《HofN original》Chapter 26.1- Hunie's awakening
Advertisement
Hunie wrapped herself in the blanket on the bed. She couldn't believe her actions; how embarrassing. To show up her maid prowess to all those people that weren't her master.
"This one is so shamed." She said, counting the made tips she had received. Really though, she was more upset with the fact she had allowed herself to become inebriated ("How do I know that word?" She thought) and act outside her normal behavior. She resolved herself to never lose control over her actions again, especially after seeing the look of shock on her master's face.
She moaned again, rolling around on the bed at the memory. A maid should act with grace and maturity at all times, that what she was aiming to be. Except, why did she want to be a maid again? Why did she know what a maid was in the first place? Her entire existence was strange now, ever since she had first met Master. That word again, Master. Why did she feel the need to call him that, the feeling that it was right somehow. She hid it well, but she was kinda scared of herself. Knowledge came to her, things she shouldn't know were right there, as if plucking fruit hidden in a tree.
Dwelling on it, she definitely knew it all started because of Master, because of what he did to her. Yes, that was when her entire existence changed, when she was given a name.
-----------------------
"“I’ll call you Hunie.” He declared, “Because you’re the sweetest rabbit I’ve ever met.
The rabbit froze, and looked Steel straight in the eye. It stared for the longest time, before licking his cheek and hopping off into the grassland, back to join the other rabbits."
"Hunie" was the name the human she was on top of called her. Her entire body had frozen at the words, as if every part of her being was taking in the new information. She could do things now, like refer to herself, and she could FEEL. Amazed and confused, she had licked the human and ran away. She went to her usual spot and rested, chewing on a carrot.
However, it wasn't the same anymore. She felt as if a curtain had been taken off of her, and she could see the world for the first time. 'Hu...Hu...Hun...Hun-ie', that was her first thought, as if tasting a carrot for the first time. She didn't understand still, she was still a bunny, but she felt as if the greatest gift of the world had been granted by that human.
What she didn't know then, but would later realize, was that Steel's words had helped gift the greatest gift, sentience and self-awareness.

She couldn't just sit around and eat carrots anymore, she felt the need to look ahead. The human, yes, she would wait for him. She would help him, no, thank him with help. Was that right? She didn't dwell, she didn't know how. So she waited, watching the gate for days, hoping to see him again.
She had led a bunny charge on the wolf that entered the grassland, and been surprised to see the human there. She didn't have time to interact with him, she was too busy fighting and then eating. Then he had gone again. She was sad. She didn't know why, but she resumed her vigil waiting near the gate for him.
Then, he came out again. She felt something when her eyes laid on him, something good, she didn't know what it was.
She decided to greet him this time. He made it ten minutes into the grassland with his guard down when her white missile body slammed into his chest, knocking him over and the wind out of him.
-10 impact damage
"Pa...pain." She watched the numbers rise into the air. She had hurt him, she hadn't meant to. He didn't seem to mind too much. Coughing, he pulled his torso up to inspect the white projectile sitting on his lap. She stared up at him, her cute pink nose twiddling in the air. He stared at her awhile.
"Geez, that hurt you know?" He complained.
She heard the words, but didn't understand them, just the feelings behind the words. Not knowing what to so, she just stared up and him and wiggled her nose.
He got up, and Hunie hopped down beside him, watching him. The human regarded the rabbit for a moment.
"Hunie?" He asked.
Name, he said her NAME! She understood the name had changed her, he had given it to her. She immediately stood on her back legs and stretched herself up, looking at his face. In a sudden move, she leaped up and licked his cheek before he could react, before falling back down into a sitting position. The human shook his head.
"I can't believe you're here." He said, shaking his head, "Shouldn't you be off doing rabbit things, like babies and slaughtering noobs?"
Hunie had no idea what he was saying, so she scratched the back of her neck with her foot. He sighed, and began walking toward the forest again. Hunie stopped scratching and hopped alongside him in time.
"So, your just going to keep following me huh?" He asked while walking.
She felt the question, but continued hopping.
"You know I'm doing a suicide mission to find the wolf lair right?"
