《Zero Tamer》Chapter 2

Hundreds of years ago humanity fought tooth and nail for the right to survive against the monster hoard and we were losing. That was until a person of unknown origins discovered the method to unlock God’s will or the system and with it Spirit. Through extensive trial and error, we found that through Spirit we could use a spell to tame a wild monster as long as the person casting it had a stronger Spirit and with this discovery the first tamers came to be. During this time it was observed that only those of an age 16 could handle the system without dying. Now all of humanity with their powerful monsters and the magic they unlocked was finally able to push back the hoard. After this tremendous feat the first great cities were finally able to be established under the protection of most powerful tamers now known as the Seven Royal Families, the Seven Storms: The Firestorm, Lightningstorm, Lightstorm, Darkstorm, Holystorm, Earthstorm, and Waterstorm families. With their guiding hand humanity found the righteous path that God wanted us to follow, a pure path, where the strong rule. Might is Right. With this in mind, the voice of God, Emperor Garelt Lightningstorm wrote our Holy Scriptures, and thus founded the glorious Church of Niwrad. Under the rule of the God, the Church, and the strong we were able to live a pure and fulfilling life.
Through the years these truths were forgotten or just ignored. We accepted the weak and people of impure spirit, those with dual or more elements, into our hearts and country. We allowed them to flourish and have a voice, but this only angered God. And so he punished us with a plague of weakness and made some deaf to God’s words and will, the Zeros. But God didn’t altogether abandon us he sent us his most magnificent voice Alfred Holystorm our 63rd Emperor. He reinstituted the Holy Scriptures and executed all the impure as punishment and allowed the weak to return to their proper place of serving the strong. He even found a place for those poor… poor souls known as the zeros for it was not their fault that they were born deaf to God. So Emperor Alfred started the Zero laws that we use to this day. This way even with their weakness they can still be of use doing the work that is below even the weakest of humans. He also started the tradition that on the New Year the Emperor may be challenged by anyone for the right to rule. For only the strongest shall rule. This doctrine has led our Empire to the most prolonged period of prosperity, stability, and peace. MIGHT IS RIGHT!

With great cheers and chants of Might is Right from the crowd of listeners the sermon ends.
“Thank you, your Holiness for that wonderful sermon, but I think our hopefuls will want some general information on what to expect during and after the test,” Says a gentleman to the right of the podium.
“You’re quite right Chancellor, I’ll allow you the honor.” quietly states the Head Priest in a calm measured voice.
“Thank you for this honor, your Holiness,” Says the Chancellor with a small hint of sarcasm.
“Now future tamers since you are here you must be aware on your 16th birthday you have to go through the testing to unlock the system and see what your Spirit level is and what your element is. So after the testing, I’m sure your parents will take you to the nearest kennels and help you pick out your first monster to bond. That monster will depend heavily upon your spirit level and element. The monster you choose will have to be of your element or a neutral element. Though I don’t know why anyone would waste their time on a neutral element monster if they have a choice in the matter, they are the weakest with almost no magic. Secondly, you can only control a monster that matches or is lower than your spirit level. This same rule applies if you wish to control multiple monsters their combined level cannot exceed your own. Another thing all monsters come with their own, sometimes unique, abilities and in most cases magic. So choose wisely, you can also consult any one of the libraries they have information on most monsters on the first level that all tamers have access too. Now if you wish to raise your spirit level you will have to complete dungeons. The higher class of dungeon you complete the greater chance that when you touch the core that it will raise your spirit level.” states the Chancellor at a fast clip.

“Let us start the testing. His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Norix Firestorm has kindly granted you, peasants, the right to be tested first before his Heir, His Royal Highness, Prince Rinox Firestorm. But you must leave straight after your test. ” Says the Chancellor with a deep bow to the Emperor and a slightly shorter one to Rinox. “Now get in line before the testing orb, and after you get your spirit level, you are to tell my aid here who will add it to the registry of the country remember to update this whenever your spirit level raises so that your ranking within the empire is known. Begin.”
One by one the young men or women step up onto the platform and places one hand upon the orb. There’s a flash of light, and a gasp from them as a blue box pops into view in front of their eyes and the orb changes from clear to the color of their element. They would then tell the aide what their level was, then with their families leave the church excitedly or with quite disappointment.
“Ha, this is pathetic none of them are stronger than level 20 spirit what are they gonna tame a horned rabbit,” Rinox says Laughing loudly from his private level. A few of the testers shoot upward glares at him which just makes him laugh louder, of course, he is going to be stronger than them so what could they hope to do.
“Now son we need these people. I mean who do you expect to farm and cook for us. Not me unless you want it burnt black with dragon’s fire. They have their purpose we have ours,” informs his father.
“So what’s ours?” asks Rinox.
“They provide for us, and we protect them.” said his mother. “Now it’s almost your turn are you ready to head down?”
The three of them and a small retinue of guards get up and make there way down to the platform. Once everyone leaves except for the Head Priest, the Chancellor, and his parents Rinox slowly and nervously with some forced swagger approaches the orb. After glancing over at his parents with a nervous smile, he places his hand onto the clear orb.
