《Saiyan in a Cultivation World》Chapter 1 - Growing up

In a small room, a weirdly muscular young boy sat with his leg crossed and his eyes closed in meditation. He was wearing a sleeveless black robe which only went down to just below his knees.
The room he was in was filled with all sorts of incense and if you knew anything about incense, then you'd know all of these different kinds of incense were used for calming someone and keeping them mellow and the opposite of aggressive.
Slowly, the boy breathed in the incense and then slowly he let it back out again.
The boy was fairly tall for his age and with his muscles, he looked like someone in their early teenage years. His wild black hair lay across his shoulders and down onto his chest and back, reaching to his stomach on the front and his lower spine on the back.
Suddenly the boy got up in frustration and kicked the wooden bed next to him.
*Crash!*
The wooden bed splintered and broke apart under the youth's surprising strength. After he did this he stormed out of the room and into the courtyard. In the courtyard, the boy walked up to a few massive rocks before starting to punch them.
Each hit shook the rocks and caused booms to echo out through the yard. He kept hitting until his skin split and blood came out, then he switched to kicking the rocks and did the same to his shins and feet.
The boy could feel his unusual anger creeping up from within him, it was getting harder and harder to control it but he was distracted by a sweet voice behind him.
"Xiong'er? What are you doing?" The voice sounded confused and slightly worried. The boy turned around his amber eyes looking at the ground. This was the tailed-boy Fang Shen found and named Fang Xiong and over 10 years had passed since that day.
"Sister, I was...um..." Fang Xiong tried to speak but he truly didn't have a reason other than he got angry over his limited progress in Qi Cultivation.
Fang Xiong looked at his sister. Long black hair but completely straight unlike his, clear and gentle looking red eyes staring at him with her usual affectionate looks. She looked into his eyes before she was drawn to the blood dripping down his knuckles and onto the ground.
"Xiong'er!" she rushed to him before she reached into the space around her and a bottle of cream appeared in her hands. She quickly but delicately applied the cream to his knuckles before reaching down to his shins and applying it there. To finish off she covered his hands and legs in bandages.
"Brother, you can't always get angry and hurt yourself like this," Xiao Mei looked at her brother with a stern expression but her voice betrayed her by sounding so worried and caring. Fang Xiong looked offended for a minute before quickly correcting himself and his expression became more mellow before he replied.

"Sister...I can't help it...I don't make any progress in my cultivation no matter how hard I try. The only good thing about me is my natural strength...and I can't stand my weakness anymore...!" Fang Xiong was almost growling at this point, he seemed thoroughly offended by his own weakness.
Xiao Mei seemed to be used to his hatred of his own weakness and just walked up to him and hugged him.
"Little brother, do not worry about your cultivation; Father and I will always be here to protect you no matter your strength," her voice was loving and calm but it didn't stop the scowl that crawled over Fang Xiong's face.
"But I don't want to do that! I don't want to be the weak one! I don't know why, but I just can't bear the thought of being weak!" his sudden outburst seemed to shock Xiao Mei but her calm face stayed barely moved.
But what she wasn't expecting was for her brother to carry on, "You wouldn't understand, Xiao Mei, we're different in both our talent and what we are. So please leave me alone and annoy someone else," his voice was sharp and uncaring as he pushed past his shell-shocked sister.
Fang Xiong was heading for his father's study, he had to talk to him.
Meanwhile, a single tear fell from his sister's eyes. Her shocked face fell away replaced by a deep sadness and helplessness.
"I don't know how to help you, Xiong'er, and I know you hate being protected but...but I'm still going to do it anyway, even if you end up hating me..." she wiped the single tear away and walked off to her room, set on protecting her beloved brother.
Back with Fang Xiong, he was standing outside his father's study, he could hear some talking so he didn't barge in. He knocked twice and waited for the door to open.
It didn't take long for the talking to stop and for the door to open to reveal his father. His father was a tall man, about 190cm in height and with a slightly muscular build, he looked like a very imposing man. But the jovial smile on his handsome face took away from that feeling and made him feel like a nice person.
His long black hair was tied into a ponytail behind his head, making him look like some kind of scholar.
"Ah! My son, how are you today?" Fang Shen pulled his son into a bear hug of sorts and squeezed him tight to the young boy's embarrassment but by now he was used to his father's intimacy.
"I'm fine, father..." he tried to hide it but his annoyance from earlier appeared on his face and from the worried look on his father's face, he definitely saw it.

