His jaw did a considerable amount of dropping at that point as he stuttered over the status points for a minute. Ok so odds of that happening again are by far slim to none and i even got like a hundred and twenty levels worth of stat points. This isn’t the old world anymore so odds are my body ain't gonna cut it anymore. Alright let's boost that all around just cause i can at this point then let’s go with what my buddies all called Stat dumping. And since my entire fighting power comes from my soul apparently lets increase how much i can do with it.
Confirming his choice he braced for a wave of pain like how how he had heard in books, but the exact opposite happened. Instead of pain a wave of pleasure like a hundred orgasm’s riped through all at once. He nearly folded in on himself as it melted him into a very thin puddle for about ten seconds.
It went as fast as it had came through and his only thought was Good God that was better than any drug i ever did when i was a kid. That's gonna get a lot of people addicted to battle fever once word gets out. He nearly jumped out of his skin when the girls both groaned almost simultaneously and started to wake up. He quickly summoned two more goblins and mentally commanded them to find out where the goblins from yesterday had dragged everyone.
He’d only caught a glimpse yesterday of two women being dragged away but thinking about how many bodies were missing from how many he dragged out of the plane there was over half of them missing. Where did they go? Why would goblins take humans prisoner? He was no genius on fantasy but he couldn’t see any practical reason other that a source of fresh meat, which meant there was a good chance they were alive. Turning back to what was left of last nights fire he quietly waited for them to awaken.
After a few minutes they sat up holding their heads and as they looked around they saw him sitting across from them. Seeing their confused expression he held up a hand to stop them from talking and simply said “Before you ask think notifications and read through all that first.” they looked at each other and shrugged then froze as their eyes started going back and forth. He had always found it way too disconcerting how women always seemed to hold incredibly long conversations with just a single look.
He kept his peace as they each went through most of what he did yesterday. When the confused faded and then was replaced by first wonder then concentration and finally pain as the system tampered with their bodies. Finally when they were done panting he spoke “Now that you're up to speed I can begin. What few survivors could be rescued from the crash were either killed or captured by goblins yesterday, and i’m going after them.
I have some prior experience with tracking and hunting so if you want we can begin the introductions, my name is Niko Bolas and i’m now a soul summoner. Before all this happened i was in the Navy and i’m fairly talented at close quarters combat when i need to be.” As he took a breath he glanced between the two and eventually the one on the left started talking. “My name Natalie Harrah and from what i understand i’m now a Plant mage. I used to be a gardener and part time nurse but my hobby was video games so I’m fairly understanding of all of this.”

With a quick nod he looked evenly at the other one. “Names Ashley Thomas and i’m now a Templar. Before i was a computer technician for the pay but i also attended martial arts classes in a dojo close by my apartment.” He nodded, all in all he could have been much worse off as far party members were concerned. “Ok, i’ve already sent my summoned goblins to see if they can find the ones that took the others. Let's start heading towards the airport in the meantime since that's where all the tracks seem to lead.”
And without another word they were off. The drag marks were highly obvious to anyone with experience so with a cautious paced he followed it back all the way to the international arrivals terminal. A few of the supports had collapsed and the opening was now a ramp to the ground. Stopping and listening carefully he couldn’t hear anything unusual so he beckoned for them to follow. Crouching till he was almost on all fours he quietly and quickly scaled to the entrance by the receptionists desk.
With a peak over the lip he saw three goblins sprawled over a few chairs that looked to be passed out, there were two on the right and one on the left. Looking back he held up three fingers and beckoned to them. Careful no to make any sound he motioned for each of them to take a goblin on the right then he got the one on the left. Might as well test out those new stats i suppose. With that in mind he quickly grabbed it’s throat so it couldn’t scream and clamped a hand over its face.
Quickly and continuously adding pressure until felt the strain seemed like the easiest and fastest way to test it. He was not prepared for the result. It’s head caved like it was made of styrofoam almost instantly. With a hiss as he heard the crunch he looked towards the others but saw with relief that they were already done as well. Quickly wiping off the blood on a discarded jacket he tried to come to terms with what he had just did.
