《Land of Ilragorn》Chapter 4- The Duel

It is still morning, so the filolials are letting us rest in a hut in the corner of the village.
I am so tired that I go to sleep as soon as I walk four or five steps in the door.
I wake up in the hut and get my first real look at it. The structure itself was like a Native American teepee and it was filled with different animal pelts all around to make the walls, but I didn't see any pattern to it. It had furry furs, smooth furs, feathers, and what looked to be random scales all over the walls. The floor was filled with smooth furs with what I could only describe as a paint slosh in the middle of the floor of furry furs.
Mom was crouched down near my back sleeping as well, I try to get up quietly, but mom wakes up immediately, "Good sleep?"
"Like a baby," I say, and then I realize I am a baby, well whatever.
She studies me for a bit, then asks, "Can you tell me, how you got your name, Kwehzalcoatl, you got it from the Suvunktah divine beast right?"
"It's a pretty long story, I will have to tell you my ability first and something before that."
"We have plenty of time."
I told her that I have memories from my past life, and how I can copy people's stats and skills, and then I told her how I talked with Suvunkilbub and completed her quest.
Mom didn't seem surprised that I had memories from my past life, but my Copy Entity Number visibly surprised her, she wasn't interested in Suvunkilbub either.
After I was done with the story I asked her about why she didn't seem to care that I had memories or talked with Suvunkilbub.
"I saw your title with my analyze skill and I am not mad at it, why would I be, you get a major advantage with the knowledge you already had. Oh and Everybody already knows about Suvunkilbub, this is her territory."
I guess that makes sense, not really, but whatever, I got some major upgrades from her, and I'm not one to question free stuff.
I just remembered my question for mom, "Mom, why does your species have mother in it?"
"It's an evolution you get for being a mother, it gives me a couple of stat boosts and some motherly wisdom on what to do when I don't know what to do, also makes it so I can't hit you or abandon you, well yesterday was an accident, but usually it makes me an ideal mother."
That gave me a question, "what is evolution here," I ask, and hope it's like it was in the mangas.
"It is where you can get a higher species when you complete a certain requirement and can get stronger, but mother evolutions are a little different, you get the evolution and have it until the mothers child can react for itself, so for a dragon it is about a year, while for us Chocobo's it is only two months."
"Is their any way to find my evolution paths?"
"Ask analysis."
I look at myself and activate analysis...
"Evolution path 1: Adolescent Chocobo (Requirements: Live three months)"
"Evolution Path 2: Adolescent Kweh (Chubby Chocobo) (Requirements: Live three months, Eat 3 times your body weight regularly.)"
Well, no cool ones, but whatever, I am a type of bird anyway, and I have no desire to fly at all so this will probably be it, and I have no desire to be chubby so I will probably just go the regular route of Adolescent Chocobo.

Three Filolials walk in, two strong looking ones, blue and a pink fat one, and the gray filolial, I use analysis on the new ones...
"Target: Water Filolial LVL 42" "Target: Mother Filolial LVL 47 (Elementless)" "Analysis LVL 2 leveled up to LVL 3"
Makes sense, and still have no idea how analysis leveled up again, I used it when I was coming to the village to analyze some behemoths that I had to hide from. The behemoths were around LVL 40-60, so these filolials could probably take one down, I also got danger detection LVL 1.
I am just gonna guess that analyze levels up from uses and not from analyzing high-level monsters.
The gray filolial gets attention to herself and announces, "Your food is ready, the duel will commence after food is served."
I had completely forgotten about the duel, but I wasn't too worried, I am busted after all.
"To think that my child will be facing your child that is only a week old, sorry you have to see your child die before you do, we were planning to let you go once our children tired themselves out, but you know how children are, not knowing how to hold back, he will probably be done in one hit, but we can not stop the sacred duel once he has accepted."
I nearly laugh, but I contain myself, this is kinda perfect, they are completely looking down on me, my gamer sense is tingling at the thought of the free EXP.
We walk out and I notice mom is limping, probably from the boar, then I remembered my new skill, "mom hold on one second," I activate Recovery Magic on her...
"Recovery Magic relieved slightly pulled muscles, recovery 100%"
She is visibly surprised, "What the heck?"
"Skill I stole from Suvunkilbub, wanted to test it."
"Hurry up, we don't have all day."
It is noon and the filolials of all colors and sizes are around the middle of the village, with an empty stand in front of the biggest hut, nobody is talking, everybody is staring intently at two pieces of meat in the middle of their circle.
Wait, those are the boar and gator/water dragon that mom killed. Oh, they are hungry and we are making them wait.
