《The Dweeb Prince and the Eight Cursed Princesses》CHAPTER 22: A FAIRY'S DAY OFF

One night, while I was reading a book on my bed, Pixie entered my room.
"I'm bored..." she complained and landed beside me with a pout.
"Weren't you playing 'Uekimon Sword' in the living room?" I asked, my eyes still fixed on the book.
"I can't find the uekimon I want so I decided to take a break," she answered and rolled around the bed.
"What uekimon?"
"Onioknight," she responded and looked up to me.
"That's hard to encounter there alright," I replied and remembered something. Then, I looked at Pixie and questioned, "Didn't Cindy want to borrow a book about cooking?"
Hearing that, Pixie lifted her body upright and replied, "Correct. About baking different kinds of cake, right?"
"I almost forgot," I muttered and placed a bookmark on the page I've stopped. After that, I closed the book and placed it on top of the nightstand. Then, I stood up. "I'll grab it at the library. You?"
"I'll stay here," she followed and lay down again.
"Okay," I said and exited the room.
★Pixie’s Point-of-View★
When Prince left the room, a familiar tone rang throughout the room. It came from the drawer of Prince's nightstand.
"Someone is calling?" I whispered and flew towards the source. Then, I opened the drawer and saw Prince's smartphone. The screen revealed Cindy as the caller. I immediately pressed the answer button and answered, "Hello? Cindy?"
"That voice? Pixie? Is that you?" Cindy asked on the other side of the phone.
"Correct," I responded with a smile. "Prince went to the library for a second. Should I call him?"
"Well, I only want to ask him if he found the cookbook I mentioned earlier."
"That? That's what he grabbed in the library. I saw it before so I'm sure it's there."
"I see. That's all I want to say. Thanks, Pixie. And give my thanks to Prince too."
"Weren't you gonna wait for him?"
"I still got homework to do so I only called him to ask about that. But say to him that he can call me back if he wants to say something."
"Okay. I'll relay that message," I replied with a smile.
"Thank you, Pixie. See you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow," I followed and ended the call. Then, I noticed a picture beside the cellphone. It was a collage of a little younger Prince and a certain girl in a ponytail. Prince was blushing while trying to make a serious face and the girl was smiling happily. One look at the picture and you can see how close they were. Something between friends and lovers if I was not mistaken. The picture was kinda worn out though.
Who is this girl?
Curious, I grabbed the picture and the door opened.
"Found it," Prince said and walked towards me. Then, he stopped with a shocked look and let go of the cooking book. "That's..."
"Who is this girl?" I asked in a clueless face and showed him the picture.
He immediately stormed towards me, grabbed the picture, and placed it back inside. Then, he closed the drawer and looked at me with an offended look.
"Why did you look at that?" Prince asked, looking straight into my eyes.
"Is something wrong about that?"
“Of course there is!” he shouted and immediately became shocked after.
Prince...is angry...
"Sorry..." I apologized sadly and looked down. "Cindy called and...I saw that picture..."

His shoulders twitched after hearing that and sighed after.
"Sorry, Pixie. I shouldn't have--"
Then, as if my body moved on its own, I flew away and went out of the room.
"Pixie?"
After a quarter of minute of flying away, I finally realized what I did.
“Huh?” I reacted when I arrived in the stairs. There, I noticed the tears dropping from my eyes. “Why am I crying?”
I wiped my tears using an arm and hid behind the stairs. I sat down in the corner and let out a deep sigh.
“It was my first time making Prince angry so I guess I cried because of that,” I whispered to myself and hugged my knees. “I need to apologize.”
“Pixie!” Prince called as he descended the stairs. The sound of his steps reverberated as he hurriedly came down.
I decided to call for Prince but when I opened my mouth, no words came out.
Huh? Why? What's wrong with me?
Because of my silence, he went past the area and left without noticing me.
“Am I still scared to apologize to him?” I muttered and hugged my legs once again.