Before this all started i considered myself pretty damn strong and i started out with 23 as my highest stat excluding my soul stats. In video games that would be like my initial stats for a pretty strong human and now my stats are like ten times that. So does that mean i’m now a minimum of ten times stronger than i was before? I was never good with math so let's just test it.
Looking around could see a bunch of discarded miscellaneous items so he grabbed what looked like a child's picture book and ripped it down the middle. It was roughly thirty to fifty pages but he would have definitely struggled before the change, yet now he almost couldn’t feel any resistance. With a stunned expression he grabbed a nearby cell phone and crushed it in two again without almost any resistance.
With a quiet yet nervous laugh he grabbed the stone knife from the dead goblin and squeezed the grip. Just as the veins and tendons popped out on his hands he heard a definite snap and opened his hand. The handle had broken in two. Aaaand now i’ve officially become a superhuman. He turned back to the other two who were gapping at him like he’d grown a second head at random. From the killing to now had only taken about three minutes so he quickly shrugged and asked “You guys wanna split up to search or as a group?”

With a look at each other they both said in unison “Group.” With a cough he stuck along the walls and counters for cover then crept forward till he heard chattering in a definitely non human language that was occasionally punctuated by a gasp or sob. He peaked around the corner and almost puked right there, five or six goblins surrounded a single woman on the floor and her clothes were in tatters. At each end was a goblins thrusting into her and she was covered in a grayish-white substance that was fairly evident as to what it was.
With cuts, bruises, lacerations, and more than one broken bone it was a wonder she was alive at all. He never considered himself a saint but everyone had their bottom line and this turned his stomach in more ways than one. He quickly summoned another ten goblins and mentally ordered them to overwhelm and pin down the five in the middle of the hallway with as little noise as possible. They seemed to understand his rage as they leaped out and quietly ran then swarmed the other group.
They were all focussing almost exclusively on the woman so only a few confused yelps were heard and his goblins never hurt or even touched the women who lay as if she was dead on the floor where she fell. Quickly motioning the girls he sprinted to the woman and checked her pulse. It was faint but luckily she was still alive, “Ashley did you get a healing skill in your starting skills?” He saw she was frozen and snapped “Ashley she will die soon unless you answer me.” “Y-yes but it’s weak and i can only cast it twice with my mana.” “Good cast it on her twice then kill the goblins over there. That should be just enough to level you up once. Dump your points into increasing your mana pool then do it again.”
With a somewhat dazed nod she did as she was told and after a total of six healing spells the wounds had mostly closed except the worst one’s. Luckily they were all superficial and not that deep or she would have bled out long ago. He let the girls clean her off as he scouted around them and found the trail again from some blood stains leading into what looked like a women's bathroom.
When he opened the door he had to blink repeatedly and rub his eyes. It went straight from an airport to a dank cave that reeked of urine and feces, and the trail led straight into it. He could hear the sounds of what seemed like hundreds of screams all overlapping but it was very faint. With a his he suddenly realized what had been staring him in the face all along. Where the fuck was everybody, no one unconscious, wounded, or dead, that's what scared him the most. The average person wouldn’t be able to kill these little green things if they were taken by surprise and there had to have been thousands of people in this airport when the change happened.
Yet there wasn’t a single body or even as much blood as he would have thought. What the fuck was going on. His bad feeling was deepening at a remarkable pace. He quickly ran back to the girls and told them what he’d found. They decided to wait for a minute then wake up the other woman and see if she knew anything. He tried to scavenge some weapons while they waited for her to wake up. He ended up raiding the supply closet and breaking the handles off for makeshift spears, all the while cursing himself for leaving that metal pipe behind at the crash site.
