“Surface, Sky. Light, Darkness. Square, Circle. Life, Death.”
Mister Marco starts saying many words while drawing in succession while drawing symbols on the ground.
“Balance, Unbalance. Night, Day. Sun, Moon.”
As he keeps talking, the symbols on the ground start shining.
They shine brighter and brighter.
“With Sun comes the day, with Moon comes the night. When there’s a freedom, there’s a suppression!”
When Mister Marco chants the last sentence, the shining symbols take off and fly towards the big Golden Griffin.
They land on Griffin’s body and start shining.
In a moment, a large cube-like room? starts forming around the Griffin and people staying near it. That includes Prince Si, Prince Shiyu and Mister Shen.
“Screech!” The Griffin screeches somewhat confusedly.
“Fuu…” Mister Marco falls on his four and starts heavily breathing.
His whole body is drenched in sweat.
I take a napkin from my pocket and head towards Mister Marco.
“Awuu, awuu…” Yosh, yosh… Good boy. Good boy. I wipe his sweaty forehead.
“Ah… thank you… Sweety.” He says with a smile.
Muu…
Why are you guys doing something so dangerous anyway?
Look how tired you are…
“Suu… Fuu… The rest is on them…” Mister Marco says while gasping for breath.
“Awu?” I look towards Prince Si locked up in this shining cube room.
Even locked in prison he looks somewhat…
… Annoying?
The Griffin attacks the shining barrier, but it doesn’t leave even a scratch on it.
It tries few more times and then it gives up.
It turns towards the cultivators locked in the cube.
“Screeech!” It screeches and charges at one of the cultivators.
… It disappeared?
I look dumbfoundedly around the cube.
“Guhhaa!” One of the cultivators falls down from the sky.
“Guhhh…!” And another one.

“Aaah!” And another one…
Soon, only Prince Si and Mister Shen are left locked up in the cube.
… Where is Prince Shiyu?
“Claw of the Wind Dragon!” Someone shouts.
Ah… That’s Prince Shiyu’s voice.
As expected of Prince Shiyu!
A mere Martial Acolyte like me can’t see through his Stealth Techniques.
I look around with my eyes, looking for Prince Shiyu.
Clang!
A metallic sound resounds in the surroundings.
“Screech…!” The Griffin screeches in pain?
It actually bleeds!
Prince Shiyu was able to injure that big Griffin?!
“Haa… Haa… Don’t underestimate him because he’s a stupid brat…” Mister Marco tells me that after seeing my surprised expression.
“He is… a genius of the same caliber… haa… as his big brother… after all…” Mister Marco informs me.
I know that Prince Shiyu is a genius.
… You don’t need to tell me that.
His Stealth techniques are exceptional!
“Haaa!” This time, Mister Shen yells and swings his heavy looking spear at the Golden Griffin.
“Flying Dragon kick!” Prince Shiyu attacks together with him.
So… Why does Prince Shiyu shout names of his techniques every time he attacks?
Does it increase the strength of the attack?
Is this perhaps some sort of Imperial Secret Technique?!
Miss! You should totally try it too!

Delicate as Glass
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Nuri, an [Assistant Glassworker], only has a single Skill. It’s really not fair. He’s worked in the hot shop his entire life, following in his father’s footsteps after his parents passed away, but he’s stuck. Despite possessing above-average talent as an artisan, he still hasn’t shed his [Assistant] status, gained a second Skill, or even leveled enough to reach the first Threshold. Besides, he’s bored; most days he daydreams of adventure and becoming a hero, or pines for the renown that’s sure to be his if he evolves his Class into a [Master Glass Smith], but nothing ever changes—until suddenly, fate strikes, and nothing is ever the same again. These days, Nuri sees more magic, prestige, and adventure than he can handle as he gets swept up in realm-shaking conspiracies and desperate fights for his life. Maybe a boring life wasn’t so bad after all. Disclaimers: 1) Names were mostly chosen through random generators and aren’t necessarily final. If they seem derivative or boring, blame RNG. 2) Skills, Classes, levels, and the entire system is currently a work in progress; please be kind if it’s not very well fleshed out yet. 3) This is the first full-length novel I've set out to write without a single plot point ready. I had nothing in mind other than a recent visit to a hot shop. Molten glass is pretty awesome. 4) Related, I know much less about glass than I’d like. I did some research, but mistakes are bound to happen. If you have a correction, thanks! Please be polite about it. 5) The prose is my experimental attempt at first-person, present tense. I realize it may not be everyone’s preference, but I hope you’ll give it a try anyway!
