《The Last Watcher》Transportation and Decimation

The clang of steel against steel echoed throughout the chamber, ethereal bells ringing unseen as another Watcher rose, supporting himself with the massive blade common among the Undead Legion. His eyes flickering red as he continued to fight the Abyss that threatened to consume him. Looking towards the sounds of combat, his eyes narrowed as an armoured knight swung at another Watcher, catching him in the stomach but thankfully drawing minimal blood thanks to the light yet sturdy armour that they wore. In response the Watcher swung his massive sword with speed that should not have been realistically possible, the knight blocking the blow with a grunt as he was pushed back.
Drawing his curved dagger, the attention of the two warriors moving towards him at the sound of another weapon unsheathing, he brought up his great sword resting it on his right shoulder as he crouched to prepare to jump forward in attack. What almost sounded like fabric tearing sounded behind him. Glancing over his shoulder his eyes widened as they continued to flicker a crimson red. His head felt like it was about to burst as an invisible force grabbed him from behind, pulling him backwards into a bright white light, the pain increasing hundred fold as he made contact with the light.
[Rift Event] complete, [World System] loading...
He stared ahead, eyes continuing to flicker between it's normal colour dark grey colour and a glowing crimson red. His head ached as his vision slowly returned to him, a lush forest bed greeting his eyes. Pushing himself up to his knees he stared ahead, taking in the beautiful lush greenery of the forest surrounding him. He had absolutely no idea how to react. It had been a countless amount of years since he had seen anything green or naturally growing that hadn't been taken by the [Abyss]. He frowned. [Abyss] was being thought differently. His frown deepened.
[Abyss].
He couldn't quite place it but something was different in the word itself. Looking to his right he spotted his great sword lying among the soft grass, his left hand subconsciously searching for the dagger at his side, only for another look, this time to his left, to reveal the dagger also sitting among the grass. Reaching over he grabbed his sword and dagger, sheathing the latter while resting the sword on his shoulder. Standing up he took one final look around before taking a single step forward.

Taking a step back in shock he brought his sword swinging down on instinct, gliding through the blue box in front of his face as though it didn't exist. Continuing to step back the blue box continued to simply stay where it had appeared, unmoving.
Host has been entered into database.
Evaluating stat potential...
The box appeared in front of him again, causing him to almost slice at it again only to stop as he read what was presented before him. Database? Stat potential? What did all that mean?

Task successful.
His brain felt like it was about to throw up from the strangeness of the situation and the continuous stream of strange information. He didn't have time to recover however as another blue box appeared, much bigger then the others.

