're not always Mr Info, you know. Sometimes you can be witty or at other times a little melodramatic, like earlier. You can tell jokes and you can get grouchy.
So? What's your point?
Do you want to know?
Yes.
Really?
Yes.
Are you sure?
Abi! Yes, now tell me, please.
That's my point Me.
You want to know.
Is that even right?
Do you understand what I'm saying?
Not in the slightest.
Ahhh, well it's...
"Master, does my weapon please you." Noir shouts out, while still flaunting his skill, causing my Core to blush momentarily and my jade ball to flicker.
"Don't shout it like that, you big pervert!" I yell back harshly, silencing the princely Shadow who deftly stops his movements falling to his knee once more, Carrie snickers at this and once again side eyes him.
Is that just her thing, prince loudmouth got all the words and she got the looks?
Once again Me, we will shelf this conversation for later.
It makes no difference to me.
Hehe, stop it I have to get on with sorting these two out, I swear you do it on purpose sometimes.
"Ahem... Okay, good. That was a good display of skill, thank you." Noir's mood perks up and he begins to open his mouth. "However, I make the dirty jokes around here. I don't need to be hearing about your weapon," I inform him, which gets another snicker from Carrie.
Noir closes his mouth but still beams with pride over what I said about his skill. "Okay Noir?"
"Yes master, I will not talk about my long weapon." He once more salutes me with his clenched fist as I flicker before him.
I swear my core will turn red at rate.
"What did I just say?" I scold him once again.
"Not to talk about my... Oh. I am sorry Master, it's hard to describe otherwise. It's just very long and pointy on the end, super hard with the thickest shaft you've eve... "
"NOIR!!! WHY THE HELL ARE YOU STILL DESCRIBING IT? I SWEAR TO ANYONE LISTENING, THAT I WILL DISMANTLE YOU RIGHT NOW UNLESS THE ONLY THING YOU EVER CALL THAT WEAPON IS A GOD'S DAMN SPEAR!!!"
I think that was the first time I've gotten really angry since becoming a dungeon. I've had some temper tantrums and a few wailing sessions, I've even had some crass words for the system before but that was actual anger at the embarrassment that was starting to build up.
I felt it.
My monsters felt it.
I can even sense through the bond I share with Me, that my partner felt it too.
I was knocked out of Manifestation mode after I started shouting and I can now see that every one of the monsters in my dungeon are on their knees.
It wasn't intentional, don't hate me.
Ahem...
Oh, right.
Popping Manifestation mode back on I reappear before Noir and the now not so icy Carrie. For someone so domineering how can she be scared of little old me?
"Your job is to get stronger, both of you. Go out and kill monsters, anything worth a good amount of XP and if you can, store it whole for when you come back. Got it?"
"Yes, master." They reply in unison before disappearing into the shadows beneath them.
Oh shit, that was one of the coolest things I've ever seen.
"Woah that was... amazing!" Peaches snap her mouth back up declaring boldly and hell, who am I to say otherwise, I was thinking the same damn thing.
"Peaches, what do you think I should do next?" I ask the cutie beside me.
"What do... you mean?" She asks back. Obviously, my question was way too vague for her.
Stupid Abi.
"I meant shall I create another monster or a building, or should I work on the fourth floor, adding rooms and tunnels to it?" I ask before remembering "Or, would you like your own room with a few more Slimes?"
"My... own room..." she ponders.
That actually sounded cohesive, even though it only had three words.
"Yeah, if you want you can have the room before the Boss on the fourth floor? You don't have to stay down there though, you can always relax up here unless there's an intruder in the dungeon."
"Intruder?" She asks.
Suddenly I'm really glad that I can't make Peaches a floor Boss.
Gods, she's adorable but she's about as clever as Koniva's Biceps.
"Don't worry, it's not important Peaches, forget I said anything. Why don't you and..." I've just realised that I haven't named the other four Vagabonds I summoned for Veris.
Once again.
Stupid, stupid, Dungeon Core.
"That's Sweet C and that's... Sweet D's." Peaches is quick to point out her knowledge about the people in my dungeon.
"I didn't name them that and why is it D's, should it just be D for the singular?" I ask curiosity getting the better of me over the pronunciation of a name.
"Veris named... them, she's got... Sweet A and Sweet B... with her and she left C and... D's with me." She manages to get out before exclaiming "and it D's because... of her massive breasts... Veris said."
Of course, she did.
She is a bit... different as you pointed out before.
That couldn't be truer.
How's Barry getting along on the second floor Me?
He has a rather large cave going on I believe. I cannot actually view the inside but from the outside, it looks rather large. The cave system on the first floor however has started to close up.
What?
How?
I am unsure if the actual cave system itself is healing but the walls of your dungeon are closing in, sealing off Barry's previous digging location.
Well, I suppose that's actually good now that he's not up there anymore. I'll have to make sure he doesn't get trapped off down here though by reminding him to keep checking out my entrance every once in a while.
Just because I'm a bit flush, I purchase ten Iron chests for the cutie Colin and place them in my Core Room adjacent to the other ten. All of this will be moving shortly as I am going to use the rest of my points on the fourth floor.
Unlocking another chest upgrade I release my manifestation and enter my dungeon overview mode.
After spending time moving around however I like, I'm beginning to hate this view. Although it seems darker than I remember it being last time, that's probably my imagination.