Death, she felt that from his words. She didn't like that, he wouldn't die with her. She hissed at him and headbutted his leg in anger. He stumbled, but took no damage.

"What, are you going to protect me or something?" He asked sarcastically. She understood one of his words, "protect". Of course she would take care of him, he was a weak human after all. She stopped moving, and let her smugness flow out of her.
He complained, but she ignored him. She merely patted his leg with her ear and hopped in front of him toward the forest.
-------------------------
Hunie led her human down the grassland. She didn't quite understand what he wanted, but he had said the word "wolf" a lot, a word which inspired both fear and hunger in her. She was leading him to where the wolf smell was strongest, hopefully the place he wanted to go.
They had traveled while, skirting the forest edge as she remembered the predators that waited for something to walk out of the forest into the trap.
The human seemed to be upset with her. He pointed at the forest and asked her something. She didn't understand, she kept moving. He stopped following her, and walked directly toward the forest.
'No!'. That was the wrong way! She knocked him, trying to stop him. He said something toward her, a feeling of smugness, pride, and arrogance. She jumped at him again, he dodged, she kept flying. She landed, and something shot out and grabbed her.
'Predator!' her mind shouted at her as the plant gobbled her up. She wouldn't go down without a fight, she latched onto the inside with her teeth, holding on for dear life as the thing moved back and forth. It tried to swallow her, the sliminess threatening to dislodge her, a feeling of weakness starting to overtake her.
She heard the human screaming outside, felt the plant respond to his threat and fight back. The mouth moved back and forth, giving her a momentary view of the human's face, then back into the darkness. It was getting harder to stay awake, the sliminess was draining her energy.
Then, the plant gave off a wail, loud and dying. Something shot out from behind her, a sharp tongue. It flew around the mouth before stabbing her. The mouth twisted suddenly, and she was thrown out of the plant. She couldn't move anymore, she was too weak now.
She just lay there, feeling her life slowly drain out of her. Then, she felt herself being lifted into the air and hugged. It was warm, she liked the position. She relaxed, feeling that dying like this would be okay. The human was crying, she felt his tears falling onto her face. He was calling her name, but it was getting so hard to hear him now. She felt his lips on hers, the soft feeling of his tongue entering, followed by the flow of liquid into her mouth. She felt it healing her, but she was too far gone for it save her.
Darkness claimed her sight, her touch, her thoughts.
Nothing remained.
Yet, she was still there, or here, or somewhere.
Things flowed around her, like little lights traveling in lines, moving up and down and sideways.
She couldn't feel herself, yet she was there, in this world of light.
She didn't like this place; it was cold, unfeeling, devoid of light and darkness. She wanted to go back, back to him, back to....she didn't know. She couldn't move, fear began to creep up on her.
Then, voice spoke to her, whispering through her essence.
"Do you want to go back? Do you want to see him again?"
"Ye..ye..yes. I want to go back." She thought to herself, hoping the voice could hear her. Warmth enveloped her, the same warmth as when he picked her up. She felt her essence being cradled by something or someone.
"Go back then little one, go back and watch over your chosen one. Your friend, your lover, your...Master. Serve him well, for my path will not be an easy one. Keep him on the path, follow your programming and listen to your feelings."
She felt herself falling now, away from the warmth, away from the lines of light. She wanted to ask questions, but she was falling too fast.
A distant giggle sounded in the distance, "Know me young one as Milna, and know that knowledge will come to you when you need it. For now, grow and learn as one of the new children in this world. The gods watch over you, remember that and be cautious."
Then she was falling toward a light in the darkness. The light enveloped her, and she felt herself again, a body to feel things. The feeling of the grass below her, of the wind touching her face. She opened her eyes, and got up, feeling a little sleepy. She turned, and there he was. She knew him now, knew what he was.
She smiled at him and cried out in happiness, "Master!"
----------------------------
Because the chapter was getting way to long, I decided to break it down into several segments of Hunie's point of view. Yesterday was....well, you can't control everything that happens. I'll release the regular chapter later today, then either release the second short story about Hunie's day in the market tonight or tomorrow. Look forward to the expedition and another member of the girl group ;)
