《Rakshasha's Heart - Prologue》Chapter 11 - Faster than Sound

"AHHHHHHH!"
"Die you basta.....kloorbh! kaakh!"
"Arghh! My eyes! My eyes!"
The miserable screams of the villagers rang throughout the plaza, displaying a gory, heart quenching scene all around, that could make one puke out all of their stomach contents. Mangled dead bodies, mutilated limbs, and bloody viscera filled up the vision of anyone unlucky enough to spectate this horrific event. Each piling body of the villagers, exponentially increased the bandits' murderous atmosphere as they continued their gruesome slaughter.
The men in the back who witnessed such a scene from the best(worst?) possible location had pale and haggard faces. They could feel the morale of the mob plummet down, slowly draining away from their bodies. The situation for them, was no different than a prisoner with a death sentence, waiting to step up to the executioner's platform.
The onslaught of the mad giant, who now squished his poor opponents with even more vigor, and the ferocity of the axe-wielding bandit, who contributed for the most number of kills moving around the plaza like a war god, was more than enough for the villagers to have second thoughts about this futile struggle. The other bandits, although piled up a few flesh wounds getting hit by lucky strikes now and then, did not slow down in the slightest rather increasing their gory performance like a warmed-up engine.
The biggest source of despair for the villagers was the shenanigans of the slant-eyed bandit who rarely killed any, always crippling, and blinding his opponents before moving on. Seeing their old-time friends getting trampled all over by their friends, as they helplessly tried to discern the surroundings sent waves of fear into the villagers' mind.
Some of the blinded men had not given up yet, swinging their weapons with battered and bruised bodies, only slicing the open air and stumbling about crashing into objects and people alike. A few had even injured their comrades, completely oblivious to it. The entire scene was so pitiful and sad, it made even the grown-up men sob like a baby.
"Ah! Ah! Why is this happening? Just why? What taboo did my village commit to deserve this disaster!?" exclaimed a figure from the back.

It was the old village chief. He had just arrived near the inn, only to witness the ghastly flying head of his old-time friend that landed somewhere inside the village, instigating frightful womanly screams from within.
"The adventurers! Where are the adventurers!?" his horrified face was laced with a tinge of confusion, frantically glancing at the people around.
"Those bastards!? They tucked their tails and ran away long ago!" someone shouted with an expression of scorn.
"No way! That's impossible! Did anyone check their rooms?" the chief questioned again with disbelief.
"With all this noise and clamor happening right beside their ears, do you think they are still sleeping soundly on their beds!?"
"No! I mean! they may have ventured into the forest to investigate the area! or, or to collect materials and resources! They are adventurers after all. Maybe they don't even have any idea of this raid!" the old man appeared senile, squeezing out excuses with difficulty.
His nonsensical words seemed to be directed at only consoling himself rather than an explanation. A young girl with distinct braids joined in the conversation at this moment, putting a nail into the coffin.
"I have already checked their rooms. All the luggage and bagging has disappeared...along with them." Beti's face had long since lost any colour as she explained with a bitter smile.
She had been watching the entire battle from beside the inn and had already puked a few times at the disgusting scene of human slaughter. Her father had long since fainted, with foam coming out of his mouth, and was currently tended to by her mother inside the building.
The old chief plopped down to the ground, his legs losing any strength in hopelessness. The villagers on the other hand felt their hearts being heavy as if a boulder was placed on it. They were long since aware of the absence of the adventurers and had inferred the possibility of them abandoning the village, but hearing the truth from someone's mouth was different. Any of the lingering hope they had, was smashed.
How strong would the bandits have to be for an adventurers' party to flee from them in the middle of the night? How could they even hope to stand up to such a fearsome lot as common rabble?

The villagers could only imagine the horrifying future that awaited them at the hands of these savages. It only added to their existing feelings of fear and despair, instilling the thoughts of abandoning the fight in many of them. A few others remained rooted to their positions, gritting their teeth while trembling, waiting for a miracle to overturn this catastrophe.
The morale of the mob had begun to flicker on its last breath, like a candle about to get extinguished.
The giant had been crazily swinging his sledgehammer, mowing down the pesky little villagers with renewed vigor. This time, he had been maintaining a closer grip on the shaft cutting out on some of his power, not wanting to take another surprise attack to his face. His mutilated tongue had already lost the ability to voice human speech forever.
With a small swing of the giant's hammer, a pitchfork was swatted away from the hands of a young man, seemingly one of the farmer's son. He had been pushed forward by the people behind while trying to retreat in fear of the mad slaughter. The poor guy fell onto his butt from the impact, his wrist bones being fractured as he winced in crippling pain, while the pitchfork flew away stabbing into the roof of a nearby hut.
The giant approached the terrified young man, lifting the hammer up high above his head, as he winded himself for another devastating swing. The scene felt like a replay of the flying head of the old soldier, as the surrounding villagers backed up in fear. Just as they were about to shut their eyes, not wanting to witness the horrifying scene again...
BOOOM!
An earth-shattering boom originating from far within the village that shook the entire plaza, startling the villagers and bandits alike. The feeling of the sound barrier getting destroyed was transmitted, as the shock wave emanated, vibrated the thatched huts present along the way, forming cracks all over. The entire village itself reverberated for an instant under the sheer power that was generated.
A pitch-black streak of light pierced through the air above the villagers, accurately targeting the giant's head from a considerable distance. It appeared soundless from afar, but the places through which it passed were drowned with a high pitched, ear-splitting whistle that followed just behind it.
screeeech!
The moment the giant heard the supersonic boom, all the hair on his body instantly stood on their ends, as if the hands of death itself had brushed past them. His monster-like intuition, cultivated through his many experiences screamed, as reddish mist rose from within his body in an instant, trying to defend against the sure kill shot. The thick hammer shaft also extended backward, blocking his face from the soundless pitch-black dot in the distance.
BANG!
But all of the preparations were for naught once the black streak of light drilled through the metal shaft, ignoring the reddish mist as if it were mere paper. The giant didn't even have enough time to change his expression to one of sheer horror before his head outright exploded in a disgusting bloody mist.
The streak of light continued onward, impacting the ground with an explosion before forming a massive crater. The mangled dead bodies of the villagers lying behind the giant got caught up in the shock waves generated, inciting a heavy shower of blood and entrails all around the plaza.
The people had not even regained their senses from being startled by the initial boom, and they could not even hear the obliteration of the giants head or the explosion that followed it since everything was submerged by the sharp, ear grating noise accompanying the black streak. That was how fast the strike had landed. Blood incessantly flowed out of the villagers' ears due to ruptured eardrums and many a few fainted right on the spot.
thud!
The bandit's body and the hammer crashed down onto the ground, jolting awake the stupefied crowd. Every one of them could only glance at the headless body of the giant lying right in the middle of the small plaza, with gazes of extreme confusion and disbelief.