I get to work and it goes rather smoothly, finishing roughly five minutes after starting. The floor is another rectangular layout that drops down to avoid collisions with four small rooms added on to make up the count and a fifth large room at the very bottom. I haven't added any monsters yet as I'm hoping to earn a half-price feature from the Boss's placement and the low count of zero monsters that are currently on this floor.
Not wanting to spend all my DP on monsters, even though there are still some I haven't even begun to purchase, I set every tunnel and room on this floor to possess the free web feature. I follow up with nine Sticky Spiders, the same as my mini-boss in the Wonderful Womb of Web before I place them in one of the second-floor hallways and unlock the third evolution in the spider's line.
A new Monster has been unlocked:
Reaping Spider: 12DP
New loot unlocked:
Gorgeous Silk: 6DP
That will do nicely, well not nicely because I bet it looks scary as hell but you know what I mean.
Summoning the spider, it is still brought into my dungeon through the regular blue summoning light.
I was expecting a different colour like the Shadow Walkers but it makes no difference for the purpose of the intended monster.
My new Reaping Spider is placed in the Boss room but I don't receive the same notification as before. In fact this time it's even better, although it's hard to focus on with the large black spider looming in the room.
Two scythe-like legs protrude from the front of the small body of the spider, with six regular legs looming hairily behind them. The top half of a human is centred above these legs and a large bulbous abdomen is sat at the back. The human half has only one feature and its whole upper body is as hairy as the rest of it. A large smile opens within a face of grizzly fur and sinisterly declares me its "Master."
That is some creepy shit right there.
If I was still a human I may have even died from shock on the spot.
Optional Choice:
Make the Reaping Spider the Boss of the Fourth Floor
Because of the low amount of monsters on this floor accepting this decision will summon 10 Baby Spiders as minions for the Reaping Spider at half the original Dungeon Point cost
Yes/No?
I hit confirm and Bam that's 10 willies for Sam.
Oh, that's what I decided to call the scary hairy being that now guards my fourth floor, Samantula, but Sam for short. The 9 Sticky Spiders that I summoned before Sam are brought down from the second floor finishing off this Boss Room. This puts the total spider count at twenty for this room alone, spiders are ridiculously cheap!
Moving on, the stairwell goes in the same place as the rest of them and I watch as it spirals down creating the fifth floor. This time I'm going with the same type of room as the Wolves Den, but without the forest. I'm going to create a large pitch-black room so that if anyone ever reaches here, which is unlikely, they won't be able to see anything or anyone. This will slow any attackers down as they won't be able to spot any of the tunnels across the span of the room.
Fifth Floor has been created:
5 XP Awarded
New features have been unlocked:
Seeds: 1DP
Rooms can now be placed adjacent to each other with wall partitions removed to create more space
Passive Skill Regeneration has reached Level 7:
DP has increased to a rate of 3.5 per hour
That feature will prove extremely useful in the days to come for my first floor.
Seeds though?
I got fertile soil before too, is she expecting me to become a farmer or something? It's bad enough that I don't have a body anymore, the last thing I want now is to be covered in manure.
I return to my plan and add a tunnel, followed by a room, at the north end of the spacious fifth-floor area. For now, this will be the location of my new Core Room. In here I add everything from my old room, all of the chests, the very cute 'not a chest' Colin and my jade diamond itself that has grown to a very nice size compared to when it was in the entrance. Back then it was the size of a gemstone that would sit in a necklace or on a ring, now it is the size of a fist and has a very strong pulse. My gorgeous green heart is now a considerable distance away from the surface and I have to say, I'm very proud of what I have accomplished. Not just the creation of my dungeon, but managing to keep my shit together with everything that's happened to me and that rest that is probably yet to come.
With another floor done it's time to check my stats but interruptions are the salt to my pepper in this dungeon and once more it seems like dinner time.
First Time Absorption Bonus:
Let's see who's back early this time, did I give them much time with 8 hours each?
We'll see.
Popping Manifestation mode instead of viewing my entrance the Dungeon Core is back in the house.
Abi's Status.

33 Rooms

Paternum: A Superhero Story
When Quinn finds an experimental superpower-granting costume in their parents’ attic, they didn’t expect to be drawn into a web of superhuman intrigue, but their discovery serves as the catalyst for that conspiracy to slowly unravel. At it’s heart, Paternum is an extended coming-of-age story for the main character as they become a superhero, in a world with more reasonable stakes and less powerful heroes than many superheroic worlds. Themes include what art means to different people, and what it means to be a patron, whether as a sponsor, a parent, or a supporter. I consider Paternum‘s primary influences to be the various versions of Spider-Man, J. C. McCrae’s own superhero story Worm, and Drew Hayes’ story SuperPowereds. I hope that fans of such stories can find something to enjoy in mine as well. Paternum is primarily hosted on my website (thevoidwrites.com) where it updates weekly in groups of scenes totalling approximately 2000 words. Here on Royal Road, it will update once daily with one scene at a time, but only after each act is completed on the home site - the next batch of updates is scheduled to begin on February 5th. There is a discord channel for discussion (discordapp.com/invite/QFMM6yA), and you can vote for Paternum on topwebfiction (topwebfiction.com/vote.php?for=paternum) as well. Finally, you can buy the first book of Paternum, The Swift Uplifting Rush, in a couple different ways - as an ebook through Amazon, or directly from me for a discounted price, or as a physical paperback from Amazon. Buying the book will give you access to Drawing Hands, an exclusive arc that won't ever be published on either my site or Royal Road.