♛ Prince's Point-of-View ♛
“Why did I even raised my voice to Pixie?” I tsked as I look for her in the living room. “I’m an idiot.”
I tried to look at every corner of the room, even the possible narrow hiding place where she could’ve entered. But I didn’t saw her.
“You looking for something?” Bella asked with a smile after appearing behind me with a smile. She was wearing canary yellow pajama.
“Bella,” I said and faced her with a worried look. “Pixie...I can’t find her.”
“Pixie?” she reacted, surprised. “Did something happen?”
“Well...” I muttered and averted my gaze. “I...raised my voice out of anger and...she ran away.”
“That’s...” Bella whispered and after a couple of seconds, she gave me a gentle smile.
“Then, you need to apologize.”
“Yeah,” I nodded and looked down.
“But action speaks louder than words,” she followed with a wink. “Why don’t you grant her a request? I’m sure she’ll be happy with that and forgive you.”
“I see...” I said and believed her suggestion with a determined expression. “I’ll look behind the stairs. I haven’t checked here yet.”
“Good luck,” Bella responded with a smile and I ran away.
★Pixie’s Point-of-View★
After a couple of minutes, I finally firmed my resolve to apologize. With that decision, I flew up, only to saw Prince running towards me. He stopped before me and our eyes met.
I need to apologize now!
“Sorry!” both of us apologized in unison. Because of that, both of us became surprised.
"You don't need to say sorry. It's me who opened your drawer without permission. So I'm the one who should apologize," I said in a flustered tone as I waved my hands.
“Of course I need to. I raised my voice to you even though you’re only curious,” he answered, serious.
“Prince...” I whispered, not knowing how to react.
Then, he looked at me with a sad face and muttered, "I...she...that girl...is someone I met in middle school."
I became surprised after hearing that.
But if he's hiding a picture of that girl...doesn't that mean...
"I should've thrown it away after all," he whispered and averted his gaze. Then, he scratched his head and continued, "Sorry...but I don't want to talk about her right now."

The topic must be sensitive to him.
I gave him a gentle smile and responded, "It's okay."
Hearing my reply, he looked at me with sad eyes and said, "I'll talk about her next time. I promise."
“Then, I’ll be waiting.”
After that, he made a serious face and called, “Pixie.”
“What is it?” I asked, surprised a little because of his sudden shift in expression.
“Can you become a human for one day?”
♛ Prince's Point-of-View ♛
When the weekend came, Pixie and I went out of the house. Pixie used her advanced magic, turning her into a human for the whole afternoon. We arrived at the shopping district at exactly 3 pm.
“Prince, hurry up!” Pixie said happily and skipped ahead like a little kid. She was wearing a green sleeveless one-piece dress, the skirt's hem passing her knees a bit. It was partnered with a summer hat and white sandals. As for me, I was wearing a red shirt with a black tiger design together with black jeans and rubber shoes.
“Jeez,” I whispered with a smile and followed her lead in a walk.
As an apology, I decided to ask if she can turn into a human for a day so I could treat her any food that she wants. After all, I was certain that she would enjoy eating larger portions of the food she loves.
“So...you decided what you want?” I asked with a serious face.
She went beside me and walked at a similar pace as me. Then, with a smile, she responded, “Cake.”
“Then, let’s go to a cake shop.”
As a reply, she nodded.
With that decided, we went to a famous cakeshop in the district. When I opened the wooden door of the shop, the bell above clanged and the sweet aroma of cakes welcomed us.
“Welcome to Red Raboon,” the staff behind the counter greeted with a smile. She was wearing a pink uniform, almost looking like a maid uniform together with a red apron. We went to the window display and saw different kinds of cakes.
“Amazing! This is my first time seeing different kinds of cakes lined up like this!” Pixie exclaimed with an innocent smile. Her eyes shone brightly, looking back and forth at the different cakes before her. “Prince! Look, look! Every cake looks delicious!”