We go to the spots the filolials motioned us to, and then one big filolial tore a chunk of meat off of the water dragon and gave it to me and my mom, then proceeded to give it to the entire village in a circle.
When all of the meat had been divided a blue and gray filolial walked out of the biggest hut and went up to the stand.
He gained attention to himself and everybody was looking at him, nobody had touched the meat, even though they were staring so intently before.
"Today we are gathered to witness a Sacred Duel between the pride of the village, my grandson, and a poor chocobo's week-old offspring, but first my daughters hunting group has managed to acquire some water dragon and behemoth meat, even though it was their first serious kill, they wish to share it with these vermin and even allow them to have the first bite. Now out of respect for my daughter's wishes, I will comply, but if you don't put in a good show at the duel, you won't have the best death," he said snootily.
How clique, first of all, he sounds like a corrupted noble, and second he took all the efforts of my mom and gave it to the gray filolial who was cowering in fear while my mom destroyed it.

"I allow you to take the first bite, vermin."
I humor him and stuff my face as fast and ugly as I can, the chief's face was priceless, I didn't even know birds could make a face that disgusted.
"Hey, what are you doing?"
"I'm hungry, of course, vermin like me eat like this, what other way is there to eat."
"You are so his child."
Oh yeah, I have to have a dad, questions for later.
I ease up on the gator meat, it is good, but would have been better cooked with salt. All of the filolials were eating slowly and in a dignified manner, even using their claws as forks and knives, they really copied a noble etiquette.
When we all were done they led us to the duel area, it was past noon, the area was filled with overgrown grass and I finally get to see my opponent, it was a gray and light purple baby filolial, just a little bit bigger than me.
The color gray was an element from his mother, but what is light purple, whatever, he will probably use it during our fight, and if he doesn't I will ask.
"Your opponent is Wild infant Filolial (LVL hidden for sacred duel)" "Demand: Will die in the cruelest way possible with the parent" "Would you like to make a demand?"
I smile, if he wants to be cliche, I will too, "yes, I want all filolials in the village to apologize to my mom for taking credit for her kills."
"Confirmed, sending demand offer to authority in the village to comply."
I look at the chief and he is sending so much pressure my way, I wonder if that is bloodlust, scary.
"Demand accepted. Starting sacred duel in 5...4..."
Well that is convenient, I get ready, I wonder if I should put on my magic armor... Nah, he should be pretty weak, I will just hit him with crushing beak.
"2...1... START!!!!!"
He immediately disappears, and I see an invisible figure running through the grass straight to me starting from where my opponent was.
What the heck, why can he turn invisible, whatever, I just need to win and I will get to see that insufferable old man apologize to my mom.
I run towards the figure, jump, and then kick him. He appears and is knocked out. In my past life, I had a button that said 'That was easy,' when pressed and I wanted to press it so bad.
"Sacred duel won by Kwehzalcoatl." "Gained 32 EXP" "Demand must be met in 10 minutes or penalty will be issued."
I look at the filolials and they all have eyes out of their sockets and mouths three feet down, "ummmm, it said 'Demand must be met in ten minutes or else a punishment will be issued or something like that, so chop chop, get on it, we don't have all day here."
They all look dumbfounded and then gain their composure, they all bow to my mom, "we are very sorry that we insulted you verm- you and your son,", "we are very sorry for taking credit for your kills even after we nearly died without you."
"You better be, now Kwehzalcoatl lets go back to our nest, we should get there before sunset."
"One sec," I wanted to use recovery magic on the baby filolial, to try to get closer to the level up.
"Recovery Magic healed minor head injury, 85% recovery."
Not 100? I'll use it again...
"Recovery Magic healed minor head injury, 100% recovery."
"Ok lets go."
"Wait, hold on, I have never lost, you must have cheated, how did you see me," the baby filolial demands to know, figures if the parents are spoiled the child is going to be too.
"Very simple, I saw you disappear and saw the grass clearing the way from where you were, so I assumed the figure was you, it was elementary" I explain in a snooty voice.
He thought about it for a second and then said, "Grandpa, was it obvious where I was, be honest or I won't like you."
"For me it was, but for mere common folk and vermin you should be completely invisible."
He thought about it again and then demanded, "You will sacred duel me in a place where you have a clear disadvantage and you will tell me what to do to beat you, or I will cry."
"No."
He jumped back in confusion, "Wh-wat did you say."
I walked up real close and whispered in his ear, "No." Then I realized I was probably the first person to say that to him.
I looked at their chief, pure bloodlust from him, I look at the gray filolial, she is the same.