"What's wrong, my boy? And don't bother saying nothing, I'm your father and I understand when you're telling me the truth or not," while gentle and caring, his father's tone was quite stern and Fang Xiong knew he had no way out other than to tell the truth.
"I'm sick of my weakness...I make no progress in Cultivation no matter how hard I try and to see Sister fly ahead of me...it hurts for some reason..." unlike with his sister, Fang Xiong was completely honest with his father.
What he didn't know was that it was his Saiyan biology not wanting to accept that someone was stronger than him and this was slowly developing into a complex. Seeing his sister get stronger should be a happy occasion and he did feel happy for her but this complex and his natural instincts wouldn't allow him to express anything like happiness in someone else's strength.
Fang Shen looked lovingly at Fang Xiong and ruffled the boy's wild hair, "Well, just keep trying, Xiong'er, I believe in you," his father's everlasting confidence in him seemed to wash away his annoyance and anger, replacing it with gratitude and love.
The lack of annoyance and anger made him instantly feel guilty for what he said to his sister. She only wanted to help him but he could only repay her by being aggressive and annoyed with her.
His father seemed to see this regret but chose not to speak about it, it wasn't the first time he'd shown regret like this and he guessed it was the same as the other times; about something he had said to his sister. He trusted that they'd both sort it out soon.
From somewhere in the back of the room, a calm voice spoke out, "Ah, Brother-in-law, what's this about my nephew struggling with Qi Cultivation?" from behind his father, Fang Xiong saw a shorter man walk to stand in front of him.
While he was shorter, the man seemed much more threatening to Fang Xiong, something about the man's aura was terrifying to the young boy.
"Brother Long, Xiong'er doesn't seem to have much talent for Qi Cultivation but I believe with enough effort he can achieve the power he wants," Fang Shen calmly said this as he spoke to this 'Brother Long' person.
Fang Xiong wasn't exactly thrilled to be put under the light like this, especially when it was about how little talent he has. Brother Long looked at Fang Shen with a confused look before looking at Fang Xiong and taking in his appearance.
"Why haven't you brought in a teacher for Body Cultivation? Surely you can see the boy has the talent for it, right? Just look at the size of him! He's what? 9? 10? And he already looks as if he's 12 or 13!" Brother Long's voice got more and more excited as he spoke but Fang Shen's face got darker as time went on.
"Please refrain from talking about that method, Brother Long, it's much too dangerous!" Fang Shen's voice boomed, surprising himself and Fang Xiong.
Brother Long, however, seemed unperturbed as he continued to look at the boy in front of him before replying to Fang Shen's outburst, "Calm down, Brother-in-law, I know you treasure him after what happened to sister--" a slap resounded in the room as Fang Xiong's dad hit his brother-in-law.
"Don't you dare bring her into this!" his voice was cracking as he looked at Brother Long with red eyes. The person who was hit didn't really react and just took the punch, which confused Fang Xiong. His instincts felt that this man was much stronger than his father and he couldn't fathom why he'd let his father hit him.
"Okay, that's on me, brother-in-law, I shouldn't have brought her up. But you shouldn't hold him back because of your fear, should you? Do you understand what I'm getting at?" despite the blood running from his nose, Brother Long was still calm and collected.
Fang Shen seemed to calm down and started to feel a slight bit of guilt for his actions and he averted his eyes from both his son and Brother Long.
Meanwhile, Fang Xiong looked up at the two of them in confusement, obviously oblivious to whatever they were talking about as he was too young and didn't know any of the context. Instead, he only understood that his father was holding out on him.
"Father, what way is he talking about?!" Fang Xiong couldn't help but shout as he thought about all the years he'd been so weak and his father didn't tell him about another way.
"Xiong'er...I'm sorry I didn't tell you...but..." his father's voice was cracking and his eyes were teary and close to crying. Brother Long put a hand on his father's shoulder to console him before looking at Fang Xiong and speaking.
"The method he talks about is indeed dangerous like he said, but I can tell that won't deter you, nephew...The method he talks about is Body Cultivation or as some call it, Ki Cultivation," Brother Long's voice seemed to spark something in Fang Xiong's body; a want, no, a need for power.
