《The Floating Dungeon》Chapter 42

POV Duna Valsson
In all of her experience of being an adventurer, she never did get used to the work and paperwork that came with running an adventure guild outpost. Especially when there was a new dungeon involved.
Even so, she loved everything about it, though she did not get to go dungeon diving and exploring anymore. But, now was not time to think about the past, but the present. And the amount of work that she has to do.
Just as Duna was eyeing the incoming paperwork, a knock at her office door captured her attention.
"Come in," called out Duna.
One of the desk receptionists opened the door and poked his head in.
"Guild master, one of the teams that have come out of the dungeon have brought remains of one of the monsters found there, and pieces and snippings of plants that they have found."
While this was one of the quests put up on the guild board, nobody has brought back one of the monsters to the guild.
"Send the group to the meeting room and get one of the scribes and the identification employees to look over what they brought. Depending on what they had brought, pay them along with the amount that was on the quest slip. Bring me back the report, then add it to the dungeon information room."
POV Matteo Egnell
Matteo was quite happy with how his group did in the dungeon and what they harvested and collected from it. Usually, they were not dungeoneers and primarily focused on hunting/exploring/collecting quests that allowed them to travel around the islands and continents of the ponosonee ocean. But when the group heard about this new dungeon, they decided to try it.
The adventurers guild usually posts a lot of quests relating to dungeons. In the beginning stages of the first exploration, these quests tend to be related to collecting and bringing back monster/creature bodies to be identified by the guild and that was perfect for their group.

The information the guild gave out told his group that it was a water dungeon, which did not faze Matteo and his group as they had experience fighting and collecting underwater. They even had the respiration masks, which had recently had an uptake in prices.
When they did go through the dungeon, they experienced an underwater world. Matteo, was an earth elementalist with a sub-class in potion making, that allowed him to correctly harvest and collect ingredients that he could use in potions.
The dungeon-delving was going well for their group. They stayed near the edge of the first floor. However, they were still able to collect enough samples for themselves and satisfy the guild's quest requirement. All was going well until they encountered their first monster.
The monster looked like a penguin, and it did not hesitate to attack. It had swung its wing out, and its feathers shot out towards them. Ayden, the water mage of the group, quickly flung up a water shield blocking the feathers. Before the penguin monster could attack again, Riley rushed at the monster and cut the penguin in half with her two swords.
Once the penguin monster was dead, Matteo started harvesting whatever he thought was worthwhile. He harvested the eyes, beak, feathers, some of the internal organs, and the feet of the monster. With the harvested parts carefully put away into his bag, the group had decided to exit the dungeon and head over to the adventurer's guild.
The group quickly swam out of the dungeon, went back onto their boat, and had Ayden dry them off. When they were dry, they quickly rowed over to the floating town.
As soon as they got back to town, they headed into the adventurers guild and waited in line for one of the two receptionists desks to be open. Finally, after waiting for about 10 minutes, one of the receptionists received them.

After they walked up to the desk, Ayden talked to the male receptionist.
"We would like to turn in samples of the plants we found in the dungeon relating to the rank F collection quest."
As Ayden spoke, Matteo started to unload the samples he collected specifically for the guild.
The receptionist eyed the samples that he set on the desk.
"Did you collect anything else from the dungeon other than the plant samples?"
With a smile, Ayden gestured to Matteo to place the monster materials he had harvested.
"We harvested some parts from the one monster that we experienced."
"A monster? Hold on for a second. I'll be right back."
As soon as the receptionist heard that they had harvested some parts of the penguin monster, he rushed off somewhere into the back of the guild.
A couple of minutes later, the guild receptionist came back.
"Please pack up everything. It needs to be evaluated, and follow me to the conference room."
Matteo quickly put everything he placed on the desk back into his bag. The group followed the receptionist into one of the back rooms.
When they entered the room, two people were already there. One of the people was a guy seated with a pile of blank paper in front of him with a pen in hand. The other was a girl seated on a chair, waiting for them to enter.
The girl, looked up at them, when they entered. "Are you guys the one with the monster parts and plant snippings?"
Matteo nodded and said, "yes."
"Okay, bring everything you have out, and I'll see if I can identify them. Depending on what they are, you may get more than the F rank quest gives."
The girl started going through the plants before starting with the monster parts. Then, she started separating some of the clippings from the others with the plants. After she finished going through the plants, she explained that these would be worth more to the guild if sold to them.
"Now show me the monster parts."
When Matteo brought out the harvested monster parts, the girl started eyeing them. She went over everything much more carefully than the plants. When she was done, she looked back up to the group.
"All of the monster parts, except for some of the internal organs, can be used in potions, weaponry, and other stuff."
As she was talking, the man with the blank paper wrote down everything she was saying and the descriptions of the plants and monster parts.
"I estimate that everything that you have brought me is worth 22 silver and 30 coppers. The reason that it is high is that you harvested them properly and cleanly. You also get a bonus for being the first group to bring back monster parts, though a whole monster would be more appreciated."
With what the classifying guild's person was saying, at least that's what Matteo assumed she was, it seemed that they were the first group to bring back parts of a dungeon monster. The money they received was not bad for how much time they had spent in the dungeon. It just made them want to go back into the dungeon to see what else they could harvest and sell. And who knows how much merchants or traders will buy this stuff for.
