《The Last Watcher》Orphans and Confrontations
Advertisement
The Abyss Watcher followed the two children out of the alleys, his eyes swiveling as he observed the various stalls. After his very uneventful fight with that knifemaster, he had escorted the kids out of the alley, dragging the thug in tow. After a quick drop off at the guards barracks, followed by several of the guards passing out as they used [Analyse], they had made their way back into the alleys, being the quickest way to what the children said was their home. Now that he knew it was completely free, he knew it couldn't be the cost that had caused the blackouts. But them using [Analyse] was the only consistency he had found with these strange events.
After making their way back through the alleys, unfortunately with no sign of the other thug, they now came back onto the street that the kids had said they had come from originally. For some reason they had lingered in the entrance to the street, hugging each other in what seemed to be fear. Was he that scary to children? Not much he could do about it if that was the case. Thankfully, they had both gotten their bearings together and now walked side by side with him, ignoring the strange looks the group kept getting by the citizens around them.
His gaze lingered on the silver haired girl, eyes focusing on the green orb that seemed to be centred inside her torso, yet he could still see both it and her torso at the same time. He didn't know why, but he knew what it meant. She was like him, taken from her own world and thrust into this one. He also recognised that she was slightly different than him, yet he couldn't quite place his finger on what it was.
A thought he would have to finish another day though as they turned off the main street and down a slightly less clean, but not decrepit, street. Unlike the main street that was full of life and vibrancy, this one seemed...subdued. The people that even walked the streets simply ignored the group after a few glances, a sharp contrast to the previous people they had passed by. After more walking, the kids both turned to face a house that was bigger than all the others, a porch with railings separating it from the uniform houses siding it. A large wooden sign hung above the building, large black lettering on it.
'Duskrock Orphanage'
The two newly named orphans stood silently in front of it, staring at the door. Slightly confused he decided to make the first move, worrying about what they were afraid of in their own home, and walked up to the door. The steps leading up the porch creaked under his weight, shocking the children out of their stupor. Quickly rushing to catch up as he hurriedly knocked on the door.

"Coming!" A female voice could be heard inside, followed by hurried footsteps. After a couple of seconds the door opened, revealing a smiling woman, whose smile immediately dropped upon seeing the Abyss Watcher, particularly the large sword that rested on his shoulder.
The Abyss Watcher stared down at the woman, deep into her brown eyes. She gulped as she put on the smile once again, albeit a more nervous one. "How may I help you sir?" She asked, eyes widening as she fully took in his tall appearance. Shrugging as he expected this sort of reaction, considering that was how most people were when they spoke with him, he stepped to the side revealing the two children, who sprinted forth, wrapping themselves around the woman's legs and melting into her large dress. The boy was crying, the now very confused woman patting his head.
The girl just looked relieved, as if she had been under an unseen amount of pressure until she had touched this woman. "Olver? Argent? What's wrong?" The woman asked the two, Olver sobbing as he looked up at her with teary eyes.
"W-We were nearly kidnapped Kayla!" He said, Kayla's vision darkening a surprising amount, as she knelt down to scoop the two into a hug.
"Are you all right? I knew I should have sent Kaiden to look for you." She said, Argent freezing up while Olver let a very surprising squawk of fear.
"Kaiden's here? Why?" The scared Argent said, looking up at the woman as if she was the only thing that could save her.
Blinking in shock Kayla replied, "Well, when you three went out Kaiden told me you were going to visit the market. He visits often so I didn't mind him chaperoning you guys. He came back a while later and said that you two had decided to stay just a little longer and told him to go on ahead."
Olver and Argent both had a look of shock on their faces. "He was lying." Argent whispered, yet all could hear it in the silence that followed Kayla's explanation. Kayla's face darkened as she looked to both, not even paying the Abyss Watcher any mind who had taken a step back to lean against the railing of the porch.
"Tell me what happened."
And so the two went on a large tangent, explaining all the events that had transpired from the moment they left the orphanage, alternating between themselves as they told it. Kayla nodded along before freezing up as Argent told of how she saw Kaiden speaking with a man in an alley. The Abyss Watcher observed as Kayla's eyes filled with pure, unbridled rage with each word that was said after that.

She looked to the Abyss Watcher when they explained how he had defended them against the knifemaster, appreciation in her eyes as she spoke, "Thank you." She said before silencing the two kids with a raised hand.
Standing up,, she smoothed out her now dirty dress, "I think it is time we pay Kaiden a visit." She said, murder in her eyes.
Kaiden smiled as he opened the small box, greedy eyes lightening up as he saw the silver pendant with a blue gem sitting in it. Smiling in glee, he grabbed it, ignoring the small pile of papers it was sitting atop. He turned it over carefully, biting the silver that made up the jewelry. Finding it to have the same taste as metal he quickly placed on top of his bed, searching the small box for anymore valuables.
He had found it underneath Argent's bed, and helped himself considering that she wouldn't be seeing it anytime soon. Hearing approaching footsteps he quickly threw the covers of his bed over the box, turning to face the person he smiled seeing that it was Kayla. "Kayla! What's wrong? You seem...angry."
He paled in horror as Argent and Olver walked in behind her, their own anger tiny in comparison to the murderous look Kayla was giving him. He paled even further as a warrior with a massive sword followed a distance behind them, halting at the door to lean against it's frame, massive sword pointed down towards the wooden floor.
Standing up he immediately attempted to back away but Kayla burst forward in a dash of speed and punched him in the gut with insane power, sending him literally flying through the air and into the wall. His pouch of coins fell out of his pockets as he groaned in pain, a few ribs definitely being broken. Kayla got even angrier when she saw this and moved toward. Eyes widening Kaiden attempted to grab the pouch but a swift kick to the face sent him back into the wall.
Kayla grabbed the pouch and looked inside it. She looked back to Kaiden, disgust in her eyes, "You are a horrible creature Kaiden. Selling children? And ones you know at that." She chucked the pouch up in the air, catching it as she said, "I think I'm gonna hold onto this."
Kaiden's eyes widened as she uttered those words, "Wait, no-" He was silenced by another kick to the face, which was now bleeding profusely. Kayla looked to the tall man in the doorframe, expression turning apologetic.
"Sorry to bother you for this good sir, but ould you please get this trash out of my orphanage?" She asked, the man shrugging in response before walking towards Kaiden and grabbing the back of his collar. He forcefully dragged Kaiden out, who was too weak to do anything but struggle in vain.
The front door to the orphanage opened, and Kaiden felt the man's grip on him begin to loosen. Before a small voice interrupted him. "If I may ask, can you please throw him as hard as you can?" Kaiden watched in horror as Argent stared at him coldly.
Looking up at the man he opened his mouth to protest. Too late though, as the man shrugged again. He was lifted into the air in the first second, sent flying at unimaginable speeds during the next, and overwhelmed by the feeling of pain arcing through his head in the third.
In the fourth and final second his world went black.
Argent hugged the tear stone pendant closely as she lay down, staring blankly at the ceiling above her. Her mouth curled into a smile as she remembered Kaiden colliding with the stone wall of the house across the street. She still hated pain. Pain inflicted against her. Against others though...
She giggled gleefully to herself, imagining the pain that Kaiden must have gone through in his final moments. Yes. Her thoughts also drifted to the pain the two thugs must have felt. She silenced herself as she noticed the other children staring at her in confusion.
Making others, especially people you hated, feel pain was morally wrong. She knew that.
But she didn't care.
She loved it...
