《Unlimited Evolution》Chapter 1

“What the hell?” immediately a commotion was raised when the wall opposite to us was destroyed and a grotesque monster came in. Everyone including me backed away in fear even though that creature was still that far away. We humans were afraid of a mere rabid dog, a weird clown was more than enough to frighten us for life, let alone this grotesque creature that looked like an incarnation of Lovecraft's imagination. All it lacked were tentacles to play the part.
I felt my heartbeat increased at a rapid pace while my body starting to sweat. I felt dizzy and bile started to rise from my stomach. The creature was hideous as it was scary. Not only that the mace on its hand only made it more menacing to the eye. Even before my mind registered anything, my legs already carrying my body away from the scene. It was all instinct.
“Hmm? Fuck! What the hell, why such a strong thing’s here?” faintly I heard Adam’s complaint. Hearing him call this creature strong, I only hastened my speed of running. I have no destination in mind, there was just one thought, I have to get away from this place. I must run as far as possible from this strange and grotesque creature as fast as I could. I even didn’t dare to look back, concentrating only on running together with everyone present in the room. Even the ferocious man earlier transformed into a scaredy cat, running away faster than everyone else.
“Adam, please help me!! I will do everything you say, help me!!” the woman who betrayed Smiths earlier plead for help as she ran behind everyone else. She stood to the front during the whole fiasco with Adam and Smiths. Now that the situation had changed and everyone running back, she happened to be left in the extreme end, together with Smiths the old man. Which also happen to be the most dangerous place in this situation.
As I mentioned before, my physique was pathetic. Even a little kid could outrun me. Hence when the monster appeared, everyone started to run. Some of the agile ones were forefront runners while people like me with weak and untrained bodies were left in the dust. The forerunner was Adam who had definitely gained some magic ability. That speed and agility wasn’t explainable by logic. Even snakes couldn’t be that agile, he just passed through the frantic running crowd without much difficulty, overtaking them within seconds.

As for me, I was among the few who were in last row of runners. My running speed was low and due to my short height, my small legs couldn’t carry me fast enough. Also I got tired easily… it can’t be helped. I never took care of my health before today. Going to KFC every third day, stuffing at Dominos almost every day, the only reason I wasn’t a fat man with a protruding belly was because of my lazy lifestyle compelling me to skimp on diets.
The man named Adam was long since disappeared somewhere.
Roar!!!
Boom!!
Suddenly we all heard a ferocious roar that resembled a godzilla’s roar in the movie. My ear rang and my mind swam for a second there. If not for my momentum, I would have fallen face first there and then. Followed by that ferocious roar, a massive explosion occurred that tore apart the floor we were running on. It literally parted from the middle with half of it sinking down a little. Looking down I found a massive fissure followed by a huge spider web crater.
I still couldn’t tell if it was unconscious or intentional, I looked back at that time. The purple creature was still standing near the wreckage it came through, only its mace touched the tiled floor while the creature was in an odd posture. Realization dawned upon me then and there, this explosion was caused by this grotesque creature. That thing, with just a swing of its mace, literally destroyed a floor around five hundred or more square meters. As far as I was concerned at that time, not even the fabled TNT could cause such destruction. This creature however did it with just a casual swing.
I began lose hope, coupled with the uneven terrain after the explosion, my legs stumbled on a crack as I fell down face first. My left knee was hurt due to a protruding rock on the ground. The pain was so intense that I even forgot my name for a second there. My nose was also broken but I didn’t register it until the pain on my knees elevated a little.
Moving my eyes, I found a tragic sight. Five people were crushed to meat pastes by the explosive force of that creature’s attack. Among them the girl who wanted Adam’s protection was there. Half of her body was crushed to a patty, including bones. Her inner organs were spilling out from the other half that was relatively unharmed. Her eyes were wide as dinner plates, as if until her demise she couldn’t believe this was happening. I barely resisted the urge to vomit. Maybe the tearing pain on my knees was to blame for this, no matter what I was able to inspect my surroundings despite the gory scene right before my eyes.

The other four were not even in a recognizable shape. They literally turned into meat paste. But the damage didn’t end there; the remaining people were also affected one way or other. Some were seriously injured like losing a limb or having a stone puncturing their body, while others were with some light wounds that would probably heal itself in a few hours. Very few were like me whose injuries weren’t deep but not light as well. I had my knee punctured by a protruding stone that time, probably scratching the bone inside, hence the overwhelming pain.
While I was moaning and groaning in pain, the ones who were least injured stood up and hastened. Those who similarly wounded as me, struggle to follow the suit. As for me, even if I wanted to, I could not. My knee might have fractured from the impact. Let alone stand, even a slightest jerk caused me serious pain. Ultimately, I stayed put not having the courage to even stand and run.
Roar!
The grim reaper like existence, the purple creature roared again that time. I stiffened unintentionally. Once beaten twice shy. I, who already had suffered under its massive inhuman strength already, developed a phobia to this particular Godzilla-ish roar. This time though I did not dare to look back… more like I didn’t need to look back to see the monster.
Boom!!
Because it was already before me. It’s hulking form casted a shadow of doom on my body. I was shocked, so much that all my cognitive functions ceased functioning. The thing was just a hand’s distance away from me. From the corner of my eye, I saw one of his purple foots squishing the remaining half of the girl into paste. I lost control of my bladder. Piss already wetting my pant as the monster’s beady red eyes stared down at me.
Roar!
It roared at me once again and I directly lost my consciousness after that. Later I found something interesting; it wasn’t that I lost consciousness, from the fear and its roar, my heart ceased functioning and I died instantly.
That’s the last of my memory as a human being.
That’s right as a human being.
Well, it turned out, somehow after dying from a heart attack due to my excessive fear of the monster, I didn’t just go to heaven or hell… or perhaps I did and came back as I don’t remember those memories. It’s up for debate for now.
When I opened my eyes; at first I was very disoriented from a changed vision. Not like what I remember. The chromatic clear vision that I remember having now replaced by a strange amalgamation of bright red and yellow. It was disorienting and very hard to get used to. That’s not the least of my worries, for some reason I felt lethargic. As if, my vigor was draining just by doing this complex thinking.
I tried to rub the sleep off my eyes, but try as I might, I couldn’t lift my hands or legs.
I felt sleepy all of a sudden… so I slept. I couldn’t fight off the urge anyway. When I opened my eyes after some unidentifiable time, while the same red and yellow background existed, I no longer felt sluggish. Also I stopped feeling tired just from looking around and thinking. What caught me off-guard was the addition to my red and yellow world.
