《Unlimited Evolution》48. No More a Chief

Chapter 48: No more a chief.
I ordered one of the orcs to feed the humans with the food they brought with them. Aside from that, I didn’t care about them anymore. Showing kindness to one’s enemies was no different than digging a hole for oneself. Moreover, from what I heard from Leah, a warrior’s body was very durable. They wouldn’t die just from spending a night in a hole.
That night, I didn’t sleep until it was really late. I was reading the book, Monsterpedia, until then. It contained a lot of valuable information about the monster world and how they affected the human community. In this book, my race’s evaluation really spooked me out. Including everything, the total cost of an adult Dream Weaver was in five digits. Although I don’t know much about the human currency of this world, five digits should be huge, right?
That aside, I finally obtained the much-needed information about alignments. This so-called alignment was of three types; good, neutral, and evil. There was no specific description of the three given in the book. But after a whole hour of reading and collecting data, I finally drew a conclusion. Moreover, there was one common trait I found, that is, those of evil alignment tend to have more weaknesses than others. Some of them were even crippling.
For example, there was a race called Vampires, which was a very familiar name to me. They were marked as beings of extreme evil in the book due to their various abilities and how they see humans as foods. Their rank was S, which was five levels above me. They can shapeshift, mind-control, make ghouls by injecting their saliva into a host’s body, and many more abilities that would make one’s hairs stand. Their physical attributes weren’t something to look down on as well.
But, as strong as they were, their weaknesses were also that much glaring. For one, they can’t go out to sunlight. The radiation from the sunlight will damage their skin faster than anything out there. So they could never come out during the day time, not even holding an umbrella. Then there’s their weakness to silver and stain-less steel weapons. They can’t even tolerate the sounds of low frequency. And let’s not forget about the old and popular method of driving a stake to their hearts.

Aside from these weaknesses of the familiar monster, the thing that managed to surprise me further was the words used in the book. Radiation to describe sunlight, frequency to describe the sound, all these were scientific terms I was familiar with from earth. Seeing them appear in a book of a different world, it led me to believe that science also developed to an extent int his world. It was so different from the stereotypes I was used to that I couldn’t sit still for a moment. My excitement levels rose to a new height.
After learning how monsters of evil alignment have too many fatal weaknesses, I sighed in relief for not selecting the Dream Eater path when it appeared. Had I chosen it like a fool back then, no doubt a weakness that would seem idiotic and fatal might have appeared. Coupled with the warning that came with it that I could only choose Evil alignment path from henceforth, I would have only accumulated weakness.
I guess, sometimes, it was a good thing to be a coward.
…
The following morning I went outside of the goblin lord’s cave to the place where the two humans were half-buried. Upon arriving, I saw a very comical scene. Several orc children and goblin children surrounded them and were seemingly messing with them from time to time. However, I was in no mood to pay attention to them and ran towards the back of the cave, to the bushes.
Its been close to a week since I became a Dream Weaver, but that day was the first time I had this familiar feeling in my lower abdomen. After so many days, it was finally the time when I felt the desperate need to take a leak. Until today I thought the penis like protrusion in the front was only for procreation, guess, I was wrong.
There was this one time I tried to have an erection. It took me a lot of effort, recalling all those stimulating movies I had watched. But when I did got an erection, I have to say, I was sorely disappointed. Only a small red carrot-shaped protrusion came out of my penis. The thing that disappointed me the most was its small size.

I leaked a bucket load of black water into the bushes. As soon as the black urine touched the bushes, a hissing sound came, and the small plants withered at a rapid pace. It was a strange sight to behold. These excreta was a very toxic liquid, and its market price was also not low. I have said it before, as an adult Dream Weaver, even my pee was precious.
It wouldn’t be false if I said I didn’t feel my heart bleeding to see such a precious liquid flowing away to the wild. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a suitable container at that time to store it. Its toxicity and acidic property would instantly melt any metal, and even the plastic bottles available in the market. Yes, plastic was also available in this world. The only thing that could store it was a reinforced glass bottle, which was very expensive.
After finishing my job, I returned to the open ground where two humans were half-buried and watched for a few minutes in amusement. Those kids really love playing with them. Moreover, the two knights’ reaction to their bullying was also hilarious. The moment I arrived, the kids all looked at me before running away in haste. Their parents already warned them about respect, and despite my small height, they knew I am more powerful than even their chief. They were just too afraid to approach me and hightailed out as soon as I emerged from the forest.
Shaking my head and wondering whether I was that scary, I quietly sat on the shade of the tree I used the previous day. Even if they were aware of my existence, since they weren’t able to see me with their own eyes, the suppression didn’t happen.
Once, twice, thrice, I started a marathon of skills on those two poor souls until I was about to run out of MP. I no longer increased my MP by depleting it again and again. That method revealed a weakness that I discovered not long ago. After hitting the number 200, my MP didn’t increase at all. Previously, I mentioned how INT affected MP. Now it seems like I have reached a bottleneck.
No matter how much I try, INT doesn’t increase an inch from 80 points. Although WIS was increasing bit by bit, it didn’t really affect much to the max MP. I was confused at first, thinking about why it didn’t increase even if I try so much. After asking about it to Urt and Logier, I drew this conclusion. Each stage of a monster had its limit.
Actually, there were two types of limits. When a monster exhausts its potential, it stops growing as fast. That’s when it approaches the soft limit. Though it could still become powerful, however, it wouldn’t be as exaggerated as it used to be. As for the hard limit, it only appears towards the end of the life-span of the monster.
The case with me just so happens to be that I approached my soft limit. INT had already stopped increasing. But that didn’t mean I wouldn’t grow strong in other aspects. Other stats like STR, AGI could also increase if I tried hard enough.
Before I could return to my torture, ahem, practice, Logier appeared with a smile on his face. It was a little weird to see him smile like that because it really looked ugly and frightening. The only time I saw him smile like that was when something had gone his way. I looked at him weirdly for a second as he came closer to me.
“You look happy. Why?” I asked out of curiosity. I wondered what could make this pig happy enough to smile like that.
“I gave up my position to a young and promising new blood. From today on, I am no longer the chief of my clan.”
Logier just had to drop a bomb at an unexpected time.

I, Mor-eldal: The Necromancer Thief
As a budding little necromancer, I soon discovered that the world of city people is complicated. When my master kicked me out of the cave, he warned me not to talk about my “dark” magic, because people here don't like the undead. I am not really an undead, I just have a skeleton hand, but it is better to be careful. Anyway, that's not my biggest worry. In the Black Dagger brotherhood, I learn a lot of things, such as illusionist magic, which turns out to be quite handy to survive in this maze of streets: in the Cat Quarter, we have thugs of all kinds that are best avoided. But we also have good people, goodhearted “gwaks”, as we say around here. Little did I know that I would soon be caught up in an infamous traffic that would entangle my life even more. With a mix of lighthearted adventure and picaresque, this story narrates the hectic life of a good-spirited street child and his companions in a medieval urban fantasy setting with some nineteenth-century influences. Updates Mondays and Fridays. This is a Creative Commons By work. It is a translation of a trilogy I wrote in Spanish between 2017 and 2018.
