《Greenskin》Chapter 16 - The Djálik

"Mr Gale... perhaps it would be wise you choose a slightly easier quest... an Urgent Quest is far more difficult than normal quests of it's ranking..." A wide-eyed receptionist spoke softly as she looked up from her counter, glancing between two sheets of paper on her desk then glancing up to the burly, chiselled frame of a dark-skinned hulk of a man.
His voice like the roll of thunder, he booms out his reply "There is no task too challenging, as long as the coin is enough." The gargantuan man slipped his coarse palm over a tag that hang loosely around his neck, it bore his name and rank within the adventuring guilds.
Kor'Ak Gale - Iron
The tag was simple, but would nevertheless identify him if something... bad were to happen. As much as he despised boring paperwork, he managed to work through some administrative work, signing his name over and over again without so much as reading the contracts and forms that were slipped infront of him. He'd been through all this before, and had spent an hour going through these contracts the very first time he was given them.
Some of the documents to were ensure that he get paid, whilst the majority tended to focus around the guild or quest giver not being responsible for any injuries, collateral damage or death caused by adventurers when completing a quest, of course this also included the death of the adventurer, where it would hold the deceased completely at fault.
"By Krist, do I really have to write all this every single time?" Kor'Ak grumbled in that deep voice of his; the receptionist was silent, eyes focusing not on him, but at his the table in front of her, still glancing through the papers that he signed; her eyes were rather downcast, far too dark and sunken for someone so young.

"Th-That should be all Mr Gale..." for the first time, the guild receptionist properly looked at the adventurer "Mr Gale... Take care, this quest is far more difficult than you seem to believe, at the very least make sure you wait for some more people to take the que-" Kor'Ak interrupted her, seemingly not wanting her admittedly sensible advice, built from years of second-hand experience, from both wondrous, and heart-shattering stories.
"Young lady, a man as I does not desire the aid of others..." The man looked at his rough hand, one of the few sections of naked skin that could be seen beyond his battered full-plate "Besides, many seem like they wish not to assist me in any matter, nevermind in combat"
The young girl glanced at his skin, before having her lax smile straighten into a pondering frown. "I understand that you're of Djálik descent... alot of people will give you odd glances, it is not that they dislike you, but your people are rare in Bruma, an unusual sight... At the very least, adventurers are a strange and rare bunch as well, there are people far more..." The receptionist seems to purr a little as she puts emphasis on a single word "exotic... than yourself, even in this country."
Kor'Ak merely nodded, not too pleased with being reminded of his homeland. The giant warrior turned away from her, saying a single thing before he left "My thanks for your words, If Krist is on my side, I will be seeing you again soon"
It was a short walk from the guild hall to the dingy little room he'd rented out above one of the few taverns that would serve him.

Any resemblance between anything in this novel and the plane of reality we live in is purely coincidental. Was that a bit over the top and a wee bit unnecessary? Maybe. 2) This story features an antihero with a slight hint of villainy. So, sooner or later, it’s going to get dark. Very dark. Hence all the tags.
