《Kenosis of the Light Bearer》Chapter 56 - Specimen Room

Aruna woke up to the strong smell of stale puke, “Eh, what’s that horrible smell?”
As she looked down she found herself covered in it. It was cold and dry with blobs of slob that stained her shirt.
‘Puke? I think I drank too much last night.’ She rubbed her head and rubbed it gently, her head still slightly spinning from the night before.
Luar walked in a moment later and announced, “Breakfast is ready…Ah..”
She screamed as she grabbed her nose, the smell was like a wave as it assaulted her, “But you should wash up first.” Luar quickly exited the room holding her nose and went downstairs into the kitchen. She grabbed a seat and sat down with Ambrosia and started to eat, but she had lost her appetite after being overwhelmed by that fowl stench.
At this time Lucifer had just finished his daily workout and was ready to boil another pot of rice. It was basically the only food here so he didn’t have much choice. It reminded him of the time back on Planet Almega but the rice was of higher quality but still failing in comparison to the food purchased with meal tickets.
“Pah, finally. I can speak. You damn kid, you are immoral, I’ll kill you, do you know who I am? I am the Grim Reaper! Reaper of souls and…”
Lucif quickly shoved the cotton back into its mouth and went on his way. The ship was quite large; it had thousands of rooms and a giant food hall kitchen. But its technology wasn’t like what existed in the outside world. There were no meal ticket food dispensers and none of the other great revolutions in scientific advancement that currently existed.
If what the skeleton said was true, then this was a piece of very ancient technology, a civilization that had space travel over 100,000 years ago. Lucif tried to recall such a civilization but he had heard nothing about it. The Exceed, Elves, Dwarves, Fairies, Orcs and Cthulhu were among the first races with space travel, but the earliest among them was only 3,000 years ago.

How advanced would a society with such a rich history be? And where were they now? It was entirely possible that they had wiped themselves out or perhaps they were swallowed by a black hole. He didn’t know anything so he could only make a few speculations.
On the computer screen was the same old Milky Way galaxy swirling around in brilliance and splendor. It reminded him of the exam hall floor. He decided to click a random spot on the map and it quickly zoomed in as stars and planets whizzed by. Across the screen were 3 stars orbiting each other, surrounding them were numerous planets, asteroids and moons. Above their celestial bodies were coordinates of their position and as they flew through space the coordinates changed quickly.
“Interesting, this must be a map of the Milky Way Galaxy.”
He clicked on a planet that was surrounded by small satellites and zoomed in once again. Now he was looking at the planet from a bird’s perspective. The view was incredibly realistic, the planets seem real and not something that could be computer generated. But he had seen virtual reality for himself and knew its capabilities.
He zoomed in once again and now he was looking at a city. It was a slightly less advanced type I civilization, it was similar to earth before interplanetary space travel except the building designs were vastly different. Instead of tall square buildings, they had triangular ones. He zoomed in again and saw strange green humanoid creatures walking around and going about their day. The gravity of the planet also seemed different as the creatures were taller than their earthen counterparts by 2 or 3 feet.
Lucif reached forth and clicked on one of the green aliens, now the view followed the green alien’s movements. The tall green alien walked into a shop and purchased some purple fruit and went about its day.
“How interesting but what is this exactly? Is it something like google maps?”
He zoomed out and tried to find Earth but the galaxy was simply too large and he had no idea where it was located. Even if he found the co-ordinates it would be hard to locate Earth because the Earth constantly rotated around a star and that star was consistently rotating around a super massive black hole. It had been a thousand years since his existence on planet Earth. He wasn’t even sure if it even existed anymore. Was it destroyed in the great millennial war or did it survive? He was curious to find out but at the current time it wasn’t on his list of priorities.

He clicked on the rooms menu and scrolled down. That’s when he saw something that piqued his interest. ‘A specimen room, that sounds like something handy.’
The sides started to shift and change as the walls rearranged themselves. Finally, a big room was revealed. As he walked in he saw various creatures. They were stuck in suspended animation being held in the air by some strange force. Some of the creatures were grotesque while others were very pleasing to the eye.
“Is this really a mad scientist’s lab? Or perhaps a weird zoo collection. Hey wait, that’s a human and this one is an Elf. Over here is an Ogre and a Xenomorph.”
Lucif began to browse across the selection, each one vastly different from the other. Beneath the human being was the name ‘Homo Sapien’ and behind it were various other creatures.
“Homo Erectus, Homo Habilis, Australopithecus and even Nakalipithecus! I can’t believe it. This is a complete model of human evolution.”
And it wasn’t just the Homo sapiens evolutionary line. They had one for each and every species that had ever existed. All he had to do was type in the creatures name and it would be materialized in front of him.
He could then analyze them by removing their skin, x-raying their bodies or MRI scanning. The creatures weren’t real. They were just a hologram compiled from information and data but it was incredibly detailed and the hologram was as real as anything else in reality.
“This will be handy, especially after I start studying biology. Speaking of which…”
He swiped his school gem and a list of his classes appeared.
Subject – History
Next lecture – Today, 3:00 pm
Subject – Robotic Engineering
Next lecture – Wednesday, 3:00 pm
Subject – Biology
Next lecture – Thursday, 3:00 pm
You only had to attend class 3 times a week, each class lasted 3 hours and each subject was repeated 3 times a day. Once at 12:00 pm, the second session at 3:00 pm and the third at 6:00 pm. You could pick and choose which classes to attend but each lesson on the day was basically the same, so attending two of the same classes on the same day was a waste of time. He had reserved his lessons for 3:00 pm, this was recommended by Adela.
Most students study 12 subjects but Adela recommended him 3 since he is only a mortal.
“Next lecture is in 6 hours from now. I have no clue how far I am from the closest sky station so I better leave ASAP.”
He grabbed the VR Headset on the bed. It would just weigh him down at the moment but he didn’t want to leave it. He wasn’t sure when he could return here so he had to take it with him. The next time he returned, he would have to face the red lightning again but if last time taught him anything. It was that it wasn’t worth the risk. It was just too dangerous. Once he figured out a method to safely navigate passed the red lightning he would return.
“See ya skelly boy, I’m off to school now. Behave and don’t gnaw the furniture too bad. Sayonara!”
“K…kik…hh..kik” The self-proclaimed God of Death grumbled in frustration as Lucif opened the door and walked into the dark underground cave. The door closed behind him as he made his way towards the river.
“Here goes nothing.”
Lucif jumped into the water and was sucked down into the hole. He didn’t know where it led but he was hoping it lead to an exit. The current flowed quite fast so he didn’t have to swim, all he had to do was focus on holding his breath.

This is a story of two old men trying to free from the shackle of their destiny set in a future only to await their impending doom. This is a story of a dead god, and of a storyteller, trying to break from the bonds of the past. And as their stories go, one of them will face the events that unfold in their distant past, as the other one will unveil its mystery predicted by its future. Is it a mistake to challenge fate, after all? *** The world-building is set upon on the universal scale, with dungeon and old-style fantasy. It has a progression that follows with the consistency of a dungeon setting, although it's not what you call a dungeon, but a function of a crystal. There's a lot to take in this novel, but that's all within my intention. I have always enjoyed challenging conventional ideas. The cover is not mine, it's just temporary.