"Think about it my way, I barely get any reward, and if I do that I have a chance to lose, isn't that unfair to me."
He thinks about it again, and then says, "My grandpa will give you five level-up pills if you win."
The chief gasped and sent more bloodlust, that made it intriguing enough, "What are level up pills?"
The chief intervened, "pills that blow you up and make your ancestors hate you, now my sweet little grandson I think we should let these disgusting chocobo's go to their dump, okay, okay."
My opponent started bawling, but no tears came out since we are birds, it was just a bunch of obnoxious noises, "I want to win... the tactics you gave me were stupid... he is smarter than you... let me fight him again now," he said while throwing a fit.
"Fine, but only five, they are super rare and we have to steal them from humans to get them," he said in defeat.
"Ummm, I didn't say I would fight you, I still don't know what Level Up pills do."
"They make you stronger."
"How much stronger?"
"They level up one skill," the chief said monotone.
That is super useful, maybe it can level up my Copy Entity Number skill, that would make me as strong as a dragon at one-month-old.
"Ok I will do it, so you have to do exactly as I tell you..."
Thirty minutes later...
We are in the forest surrounded by plenty of trees and the duel is about to start.
He is across from me in a ready to run position...
"3...2...1...START!!!!"
He runs behind the trees and starts running around me, just as we planned.
Next, he chooses a tree and disappears behind it making me look back at the tree he disappeared behind, check.
Then I run to look if he is behind that tree, he's not, he disappeared.
I hear him jumping around me, but he is changing directions so I can't follow his movements well.
And then he pounces, right in my blind spots aiming for a vital spot to hit.
I activate magic armor, red light covers my vitals with black flame decals on the edges.
He hits the light and is bumped back about 3 feet, and before he lands I use crushing beak and bite him, his leg bone is broken.
He faints from the pain, for the third time. I won 5 Level Up pills, Claw equips, and one order from the other person, I suggested that one.
"Sacred duel won by Kwehzalcoatl." "Gained 48 EXP"

Fallout: Vault X
An original novel set in the Fallout universe, written to be accessible to all, featuring unique people and places. Vol.II. out now Fallout: Vault X tells the story of John. A vault dweller, who spent every day of his twenty five years underground. Like his father, and his father before him. Proud to live in the last remaining bastion of humanity, all that survived The Great War of the atomic age. Hidden deep below the surface of the earth, toiling under brutal conditions. Year after year, decade upon decade. All to expand into the natural cave system the Vault occupied, building for the future. However, John knew what his forefathers did not, that everything he’d been taught was a lie. After finishing school at the age of ten, John received his standard issue pipboy. An arm mounted personal computer, worn by everyone in the Vault. Used to coordinate the relentless pace of expansion, needed to work as an apprentice. To learn the craft that would be his life’s work. A noble calling to ensure a future for all that remained of the human race. A quirk of fate saw John equipped not with the crude, clunky, pipboy model his father wore. That almost everyone around him wore. His looked smaller, sleeker, finished in a jet black sheen. And capable of doing far more than its drab counterparts. The world above had been ravaged by atomic flames, yet life clung to its bones. The Red Valley fared better than most in the century since the bombs fell. The clean water and rich soil protected by rolling hills. All spared from direct strikes, for the most part. Life survived here. Trees spawned from charred ground, misshapen, green leaves turned red. Along with simple crops, grown wild at first, then cultivated by the survivors. The scavengers of the old world were inventive, hardy people. All determined to rebuild in the ruins of a world they never knew. In the decades that passed settlements emerged. They grew, spreading along the valley floor. Reclaiming the pre-war remnants of the once industrialised heartland. Salvaging the robotic wonders of a bygone age to build their walls and work their fields. To protect them in the dark of the wasteland. But such things are uncommon in this world, and the rarer something is, the greater its value. And the worth of pre-war technology had not gone unnoticed. The last, real, power in this world rested in the mechanised hands of The Brotherhood of Steel. Forged from the mortally wounded old world military. The Brotherhood used its access to the weapons made for a conflict no one won to strike out into the wastes. Men and women were equipped with advanced armour, aerial transportation, high grade weaponry. Accompanied by the training, strength, and will, to put them to use. They established chapters and set up outputs far and wide. All dedicated to a single purpose. To ensure the technology left abandoned by its long dead creators didn’t fall into the wrong hands. Namely, any hands that were not their own. This is the world John escaped into. A place of horrors brought forth from atomic fire. A place where survival meant battling against the darkness. Fighting a war each day to get to the next. And war...war never changes
