《Kenosis of the Light Bearer》Chapter 6 - How did the world end up this way?

Lucif could barely finish a single meal. His stomach couldn’t handle that much food after starving for years on end. But it tasted good, oh so good. He could feel the energy being absorbed as his stomach rapidly digested the food.
‘This job could be the greatest thing that has ever happened to me so far. With all this food I will slowly be able to strengthen my body. It will provide me the nutrients I need to grow stronger.’
He patted his stomach as he stood up from his chair.
‘But damn, these super humans are ridiculous. Even if I train my whole life my speed and strength will never be able to match theirs. A single strike would instantly kill me!’
The old man watched Lucif snickering to himself, “I’ve never seen anyone eat food so angrily. You don’t like it? You barely touched your food.”
“It’s not that I don’t like it’s that I’ve been starving for so long that I don’t have any room to store all the food.”
“Hah, poor kid. If only you had my inhuman digestive prowess.”
“If only… How do I become a super human then? How can I be as powerful as you?”
“Become a super human like me? Hah, kid. You don’t know much about super humans do ya?” The old man laughed and chuckled.
He shook his head clearly and said “I know next to nothing.”
“Well at least you are honest when you don’t know something. Listen up here kid. Humans that are genetically modified will pass down their modified genes to their offspring. But the modified humans themselves are no different than normal humans. Their children on the other hand are born physically different. They have perfect control of their muscles and their senses because these things can only be developed in the womb. Some have photographic memory and others are vastly superior to normal humans in every way.”
“Of course not all super humans are equal. I have powerful muscles but I have a poor memory and the heightened senses that others might be born with. But overall our super human’s senses and strength is vastly superior to normals like you. So you see kid, you can’t become a super human. Your parents have to carry the genes that make you a superhuman. Otherwise it’s impossible.”

Lucif frowned, he was obviously unhappy with the answer. ‘Dammit, so I can’t become super human? Tsk…’
“If I get modified will my children be super human?”
“Modified? That’s also impossible…”
Lucifer frowned even more, it looked like his face was about to peel off. “Why is it impossible?”
The old man paused for a moment as he gathered his thoughts. “Because we are the only planet with super humans, it’s the reason the UCA invaded us. Before the UCA could steal our technology our engineers and scientist nuked themselves and wiped all information related to its growth and development off the map. The UCA has been trying for years now to recreate their results, they even kidnapped super humans to experiment on but it yielded no results.”
“How decisive.”
“Indeed. At the time our relations with the UCA were already bad but then the war started and ignited their fury. They chose to kill themselves to spite the efforts of the UCA and make their invasion a wasted effort.”
“I see they were brave men and women, not afraid to give their lives for their country. Are super human abilities hereditary? Are your children super human?”
The old man nodded his head, “Yes, my children are super human. But they are locked up in a maximum security super human prison and I’m only allowed one visit a year. To free them I need 5 million dollars. I’m getting old now so I have no idea if I will be able to make enough money to free them in my life time. I can only hope I find a chunk of rare gems. I’ve found some before but it seems like it’s never enough.”
The old man lived a sad life, desperately working like a dog to raise the money to free his family. It turns out that many other abnormals here were working towards the same dream. That’s how the UCA controls the super human population. They imprison their relatives and force them to obediently slave for them while feeding them a false sense of hope.

Only one word came to Lucif’s mind ‘Genius.’, but he wouldn’t openly praise his enemies for their well thought out strategy and manipulation techniques.
Lucifer felt cold anger building up inside of him as his will to fight burst through his body. “If we had the only super humans in the galaxy then how did the UCA beat us in the war?”
“What, kid you don’t know? It’s general knowledge.”
Lucif shook his head, “The war ended when I was in the womb and my mother would never talk about it.”
“Ah, I see. It was a traumatic war for a lot of us and it’s become a taboo to speak of so I see why you don’t know. It wasn’t a war, it was a massacre. We were physical superior and had sharper senses but their weapons were made for specifically for killing. What are you going to do against a ship that sits in space and annihilates entire countries in one shot? Even their foot soldiers wore special armor that could handle up to 50 tons of force. Not many super humans have the ability to overcome that kind of defense besides a few garrison leaders. The weapons they came with were terrible and could liquefy us abnormals in a single shot.”
“Our soldiers fought bravely without regard for their lives, our engineers quickly built counter weapons and we destroyed their mothership but by the time that happened, it was already too late. Millions of their men had infiltrated and stormed the capital. The majority of super humans were killed in the initial bombardments. We managed to kill tens and thousands but their numbers came in endless streams. We fought bravely but in the end they used round about tactics. While we were on the front lines they snuck into our houses and kidnapped our families. After that we surrendered and stopped resisting.”
“The result is what you see now. A world in poverty being destroyed and strip mined. Nuclear radiation and pollution is filling the skies. The animals, fish, insects, trees and humans are slowly wilting away and dying. It’s a dead world.”
“Believe it or not it wasn’t always this way, you won’t remember because you were born post war but before the war began this planet was a wonderful paradise. The lands were full of animals and birds that filled the sky. Beautiful blue grass bloomed all over the world and there was harmony and bliss.”
The old man started to get choked up as he remembered the past. Lucifer silently thought to himself, ‘Blue grass? That sounds like something I’d want to see. If I ever have the power, I will restore this world to its former magnificence so that I may see the blue grass bloom once again.’
“If only I could return to those times, but for now all I can do it labor tirelessly until I rescue my daughters. We have completely lost the war, after they are safe we will leave this planet.”
One thing he mentioned really trigged Lucif’s mind into overdrive as he thought it over some more.
‘We are the only planet with super humans so that means the guards are normal humans? If I can steal a liquefier then wouldn’t I be the powerful one?’
Lucif started to develop a devious scheme in his mind. ‘Yeah, that should work. That should work just fine.’
