《How Do You QA Test a Tsundere Android!?》Test 5: They Call Back
Advertisement
The week ends without any calls about the interview.
In my humble experience, this isn’t anything unusual. These companies sure like taking their sweet time-
RING RING RING
I leap on my phone like a mad tiger.
“Hello!?”
"Hello, Nick?"
"Y-yes!"
I answer nervously to a woman with a serious, businesslike voice.
"I'm calling from Anomalia. You had a job interview last week, correct?"
"Y-yes."
My whole body trembles as I hear "Anomalia". These guys sure work fast!
... wait. D-don't tell me they called so quickly because I was rejected right away...!
"I'd like to inform you about the continuation of your interview."
"Huh...? Continuation?"
"Yes, there will be a test held on Wednesday this week. It will help us further estimate whether you are qualified for the job."
"I see..."
First I had a technical exam, then an interview... now what?
"May I ask what the test is about?"
"The test is confidential. You’ll get the details on the spot."
"Huh, I see..."
This is getting more and more peculiar; in the previous phases they properly informed me.
"Is there any material I need to go over before the test?"
"No, you aren't expected to prepare beforehand."
Even if she knows something, I won’t be getting it out of this tight-lipped woman.
Time, date and location.
By the time the phone call ends, these are the only details I’m provided about the mysterious test.
“YES!”
I clench a fist in victory.
Since I was found worthy of being called to this exam, it must mean that I have a real chance of being accepted.
“Nicky, who was it?”
Mother calls out from the room across the hallway; she must have overheard the phone call.

“They called from Anomalia. I’ll have some sort of exam this Wednesday, they said it’s another part of the interview.”
“That’s great.”
Mother quickly strides through the hallway.
“You see? I told you, you must apply to as many places as possible, instead of sitting on your lazy butt the whole day.”
“That’s, uh... yeah...”
It’s unpleasant to admit, but I only have this opportunity thanks to mother; she was the one who pushed me toward applying to Anomalia.
When I saw the job’s requirements - I immediately dismissed the advertisement. I simply didn’t have the five years of experience and the second academic degree they wanted.
“So do you, like, have a good chance?”
Amy shortly follows mother, coming out of the same room. Unlike me, who is the sole king of a whole room, mother and Amy share a room together.
“I have no idea, but at least I have a chance..”
“Hmm, I see.”
Upon closer inspection, Amy looks incredibly sleepy and walks toward the exit like a drugged zombie. Did she even hear what I just said...?
“Make sure to prepare for the exam.”
Mother continues to lecture me as she puts on her shoes by the door.
“They didn’t say what the test is about, can’t really prepare.”
“Is that so. At least go over some general subjects that might be related.”
“Okay, will do.”
She doesn’t name any specific subjects though, for she has very little knowledge in this field of work; she’s just a secretary in some company.
“Bye.... yawn...”
“Bye, Nicky. Lock the door for us.”
“Okay, bye.””
The pair of mother and sister walk outside and close the door.
I sigh and walk toward the door to lock it. Can’t they lock it themselves for a change?
After breakfast, I go and dig information about this “confidential exam”. I try searching subjects such as “Anomalia job interview” and read through forum posts.
A full hour of googling provides virtually no information on the subject. Seems like my only choice is to obediently wait until the fated day.
In the meantime, I might as well go over some general QA subjects... nah, better just play video games for now; I still have two more days to prepare.

Apollyon's Curse
Within the pages of folklore and fantasy, tales of people who chase after the dream of eternity, of living forever, rarely find a happy ending. They are either struck by the grim truth of reality, give up, and return to mortality or face a ghastly realization of their wishes. The latter often the worse fate, as they come to realize, only far too late, that what they sacrificed was worth far more than the time they gained. Ultimately, the common thread in these stories is that “immortality is as much a curse as it is a blessing”. People either realize it early and give up or are doomed to inevitably face its consequences. In the world Enrich lives in, that saying does hold merit. Every pathway towards eternal life has shackles of its own. They bring those high above down to the ground, evening the playing field. It is thanks to these fundamental laws that ambitious mortals are able to defy the heavens and achieve immortality themselves. The variety of methods result in each of these bindings varying in intensity and degree of freedom. Enrich’s path doesn't break this trend. Though, after what he did to himself, most wouldn’t even consider him a living thing anymore. On the day of his ascension, a world’s worth of souls were melted and recast. On that day, the human’s path had reached its conclusion, recast into Apollyon. An artifact, a weapon, is eternal, after all. As for the curse? The payment will be made, as it must. So why not offload the curse to someone else? Mortals throw their lives away for all manner of petty reasons, noble or otherwise, especially in desperation. Eventually, someone will be willing to foot the bill. Most will if given the chance. The bait is far too tempting, after all. Power, status, knowledge. All at their fingertips. If only they say “yes”. And Apollyon is very willing to help any lost souls. If they give up everything in return, of course.

Blackwood Company (A novel of grimdark sword and sorcery)
Sorela, a frustrated court wizard, is tasked with finding her High Lord’s son who went missing in a border skirmish near the cursed forest known as the Blackwood, or else he will go to war with his perceived enemies. As a mage, Sorela must support a higher ideal, and prevent this war from happening. To confound her troubles, Sorela's wool-brained handmaiden, Leisa, has insisted she come along as part of her trials, so that she may prove she deserves admittance to the Mage Academy and tutelage under Sorela in the immediate future. Against the mage's better judgment, she allows the girl to accompany her on this most important quest, as she and her lord's Captain Commander set out in secrecy with a band of barely trained boys. What’s missing from Sorela’s company are swords with experience. That’s where the questionable travelers come into the fold… Blackwood Company is a completed short novel of approximately 42,000 words/168 pages. I will be releasing a chapter daily.

Plague Time
Plague Time is the new virus killing folks in America. Set in December 2023, Curt Joiner recounts how the Plague was created and, if that wasn't bad enough, now he and his bloodline are stalked by a demon. Well, she wasn't a demon at first; first she was a young girl on a plantaion during the civil war. In 1865, amid the chared ruins of Georgia, she made a deal to get her fancy dresses and sweets back. You know who she made the deal with. All she had to do was stalk the men of Curt's family and pick off one per generation. Plauge Time is when Curt's number comes up. He’s writing to set the record straight, he says, but really he is pouring out the truth in the hopes that his wife will read it and forgive him. Or if not forgive, at least understand that he was an unfaithful husband and a cowardly man all on his own, but had outside help on the road to final damnation.

Lost Things
"In this disordered continent, where everyone seeks to be the heroes of their own tales, there are still some rooms for smaller stories to breathe." "Past, present, and future—keep your eyes open, and see where they lead you to." This story follows three housemates’ lives: Carson Calding, Virgil Barion, and John Salore—onto their adventures of finding Carson’s past, Virgil’s present, and John’s future. Despite their clashing backgrounds and circumstances that forced them together, they’re definitely going to find the things they had lost, for sure. Each entire chapter will be updated biweekly. There'll be three smaller parts per each chapter. Note that this story was written to be an interactive one, with polls at the end of each parts deciding on what happens next. Though, the polls for this story won't be available on Royal Road updates. (I also upload this in Arcane Odyssey forum, and it's currently the only place where I open the polls and use the poll results from.)