Finally duck taping three of them together he made himself a club and about a dozen spare spears. He debated more than once about using his soul hammer but the more he did the more he realized that what they needed the most wasn’t one super strong person but they needed numbers most of all and his summons could play that role. He had only felt a slight twinge of something leaving him when he summoned the ten at once so he resolved to summon as many as possible when the time came.
He walked around the corner just in time to hear an ear piercing scream that was quickly smothered. He broke into a sprint and tried to keep an eye on his surroundings but couldn’t find anything wrong other than the obvious. Slowing as he reached the girls he could see them calmly talking to the women who he assumed was the one that screamed. “Yes, we saved you and that group is dead. Plus we’ve found their base and are about to go look for the others. Can you tell us what you remember? Anything from when the technology shut off and the screens appeared.”
“As soon as the lights went off everyone started shouting and it only got worse as we learned that ALL technology was shut off. It was pandemonium when the screens popped up. Everyone started panicking but after a few minutes then there was a series of flashes then Giant green monsters appeared out of the lights. They had a pinkish face and looked totally muscled. They looked confused at first they started grabbing people and taking them into the women's bathroom. Then there was more light and what looked like miniature versions were suddenly everywhere.
Some started running and tried to get away but there was even more outside. It was like a swarm of them. Everyone eventually got dragged into there, except me. I hid in a cabinet in one the food court and came out when i didn’t hear anything else but I ran into those little green monsters within minutes, and you know the rest.”
She was shuddering and shaking but her words were mostly calm and he had to praise in his heart for taking all this so well. “You did well. Have you chosen you class and such?”
The other two gave him cold looks but he ignored them “Yes, I did while I was hiding. I’m supposed to be a necromancer but i don’t know what that fully entails. All it said was someone who can use bodies to fight for them, my skill is called lesser reanimation and minor miasmic fog” He nearly did a happy dance since that would probably save their lives in the up and coming fight. “All right, let’s go and see just what’s in store fore us. Maybe we can find out why everyone was dragged into the dungeon in the first place.”

A Fractal Divide
Lesivar is a city in ascendancy. With recent innovations in magical crafting, the common people are experiencing a boom in comfort and wealth. The nobility, long used to being the stewards of knowledge and power, struggle to adapt to the new world in which they find themselves. A precarious balance has been maintained throughout, but forces stir beneath the surface threatening to send the city spiraling into chaos. This is my first attempt at writing anything longer than a short story, and I welcome any feedback or corrections. I'm posting this as I write, with each chapter going live upon completion. My current pace is about a chapter a day, which I expect to take my through the end of November. From there, I'm shooting for a chapter every two-three days until the book is completed, along with an editing pass of what is already up. I'm planning on three POV characters with unique insight into the story as it unfolds. Each chapter will contain only one POV. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]

Ghostified City
‘Ghostified City’ is a post-dystopian sci-fi tale, set in a fading world that might be a future version of ours, running out on autopilot into oblivion. Adaman Yimmand is a simple robofactory operator in The City who's working with robots and machines every day. He doesn’t even realise that he might not have met another actual human being in years. Everything begins when he breaks his routine for once and enters a bar where he meets Evelith. This pesky other person does not let him go after he has had his -rather terrible- beer, because according to her actual humans are much rarer than he’s aware of. And from then on ‘the genie is out of the bottle and won’t get back in’, to use her words: Adaman meets more people, and gradually he has no choice but to accept that the reality of The City is not what he always thought it was, and to face the darkness of a fading humanity on the brink of self-inflicted extinction. Is there any hope left for him, and for his species? I have selected 'sexual content' and 'traumatising content' to be on the safe side, because there is a stripclub-like venue in the background of the story, and an almost-extinct humanity that has institutionalised suicide which might be disturbing to some. Apart from that it's not really a heavy 'adult' story.('Ghostified City' is my first long story in English as opposed to my native language Dutch, and an earlier version was published on my fiction blog 'Oranderra' until I stopped updating. This is a slightly altered version of the first series.)