“Right, right,” I agreed with a smile.
“Your girlfriend is quite cute,” the staff whispered to me with a giggle.
I became surprised and took some steps away. Then, I averted my gaze and with blushed cheeks, I replied, “She’s not my girlfriend.”
“I see. So you’re still in ‘that’ stage,” the staff followed and smiled at me.
What’s up with this staff? Is she like that to all couples who entered this place?
To escape, I went next to Pixie and asked, “What would you like to eat among those?”
“This one, this one, this one, this one, this one, this one, this one, this one, this one, and this one!”
Hey, hey, hey! She pointed out ten different cakes in an instant! Can she even eat all that here?
Then, she became shocked and realized her action. After that, she looked at me with teary eyes and said, “Buying all these would be expensive, right?”
And now she’s looking at me like that! Jeez!
“Don’t worry,” I answered with a forced smile and a thumb up. “A man never takes back his words.”
Her eyes shone because of that and followed, “Thank you very much, Prince!”
Goodbye, my allowance. It’s nice meeting you.
After paying in the counter, we went to the dining area and sat down on the seats. A waitress placed our orders on the table and left with a smile and a thank you.
“This is a dream come true!” Pixie commented with a big smile. She looked at each of her cake happily and grabbed a fork. There were 10 different slices of cakes separated in plates before her. Strawberry shortcake, blueberry cheesecake, red velvet cake, chiffon cake, sponge cake, apple cake, caramel cake, white chocolate cake, coconut cake, and banana cake. As for me, I have a single slice of chocolate cake before me.
“At least I made her happy, I guess,” I whispered to myself with a smile and grabbed my fork.
After giving our pleasantries, Pixie and I started eating. Every time she tasted a bite, she would close her eyes and chew the cake in elation.
“This is delicious alright,” I commented and swallowed my cake after chewing.
Even though it's on the sweeter side, the balance between the three types of chocolate in my cake was superb. Definitely coming back for it next time.
“Prince, that’s a triple chocolate cake, right?” Pixie asked with shining eyes.
“Yeah,” I answered with a slightly surprised look.
“Can I taste it too?” she asked, looking at me in excitement.
And she’s not even finished with all her cakes. This is one gluttonous fairy, alright.
I sliced the chocolate cake using my fork and scooped it. Then, Pixie looked at me in anticipation.
“Jeez. Here,” I said with a smile and fed it to her.
“Delicious~” she commented in happiness. “Want some too?”
“Then, I’ll take a bite of that blueberry cheesecake,” I said and Pixie immediately sliced the cake using her fork. Then, she scooped the piece and fed it to me with a smile.
“Delicious?”
“Yeah,” I answered as I chew.
The cheesecake's taste is exquisite. And the blueberry flavor on top compliments the cheesecake using its sweetness. Truly delicious.
“Isn’t it?” Pixie said and giggled. Then, we continued eating our cakes until nothing left.
──◈─▣─♕─▣─◈──
After exiting the cake shop, we explored the shopping district with no destination in mind. We strolled around, looking at different things. Clothes, foods, displays, street performers, mascots, everything. All those things made Pixie happy even though we were only walking around.
She really looks like a kid right now. Kid?
“Pixie,” I called after stopping in front of a toy shop. Because she was walking ahead of me, she immediately went back and stopped before me with a smile.
“What is it?”
“Let’s go here,” I suggested with a serious face.
“Sure!”
With that decided, we entered the store and went to the doll area. There, lots of boxed dolls were lined up on the shelves. But those were not the ones I was looking for. I looked around the area with Pixie following me with a puzzled look.
“What are you looking for?”
“It’s here,” I reacted with a smile after arriving at the ‘accessories’ shelf. There, clothes of dolls were lined up together with shoes, bags, and other things not set with a doll.
“Why are you looking for toys?” Pixie asked and stared at the small line of clothes before her. “But these are quite cute.”