He could only stare in shock and confusion at the blue box that had reappeared in front of him. His dark grey eyes glazed over as his mind shut down to allow himself to regroup his thoughts. So, he had apparently been transported into another world via a [Rift Event]. And for some reason this world had a strange phenomenon known as the [World System] which seemed to give various benefits and downsides according to certain factors and skills. That is a totally normal thing to process. Yeah.
Come on, why wouldn't this world be dictated by a mysterious system which sounded like it was entirely based on numbers.
Breathing deeply he did a one-eighty. And began to walk.
He had been walking for who knows how long, the forest seemingly going on forever. This was both bad and good for him. Bad in the sense that he was very lost, and the extra time he had been given to think about this whole [World System] thing which had not been the best for the current state of his mind. Good in the fact that he now had more time to simply take in the forest around him. Everything was so green and full of life. Something that Farron had been lacking for a very long time. He sighed wistfully as he shifted his great sword to a more comfortable position on his shoulders.
This was starting to get boring.
Thankfully, a faint sound reached his ears. The sound of combat.
Guard captain Rolth grunted as he deflected a heavy blow from an axe, the sheer force of it causing him to take a couple steps back. He looked around him, eyes widening as he watched two more guards get surrounded and cut down, their screams quickly silenced by the mercenary warriors surrounding them. Panting in exhaustion he dived low, slicing through the leather and opening the mans stomach to allow it's contents to spill on the ground. Spinning he let out a yell of pain as an arrow imbedded itself in his shoulder, slitting in between the plate chest piece he wore. Falling to the ground he could only watch in horror as one of the mercenaries moved towards the red ornate carriage, an evil grin on his face as he opened the door. A scream was sounded from the young woman inside said carriage, the evil man's grin only widening as he struggled to grab the girl.
He looked on in horror as two mercenaries approached to finish him off. A rustling, followed by hurried footsteps was the only warning they got before their bodies were cleaved in two. A strangely armoured man cut both of them in half with one swing, holding a massive sword in one hand as he finished the swing by holding it out to his right, and a curved dagger in the other. Already being in a low stance, the man stuck the dagger into the ground, Rolth watching in amazement as he seamlessly spun around, changing directions towards the three mercenaries that had begun moving to loot the dead guards.
Only one of them noticed the sudden death of the other two and attempted to shout a warning. Too late though, as the warrior moved with insane speed towards them, cleaving two of them in half while the other fumbled for his sword. Halting his momentum using the dagger again, he propelled himself forward, swinging downwards. The sword smashed into the ground. Two halves of the mercenary dropping onto either side of it. The screams of the girl suddenly picked back up, drawing the warriors attention towards it.
Lady Sarena Balthana screamed as she desperately kicked at the man currently attempting to grab her with mixed results. He had an evil grin, no doubt enjoying her screams as his grabs ended up ripping the bottom end of her dress. He laughed.
"Calm down you pretty little thing, I'm just being hired to kidnap you." He said, stopping his grabs only for a moment as he looked her over, "Of course, that doesn't mean I can't have my fun with you."
A sword pierced the centre of his chest, causing him to blink as he looked down at the blade in shock. He gurgled something, the words turning unintelligible as he collapsed onto the seat in front of her, staying there for only a moment before sliding down it and out the open door, a trail of blood in his wake. Shaking fearfully she slowly looked upwards. A man stood there, a tattered purple leather cloak hanging down his body, the tears not being any different from the ones currently marking his dark leather top and trousers, chainmail visible beneath the top. A mask covered the entire lower portion of his face, his dark grey eyes looking at the body, now lying on the dirt road motionless, from underneath a tall pointed helmet. He shifted the bloodied great sword on his shoulder as he sheathed the hooked dagger. He turned towards her.
She passed out immediately.

Beyond the Bridge
There are many worlds, many multiverses, and you can move between them via the Federation's Bridge network - magical gateways to other worlds. The world dubbed "C'thon" by its inhabitants - or Gamma-Theta-Nu-649, if you ask the Federation's bureaucracy - was deserted when the Federation found it. The "civilized" races had all died out centuries prior, and the wilderness had grown downright feral in their absence. Now, the lonely Federation outpost of Bridgetown is under constant threat from the hungry wildlife, malicious fey, territorial goblins, and wandering undead that surround it. The town's distance from the Federation's centers of power means that it gets precious few of the resources that it needs to stay safe and afloat. Enter the Guild of Adventurers, a plucky and disparate crew who do the Federation's dirty work in exchange for coin. One team, the first of many, crosses the Bridge to C'thon looking for fame, fortune, and (if they're lucky) the answer to a newly-discovered Prophecy. They'll get much more than they bargained for, although first they need to avoid being eaten by the local wildlife. Updates weekly on Wednesday. Chapters will be as long as they need to be for them to work, which means they can vary. If anything drops below 2500 words, I'll post an extra chapter if I have one ready. [PS: This is not a litRPG, but I do borrow heavily from TTRPGs for inspiration, and the general setting and storyline is from a TTRPG campaign I'm running.] [PPS: This is my first attempt at writing long-form fiction. I'm not trying to make a great piece of literature or have a multi-novel overarching plot, but hopefully it'll still be a fun story - let me know what you think in the comments.] [PPPS: Cover image is from a free-download wallpaper by Tyler Edlin; I do not own it, and will take it down immediately if requested.]