“Which do you like between the two?” I asked and showed her two kinds of shoes, each on my hand. On my left was a high heeled shoe designed with silver glitters. On my right was a golden shoe with an intricate design embedded in it.
She looked at the two and after a couple of seconds, she pointed at the silver shoes.
“I like this one. But why?”
I placed the golden shoes back and responded, “It’s a gift from me. This fits you, right?”
Hearing that, she became surprised and asked, “It does but why?”
As an answer, I gave her a gentle smile and replied, “It’s my thanks for all your help in my mission. So please take it.”
“I can’t do that,” she followed with an anxious look. “You already treated me earlier and as for the mission, I was only doing my role.”
“Despite that, I’m still grateful to you. Without you, I’m sure I would’ve failed to save Arian and Cindy. So will you accept it?” I continued and looked straight into her eyes.
She got silent for a couple of seconds. Then, she gave me a gentle smile.
“Thank you, Prince,” she muttered and took the shoes from my hand. “I’m going to treasure this.”
After that, we bought the toy shoes and left the store with a smile.
──◈─▣─♕─▣─◈──
Before it became dark, we decided to head home. Pixie and I were walking in the residential area with her beside me. Then, she ran forward and faced me with a smile. Both of us stopped walking.
"Thank you for today, Prince. I had fun," Pixie muttered and hid her lower face behind her small paper bag.
"I'm glad then," I responded with a gentle smile.
Then, she faced her back to me and became silent. A couple of seconds after, she asked me a question.
"Can we...do this again...next time?" Pixie asked in a hesitant look.
Hearing that, I became a little surprised. Then, I smiled and answered, "Of course. Let's go to a different place next time."
After my reply, she faced me and gave me a bright smile as she held the paper bag behind her.
Is this the feeling of having a little sister? If it is, it's something nice to have alright.

Sara's (not really) Fabulous System Armageddon, Book I: The World Ended at Rush Hour
Planet Earth, Monday, October 7th, 2019. 18:30 * * On a fateful day, during rush hour in eastern North America, Heavens and Hell crumbled and fell from their higher dimension on Earth. It came from "above" but not the same above we regard in our tridimensional Euclidean reasoning. No, it came from "above" as in from a higher dimension. Bits and pieces of those places fell on Earth from all directions, this time in tridimensional Euclidean space. Satellites, the ISS, and space debris all were wiped clean from orbit. Even those that didn't crash with the falling debris were knocked off orbit by the shockwaves. On the ground, power distribution lines were disrupted and most power facilities were left abandoned by their dead staff. Most of these had emergency shutdown routines that engaged in a few days. Some others had a survivor among their staff that followed protocol and activated their SCRAM switches, stopping the power plant. Long-distance communication disappeared the internet along with it. The world was plunged into technological darkness. Nine hundred and ninety-nine out of every thousand human beings perished immediately in the pulse of magical energy from the torn spatial boundary. Spirits were rent asunder and vanished, their fate neither salvation nor damnation, only oblivion. The criteria used for this culling was latent magic potential. It didn't discriminate against education, gender, age, or ethnic group. But of the around seven million survivors, most would meet their doom moments later. Those on moving vehicles, like the ones driving on highways suddenly had to contend with high-speed uncontrolled cars and trucks driven by corpses. Trapped in their vehicles and helpless, they became part of the long snake of crushed metal. Very few survived. Those in the air or out in the sea were alone and probably unable to control their rides. Airplanes crashed, and ships kept their course or drifted away, depending on their autopilot. Several ended their own lives in utter despair after seeing their loved ones die in front of them. Another large group would die at the hands of other survivors. Violence and aggression became the norm. Only a few sparse pockets of not-so-sane survivors managed to band together and cooperate for the sake of mutual survival. The sole survivor in a five-over-one apartment building in Georgia, a girl became the keystone to humanity's survival. Sara's fabulous System Apocalypse had just started. She has only one remark. It was anything but fabulous. * * Updates every Wednesday and Sunday.
